  • - Untold Stories of the Big Sky State
    von Randi Samuelson-Brown
    27,00 €

The Bad Old Days of Montana celebrates the state¿s glorious and rowdy past. Many people born and bred here relish just how ¿bad¿ things used to be: the terrain, the inhabitants and especially the quality of whiskey. It almost goes without saying that Montana had all the characteristic wild west elements ¿ and in abundance! The chapters focus on the infamous and notorious rather than the law-abiding and civic-minded settlers. These pages, like the state, recount the tales of people who came west seeking if not their fortune, at least opportunity. It is no secret that Montana was settled by the adventurous willing to brave the harsh conditions and to prevail. Whether on the right or the wrong side of the law, all settlers and pioneers made unique contributions to the state¿s complex culture. Certainly, in the nineteenth century, Montana was not for the faint of heart.Beginning with the Lewis and Clark Expedition of 1804 as the origins of the mountain men, the book will offer a variety of strange tales, ranging from vigilanteeism to the heyday of the Copper Kings. Many such tales were influenced by too much whiskey and greed. This book is an account of the misfits, outlaws and rugged individuals who cast their mark on this most remarkable state. Populated by the native tribes before ¿discovery¿ by Lewis and Clark at the headwaters of the Missouri River, the land that would become known as Montana was traversed by mountain men, mined by gold and mineral seekers and ranched and harvested by the homesteaders. Throughout these varied waves of discovery and settlement, this book explores the less-than-savory dealings, the early attempts at law and order (which often failed or had questionable results), and the myriad of colorful characters and events that made Montana what it is today.

  • von Albert Reneer
    26,00 €

This book is about a horrific murder. No one deserves to be slaughtered like this victim was, and again, like most evildoings, it was over money. "The love of money is the root of all evil." I never thought this adage to be completely true until this murder case, and my eyes were opened. It is true. The house where this murder occurred is cursed and haunted to this day. For some reason, possibly because of my religious beliefs, I have not had any spiritual problems during and after the serving of four search warrants at this house, but several other officers and crime scene personnel did. I cannot stress the fact enough that this house is evil. I don''t know the reason why, but many others have sensed the evil in this property, especially the house, and they refuse to do any more searches with me in this house. And I have decided to never give the location of this house-ever-because I have witnessed what it has done to other people''s souls.

It was a warm September evening in 1973. Rabbit was a twenty-eight-year-old Los Angeles uniformed policeman, on duty working a black and white police car in Westchester, a district of Venice Division near the Los Angeles Airport. He had been assigned there for almost four years.Although Rabbit's assignment to this sleepy hollow town was somewhat of a forced retirement for him, it was a peaceful community much like the one he had grown up in, and he liked working there. And that was a good thing, as he had resigned himself to the fact that after five shootings and too many personnel complaints stemming from the time he spent working the streets in East Wilmington and Watts, he would almost certainly work patrol for the rest of his career. It was a quiet night. His patrol took him along the ocean front road of Dockweiler Beach, where he witnessed another beauti- ful Southern California sunset and the hope of seeing the green flash of the setting sun. It was a beautiful daily routine, very different from the adrenaline rush of the action he had once thrived on in South Central LA, but a whole lot less confrontational. All this was about to change. His police radio came on and directed him to go to the captain's office to meet the Officer in Charge of Venice Division Vice, Sergeant Doug Nelson. Dutifully, Rabbit responded per proper police radio proce- dure and acknowledged the call with his unit number, 14A56, and by the book, even broadcasting the FCC sign-off requirement of KMA-367.The course of his career was about to take him deep down the Rabbit Hole.

  • - Crime, Conspiracy and Cover-Up: A New Investigation
von Tim Tate & Brad Johnson
    23,00 €

Longlisted for the People's Book Prize 2018.At 12.16am on Wednesday, June 5, 1968, Senator Robert F. Kennedy was shot and mortally wounded in the kitchen service pantry of the Ambassador Hotel, Los Angeles. A little over 24 hours later, he was pronounced dead. A 24-year-old Palestinian immigrant, Sirhan Bishara Sirhan, was captured in the pantry with a smoking gun in his hand. Eyewitnesses had seen him step out in front of Kennedy and begin shooting with a small calibre revolver. In April 1969, Sirhan was convicted of Robert Kennedy's murder and the wounding of five others. He was sentenced to death, later commuted to life imprisonment. He has been in prison - often in solitary confinement - ever since. The Assassination of Robert F. Kennedy is the result of more than 25 years' painstaking forensic work that challenges some of the assumptions and conclusions around the murder. The authors have scrutinised more than 100,000 official documents, located previously unknown recordings, and conducted original new interviews with key figures in the case. They show that Sirhan could not have fired the fatal bullets, reveal detailed evidence of a murderous conspiracy involving organised crime, and disclose CIA documents detailing successful experiments to create a hypno-programmed political assassin. The book also unmasks the likely identity of one of the most enduring mysteries in the case - the infamous 'Girl in the Polka Dot Dress'.
