Entlang der Strecke liegen nicht nur zahlreiche Grenz- und Industriemuseen, sondern viele Spuren des Faschismus sind noch heute sichtbar. Gleichzeitig imponiert das Grüne Band als wild gewachsener Rückzugs- und Wanderkorridor für bedrohte Tier- und P anzenarten. Es besteht aus 150 Naturschutzgebieten, die zusammen den größten Biotopverbund Deutschlands bilden.Deshalb schließen sich die beiden Freunde den Forderungen des BUND an:. Das Grüne Band ist nicht nur gesamthaft als nationales Naturmonument unter Schutz zu stellen.. Es verdient auch eine Aufnahme in das UNESCO-Weltnatur- und Kulturerbe.
