Involuntary Astronauts is a collection of poems and essays written between August, 2019 and July 2020. The work deals with a set of recurring themes: the life of parenting a toddler, identity, anxiety, illness, disconnection, wonder and love.It's now been three years since Rebelle Harmony was born and I started writing poems again. This is collection number three. My goal is to continue collecting a year's worth of poems and essays every summer and keep publishing them. My son asked me, "What about the boys?" after hearing "The Future is Female." So I explained that the future is male. . . and female. Because men and women need each other and there is a difference between the two sexes. Those that scream "the future is female" may take issue with these self-evident truths. Let them. As men, you and I are strong enough to withstand the false allegations which come with defending men. We decry the very concept of what Orwell called thought crime and refuse to limit the scope of our thinking or be silenced when we express these thoughts. We are men, after all. We are strong and confident and willing to protect women and children.This is our bold response to anyone who seeks to denigrate our son and deny him opportunity by claiming the future is (only) female.
