Franz Kafka, der »rätselhafte« Autor, hat die meiste Zeit seines Lebens bei seiner Familie gewohnt. Die Bindung war stärker, als er es sich und uns einzureden versuchte. Im »großen Lärm« der Familie entstanden seine Texte. Seine Beziehung zu den Schwestern, besonders zu Ottla, war sehr eng, als besorgter Onkel machte er sich Gedanken über die richtige Erziehung seines Neffen und seiner Nichten. Die von den Nachkommen der Schwestern aufbewahrten Fotos dokumentieren nicht nur das Familienleben, sondern erzählen auch vom sozialen Aufstieg einer jüdischen Familie aus einfachen ländlichen Verhältnissen zum Prager Bürgertum. War der Großvater noch Dorfschächter in Wossek, wurde der Vater vom Hausierer zum angesehenen Kaufmann mit Geschäft in bester Lage und der Sohn zum promovierten und weltläufigen Juristen, der als Autor in der intellektuellen Gesellschaft der Moldaustadt verkehrte.

The Videography of Darcy Lange is a critical monograph of a pivotal figure in early analogue video. Trained as a sculptor at the Royal College of Art, Lange developed a socially engaged video practice with remarkable studies of people at work in industrial, farming, and teaching contexts that drew from conceptual art, social documentary and structuralist filmmaking. Lange saw in portable video a democratic tool for communication and social transformation, continuing the legacy of the revolutionary avant-garde projects that merged art with social life and turned audiences into producers. This book follows Lange's trajectory from his early observational studies to the crisis of representation and socially engaged video and activism, as it is shaped by, and resists, the artistic, cultural and political preoccupations of the 1970s and 1980s. It strikes a balance between being a monographic account providing a close analysis of Lange's oeuvre and drawing from unpublished archival materials¿a sort of catalogue raisonné¿whilst maintaining a breadth with theoretical discourses around the themes of labour and class, education, and indigenous struggles central to his work. The book's frameworks of Conceptual Art, structuralist and ethnographic film theory, social documentary and the critique of representation, video as social practice and the notion of 'feedback', participatory socially engaged art and postcolonial and indigenous theory,¿expand our understanding of video outside the predominant structuralist tendencies. Lange's transnational and nomadic career introduces notions of alterity and challenges nationalistic accounts that excluded him in the past.

As an artist myself, I have always observed art as a manifestation of human culture. FRONTIERS: WILD, SEMI-WILD, HUMAN.... A photographic Novel, is a book of photographs I have taken or worked on over a period of 6 years from 2012 to 2017. I love the concept of writing a novel through photography and that's why I called this book of photographs a photographic novel, for there is a strong narrative dimension in these photographs that creates visual literature. And this narrative link, for a good part, points to the content in the images. They are three countries where I took these photos from; Mozambique, Zimbabwe and South Africa, three neighbours who share borders, languages, cultures, fauna, flora, etc, joined by a bond as old as creation, itself. I decided to work from the wild, to the semi wild, to human, exploring frontiers in these worlds, juxtaposing these worlds, one against the other or all three together in a photo, sometimes obsessively focusing on a single spot, repetitively creating different story strands from that one place, and then combine photography with other visual art medias like painting and drawing thus creating entirely different artworks. It is the essence of my work, to operate at the limit between natural and human landscapes, reality and fiction, nature and humanity, by bestowing an actual dimension to the utopian.
