This book explores hybrid memoirs, combining text and images, authored by photographers. It contextualizes this sub-category of life writing from a historical perspective within the overall context of life writing, before taking a structural and cognitive approach to the text/image relationship. While autobiographers use photographs primarily for their illustrative or referential function, photographers have a much more complex interaction with pictures in their autobiographical accounts. This book explores how the visual aspect of a memoir may drastically alter the reader¿s response to the work, but also how, in other cases, the visual parts seem disconnected from the text or underused.

In der Gestaltung lässt die Fotografin bewusst "Leerstellen - für eigene Gefühle, Assoziationen und Gedanken."Rausch nutzt dazu eine Ästhetik, die in ihren bildfüllenden Ausschnitten an die Körper-Polaroids der Schweizer Bildhauerin und Fotografin Hannah Villiger erinnert. Villiger hatte sich bereits in den 80er Jahren intensiv mit der Betrachtung des eigenen Körpers auseinandergesetzt.Die Bildserie "C50.9 G" schreibt damit das Sujet "Krankheit im Bild" fort, das von Géricault van Gogh, Munch oder Monet bis hin zur Art brut immer wieder neu interpretiert worden ist. Und zwar mit einem Konzept, das auf Versachlichung des Behandlungsprozesses setzt, ohne explizit Dokumentation sein zu wollen."C50.9 G" von Annette Rausch lässt sich aber auch als eine Art Tagebuch lesen, in dem wir die Bedeutung der Bilder für uns in letzter Konsequenz selbst entschlüsseln müssen.Es sind Bilder des Betroffenseins, die trotz oder vielleicht gerade wegen ihrer nüchternen Sachlichkeit, immer wieder Betroffenheit auslösen.Ein Buch, das unter die Haut geht.
