This edited volume fills a gap in this understudied niche of sport in Hong Kong by offering an interdisciplinary inquiry that acknowledges sport as a global force that shapes local culture, identity, and politics. As such this publication accommodates perspectives across sociology, cultural studies, anthropology, policy studies, and history to offer both a rich and complementary account of sporting culture in Hong Kong's socio-historical context. In the past, Orientalist myths told through movies and advertisements have produced an idealized image of Hong Kong as a city of hybridity, a place where "East meets West," with a futurist skyline that has inspired countless steampunk and sci-fi novels. However, the last few years have significantly changed the global perception of this Asian metropolis amidst the formation of a new geopolitical frontier. This volume is not so much a documentation of a peculiar sports system, but a timely discussion and analysis of Hong Kong as a postcolonial place in crisis mode.

In der vorliegenden Arbeit geht es um eine sprachwissenschaftliche Untersuchung des Diskursbereichs romanischer Fußballberichterstattung. Im Zentrum der diskurslinguistischen Untersuchung stehen Rivalitätskonstruktionen in medialen Darstellungen der sogenannten Fußballklassiker in Frankreich, Portugal und Spanien - unter Einschluss katalanischsprachiger Medien. Die Arbeit geht auf objektbezogener Ebene zwei leitenden Fragestellungen nach: Zum einen wird geklärt, inwiefern die Termini clássico, clásico, clàssic und classique äquivalent konzeptualisiert sind, und zum anderen wird untersucht, welche sprachlich-visuellen Mittel zur Erzeugung von Rivalitäten verwendet werden. Die Diskursanalyse erfolgt kontrastiv, d.h. dass rivalitätskonstruierende sprachliche und visuelle Strukturen zwischen den einzelnen Diskursgemeinschaften verglichen werden, um Muster zur gesteigerten Konflikterzeugung ausfindig zu machen. Damit wird nicht nur die vergleichende Diskurslinguistik für die Romanistik theoretisch etabliert, sondern auch ein Ansatz gewählt, der bildliche Darstellungsmittel im Zusammenspiel mit sprachlichen Diskursen über die Einzeltextebene hinaus vergleichbar macht. Die computerunterstützte Methodik führt induktiv zum Analyseraster iMM-card (integrative Multimodal Model for Contrastive Analysis of Romance Discourses), das über bisherige diskurslinguistische Analysemodelle hinausgeht, neben multimodalen Bezügen genuin romanistische Ansätze enthält und damit ein Instrumentarium für eine vergleichende romanistische Diskurslinguistik entwickelt.Die Arbeit ist eine leicht modifizierte Version der Habilitationsschrift, die 2022 mit dem Forschungspreis der Stiftung Südtiroler Sparkasse und dem Literaturpreis 2023 der Universität Innsbruck ausgezeichnet worden ist

Wave Optics in Infrared Spectroscopy starts where conventional books about infrared spectroscopy end. Whereas the latter are based on the Bouguer-Beer-Lambert law, the cornerstones of this book are wave optics and dispersion theory.This gap between both levels of theory is bridged to allow a seamless transition from one to the other. Based on these foundations, the reader is able to choose which level of theory is adequate for the particular problem at hand. Advanced topics like 2D correlation analysis, chemometrics and strong coupling are introduced and viewed from a wave optics perspective. Spectral mixing rules are also considered to better understand spectra of heterogeneous samples. Finally, optical anisotropy is examined to allow a better understanding of spectral features due to orientation and orientational averaging.
