There are photography books on the market today that consist of pictures and some pictures may include who is in the picture and the location of the picture. This book goes beyond just pictures because I include stories (personal thoughts) to some pictures to make them more interesting. There is a saying that goes: "e;Pictures tell a story."e; Well, there are some stories that are as interesting as the picture itself. There are three things that make this photography book different from others in the market:- There is a poem I wrote about September 11, 2001. In 1977, Dave Sim (b. 1956) began to self-publish Cerebus, one of the earliest and most significant independent comics, which ran for 300 issues and ended, as Sim had planned from early on, in 2004. Over the run of the comic, Sim used it as a springboard to explore not only the potential of the comics medium but also many of the core assumptions of Western society. Through it he analyzed politics, the dynamics of love, religion, and, most controversially, the influence of feminism-which Sim believes has had a negative impact on society. Moreover, Sim inserted himself squarely into the comic as Cerebus's creator, thereby inviting criticism not only of the creation, but also of the creator. What few interviews Sim gave often pushed the limits of what an interview might be in much the same way that Cerebus pushed the limits of what a comic might be. In interviews Sim is generous, expansive, provocative, and sometimes even antagonistic. Regardless of mood, he is always insightful and fascinating. His discursive style is not conducive to the sound bite or to easy summary. Many of these interviews have been out of print for years. And, while the interviews range from very general, career-spanning explorations of his complex work and ideas, to tightly focused discussions on specific details of Cerebus, all the interviews contained herein are engaging and revealing.

It was a short-lived march, as an ultranationalist mob quickly descended on the participants, chanting homophobic slurs and injuring dozens. For years afterward, fear of violence prevented further marches, and when, in October 2010, the next pride march finally went ahead, it again devolved into violence as anti-gay rioters, firing shots and hurling petrol bombs, fought the police. It was only in 2014 that a pride march was held uninterrupted, albeit under heavy police protection. In Lives in Transition, photographer Slobodan Randjelovic captures the struggles and successes of twenty LGBTQ people living throughout Serbia-a conservative, religious country where, despite semi-progressive LGBTQ protection laws, homophobia fueled by religious authorities and right-wing political parties remains deeply entrenched. Knapp zwei Jahrzehnte hat der Hamburger Fotograf Walter Lüden (1914-1996) »seine« Stadt mit der Kamera porträtiert, von 1947 bis Mitte der 1960er Jahre. Seine qualitätvollen und vielfältigen Aufnahmen erschienen in Zeitschriften und vielen Hamburg-Büchern. Auch in Blankenese, wo er mehrere Jahre wohnte, war Lüden häufig mit seiner Leica oder der Hasselblad unterwegs. Erstmals erscheinen jetzt seine Aufnahmen von Hamburgs schönster Tochter an der Elbe ausgewählt und gesammelt in einem Buch. Sie zeigen einen Stadtteil, der durch den Krieg kaum an Attraktion verloren hatte und für die Hamburgerinnen und Hamburger schnell wieder zum nahen und erreichbaren Sehnsuchtsort wurde. Lüden fing das Licht Blankeneses ein: auf den Uferwegen, im und über dem Treppenviertel, in den Parks und Gärten des Stadtteils. Zwischen den bekannten Blicken auf den Süllberg und über den Süllberg finden sich viele Alltagsszenen, von Kindern zwischen den verschachtelten Häusern, von Läden, von Parks, in denen die Stadt weit weg ist, vom Strand, wo die elbwärts fahrenden Dampfer das Fernweh schüren - schon immer war Hamburg nirgendwo mehr Süden als in Blankenese.

