We live in a pop age gone loco for retro and crazy for commemoration. But what happens when we run out of past? Are we heading toward a sort of cultural-ecological catastrophe, where the archival stream of pop history has been exhausted? Simon Reynolds, one of the finest music writers of his generation, argues that we have indeed reached a tipping point and that although earlier eras had their own obsessions with antiquity - the Renaissance with its admiration for Roman and Greek classicism, the Gothic movement's invocations of medievalism - never has there been a society so obsessed with the cultural artifacts of its own immediate past. Although Stanley Kubrick adapted novels and short stories, his films deviate in notable ways from the source material. In particular, since 2001: A Space Odyssey (1968), his films seem to definitively exploit all cinematic techniques, embodying a compelling visual and aural experience. But, as author Elisa Pezzotta contends, it is for these reasons that his cinema becomes the supreme embodiment of the sublime, fruitful encounter between the two arts and, simultaneously, of their independence. Stanley Kubrick's last six adaptations-2001: A Space Odyssey, A Clockwork Orange (1971), Barry Lyndon (1975), The Shining (1980), Full Metal Jacket (1987), and Eyes Wide Shut (1999)-are characterized by certain structural and stylistic patterns. These features help to draw conclusions about the role of Kubrick in the history of cinema, about his role as an adapter, and, more generally, about the art of cinematic adaptations. The structural and stylistic patterns that characterize Kubrick adaptations seem to criticize scientific reasoning, causality, and traditional semantics. In the history of cinema, Kubrick can be considered a modernist auteur. In particular, he can be regarded as an heir of the modernist avant-garde of the 1920s. However, author Elisa Pezzotta concludes that, unlike his predecessors, Kubrick creates a cinema not only centered on the ontology of the medium, but on the staging of sublime, new experiences.

Gedser Kirke, ikke blot Danmarks, men også Skandinaviens sydligste kirke blev indviet Palmesøndag 1915 og bliver således snart 100 år. Denne milepæl skal naturligvis markeres på behørig vis og derfor har menighedsrådet besluttet at udgive dette festskrift. Kirken står næsten som dengang, den blev indviet, men det ydre er dog blevet totalt renoveret i 2014. Taget er udskiftet og murværket har gennemgået en meget nødvendig restaurering og opretning, da det var meget medtaget som følge af den udsatte beliggenhed tæt ved Østersøen. Vi er meget tilfredse med resultatet og vil gerne takke Lolland-Falsters Stift, Entreprenørfirmaet Troels Jørgensen, og Etn Arkitekter for et godt og konstruktivt samarbejde under hele forløbet. Desuden er det gamle Frobenius-orgel udskiftet med et nyt, der er bygget af orgelbyggerfirmaet P.G. Andersen og Bruhn. Orglet giver også fremover muligheder for koncerter, da det er langt mere avanceret end det gamle, der var helt nedslidt. Med dette skrift vil vi i tekst og billeder give et indtryk af de 100 år, der er gået og ikke mindst sætte fokus på renoveringen og det nye orgel.
