  • - A History of New York's Bonanno Mafia Family
    von Andy Petepiece
    28,00 €

The Bonanno Family is a well-researched book on the 100-plus-year history of one of New York's infamous La Cosa Nostra organizations. It begins with an outline of the first Bosses, and ends with Boss Mikey Mancuso demoting his Acting Boss and Consigliere. Some of the important events covered included the 1931 killing of Boss of Bosses Salvatore Maranzano, the formation of the Commission, and the dates of the national meetings of La Cosa Nostra. Among those was the infamous 1957 gathering of mob Bosses held at Boss Joseph Barbara's estate. Long-time leader Joseph Bonanno is profiled in this book, as are all his successors. I examine Bonanno's role in the killing of Salvatore Maranzano and Bonanno's alleged kidnapping in 1964. The book covers the Commission's expulsion of Bonanno and his son Salvatore and their many years after that historic event. There are three chapters on the long-ignored Montreal, Canada, wing of the Bonanno Family. This group eclipsed any New York Family in terms of wealth and reach. Due to their deep involvement in the drug trade, the Montreal crew operated worldwide, unlike the New York Families. Most readers of La Cosa Nostra will recognize many of the characters from its history. The book provides details on well-known hoods such as Carmine Galante, Dominick "Sonny Black" Napolitano, Joe Massino, Anthony Spero, and Vincent Basciano. American Mafia followers will get to know Canadian Mafia powers like Nicolo Rizzuto, Vito Rizzuto, Vic Cotroni, Paulo Violi and powerful Associates like Raynald Desjardins.

On the other, his obsession: the government man trying to apply environmental laws. The brutal killing of Glen Turner splits open the story of our place on this land. David Owen Brooks, one of the mass murderers of twenty-eight or more young boys, died of COVID-19 on May 28, 2020, in a Texas prison. At the time I wrote this book, I did not know he died. The book was written by way of my memories of events that happened in my life and up to the time I met David Brooks. Just two or three days before Brooks turned himself into the Houston Police Station, he tried to lure me to a party in Pasadena, Texas, by telling me there would be lots of girls and drugs. If I would have accepted Brooks's offer, I would have died a terrible death, and my daughter would have never been born.

This is the sweet and bitter story of the Tungsten Mine. The story takes in the amazing life of Frank Arnold, the long-time caretaker who made the Tungsten Mine his home for twenty years. He wandered the vast eastern Cascades in what we now call the "Pasayten Wilderness" until his untimely death in the winter of 1934-35, while out scouting his trap lines. The mystery surrounding Frank''s death, how he was found by a mental patient and the stories that boiled out of the strange event are enough to move a statue of stone.Frank Arnold himself was unique, a riddle, and "not your average human being," as one man who knew him said. A man extremely intelligent and in every way a curiosity. Fortunately, there are those from whom one can gather the fading shadow of this little-big man and the mystery of his sad death at the mouth of Horseshoe Creek. The legend of Frank Arnold and the Tungsten Mine are one, and so should the story be of these two intriguing tales that were so interwoven into the history of the high mountain land called the Pasayten, a French word meaning "land of Satan:'' The area is as beautiful as an angel, but can be cruel as its namesake!History is good and bad, sad and happy, and this story is both happy and sad. The eventual fate of the Tungsten Mine rests no longer with the miners but in the hands of a government organization known as the Forest Service, which has had a track record of destruction for old historical cabins. And how Frank died is still open to the imagination of the reader... But...This is the story of the Tungsten Mine, written for the most part in the late 1980''s.