Die selektive Wahrnehmung solcher Momente liegt dabei vornämlich in ihrer ruhend-besinnlichen Wirkung begründet. Der Versuch, meinen >Models< eine Sprache zu verleihen, mit der sie ihre Botschaft artikulieren können, besteht in dem Beiwerk lyrischer Interpretationen. Der »Auftrag Speer«, ein Bestand von mehr als 1700 großformatigen Glasnegativen im Messbildarchiv des Brandenburgischen Landesamtes für Denkmalpflege und Archäologischen Landesmuseums, widmet sich den megalomanen Planungen des Generalbauinspektors Albert Speer und anderer führender Architekten in der Zeit des Nationalsozialismus. Die Aufnahmen, die als Großauftrag Speers an die Staatliche Bildstelle Berlin entstanden sind, dokumentieren zahllose Gebäude, Modelle, zugehörige Pläne und Zeichnungen. Jahrzehntelang waren all diese Aufnahmen für die Einsichtnahme gesperrt.Die hochauflösenden Scans der Glasplatten zeigen unerwartete Details diesseits und jenseits vorbestimmter Bildausschnitte und belegen die Aufnahme- und Retuschetechniken der Bildstelle. Mit der hiermit vorgelegten Publikation eröffnen sich überraschende Forschungsperspektiven auf bislang unbekannte Teilbestände.

Jahrhunderts ist das große Thema der City Diaries von Peter Bialobrzeski. In dem bisher 19 Bände umfassenden Projekt untersucht er seit 2013, ob der Entwurf des Bildes einer Stadt, gespeist aus Vorurteilen, Vorgefundenem und medial Vermitteltem in ein spezifisches Bild überführt werden kann. Ob Wuhan oder Wolfsburg - ihn interessieren die von der Globalisierung zunehmend kaschierten kulturellen Unterschiede, die er mittels einer scheinbar objektivierenden Bildsprachesichtbar macht. Dabei schlagen sich auch aktuelle politische und soziale Entwicklungen in Bialobrzeskis Bildern und Tagebucheinträgen nieder. Format und Umfang aller Titel sind identisch. Diese Systematik erlaubt einen vergleichenden Blick auf verschiedenste urbane Situationen. Weitere Bände erscheinen in loser Reihenfolge.About the City DiariesThe city at the beginning of the 21st century is the major theme of Peter Bialobrzeski's City Diaries. In the project, started in 2013 and so far comprising of 19 volumes, he has been investigating whether the pre-conception of a city, a product of prejudices, personal observations and what is conveyed by the media, can be transformed into a specific image. Whether Wuhan or Wolfsburg - Bialobrzeski is interested in the cultural differences increasingly concealed by globalization, which he makes visible by means of a seemingly objectifying aesthetic. Current political and social developments are also reflected in Bialobrzeski's images and diary entries. The format and page count of all titles are identical. This systematic approach allows for a comparative view of a wide array of different urban situations. Further volumes will be published intermittently.

Die in New York lebende deutsche FotografinNina Welch-Kling gehört zu den bekannten Namen der weiblichen Street Photography. In ihrem neuesten Werk "Duologues" ergänzt sie dieses Genre um einen neuen künstlerischen Aspekt: Indem sie jeweils zwei Fotografien zu einem festen Diptychon vereint, erschafft sie einen visuellen Dialog zwischen zwei Bildern,der beim Betrachten neue Dimensionen eröffnet. In ihren "Spin Club Stories" (Spinneklump-Geschichten) erkundet Astrid Reischwitz persönliche und kulturelle Erinnerungen, die von ihrer Kindheit in einem Bauerndorf in Norddeutschland geprägt sind. Sie verwendet Erinnerungsstücke aus dem Familienleben, alte Fotos und bestickte Stoffe aus dem Dorf, um eine Welt aus Erinnerung, Identität und Heimat zu bauen. Die nun in Boston lebende Künstlerin lässt sich von der alten Tradition der Spinngruppen in ihrem Dorf inspirieren, bei denen sich Frauen trafen, um Wolle zu spinnen und Handarbeiten anzufertigen - und um bei der Arbeit Geschichten auszutauschen. Sie verwandelt diese Tradition des Geschichtenerzählens in eine visuelle Reise. Ihre eigenen Stickmuster spiegeln Elemente der Textilien ihrer Vorfahren wider und betonen das Fragmentarische von Erinnerungen.
