In den anschließenden Abschnitten stehen aktuelle Gedanken und Ansichten im Wechsel zu selbst erstellten Fotografien und Collagen im Vordergrund. 32 farbige Bilder und Collagen stellen einen Querschnitt der Arbeiten der letzten Jahre dar. Sie stehen im Wechsel zu Heimatgedichten bekannter Autoren und eigenen Fotografien.

This book explores hybrid memoirs, combining text and images, authored by photographers. It contextualizes this sub-category of life writing from a historical perspective within the overall context of life writing, before taking a structural and cognitive approach to the text/image relationship. While autobiographers use photographs primarily for their illustrative or referential function, photographers have a much more complex interaction with pictures in their autobiographical accounts. This book explores how the visual aspect of a memoir may drastically alter the reader¿s response to the work, but also how, in other cases, the visual parts seem disconnected from the text or underused.

This richly illustrated catalogue celebrates Carrie Mae Weems, the 2023 Hasselblad Award winner by highlighting a number of prominent works, including Family Pictures and Stories (1978-84), Kitchen Table Series (1990), and From Here I Saw What Happened and I Cried (1995-96). With an intersectional approach to history and politics, Weems digs deep into photography's multiple roles in the representation of race, gender, and class. And even as her works scrutinise the mechanisms of stereotyping imagery, her artistic practice insists on visual complexity, as Louise Wolthers and Dragana Vujanovic Östlind show in their lengthy introduction. In ihrer Auseinandersetzung mit Beuys wechselt Elina Brotherus die Perspektiven und spielt mit dem weiblichen Blick auf den ikonischen deutschen Künstler.Die bekannte finnische Foto- und Videokünstlerin Elina Brotherus (*1972) beschäftigt sich mit ikonischen Motiven der Kunstgeschichte sowie mit der Neuinterpretation von Fluxus-Aktionen und Event Scores, den Aufzeichnungen von Performances. Es entstehen neue Fotografien und Videoinstallationen fiktiven Charakters an von Beuys besuchten Orten sowie neue Arbeiten mit René Block, die im vorliegenden Buch und in der gleichnamigen Ausstellung erstmals gezeigt werden.

Aenne-Biermann-Preis mit einer Auszeichnung bedacht.Die Initialzündung zu ihrer eindrucksvollen fotografischen (Selbst-)Reflexion "C50.9 G"* beschreibt Annette Rausch mit nüchterner Präzision, fast schon wie ein wissenschaftliches Experiment.Das wäre vielleicht nicht weiter bemerkenswert, gäbe es da unterschwellig nicht das beklemmende Gefühl, das der Befund, um den es hier geht, bei Betroffenen und Betrachter*innen gleichermaßen auszulösen vermag:"Mein Leben erfuhr durch die Diagnose Brustkrebs 2016 einen radikalen Wandel. Mein Alltag und mein (Über-)Leben wurde dominiert von 16 Chemotherapien, 2 Operationen und 28 Bestrahlungen."Rauschs Herangehensweise ist auch insofern ungewöhnlich, da (Foto-)Bücher zum Thema Krebs formal betrachtet meist Autoporträts sind, bei dem die Betroffenen klar und erkennbar im Fokus stehen. Rausch verweigert sich jedoch dieser klassischen "Tradition" in der öffentlichen Darstellung und zeigt (bis auf einmal) lediglich betroffene Körperpartien.Kunst als pars pro toto. Chronologisch geordnet, mal einzeln oder als Tableau. In der Gestaltung lässt die Fotografin bewusst "Leerstellen - für eigene Gefühle, Assoziationen und Gedanken."Rausch nutzt dazu eine Ästhetik, die in ihren bildfüllenden Ausschnitten an die Körper-Polaroids der Schweizer Bildhauerin und Fotografin Hannah Villiger erinnert. Villiger hatte sich bereits in den 80er Jahren intensiv mit der Betrachtung des eigenen Körpers auseinandergesetzt.Die Bildserie "C50.9 G" schreibt damit das Sujet "Krankheit im Bild" fort, das von Géricault van Gogh, Munch oder Monet bis hin zur Art brut immer wieder neu interpretiert worden ist. Und zwar mit einem Konzept, das auf Versachlichung des Behandlungsprozesses setzt, ohne explizit Dokumentation sein zu wollen."C50.9 G" von Annette Rausch lässt sich aber auch als eine Art Tagebuch lesen, in dem wir die Bedeutung der Bilder für uns in letzter Konsequenz selbst entschlüsseln müssen.Es sind Bilder des Betroffenseins, die trotz oder vielleicht gerade wegen ihrer nüchternen Sachlichkeit, immer wieder Betroffenheit auslösen.Ein Buch, das unter die Haut geht.
