The book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the First International Conference on Distributed Computing in Sensor Systems, DCOSS 2005, held in Marina del Rey, California, USA in June/July 2005.The 26 revised full papers presented were carefully reviewed and selected from 85 submissions; also included are the abstracts of 3 invited talks, 2 short papers, 9 invited poster abstracts, and 10 contributed abstracts.The papers address all current aspects of distributed computing issues in large-scale networked sensor systems, including systematic design techniques and tools, algorithms, and applications.

The Asian Internet Engineering Conference (AINTEC) brings together researchers and engineers interested in practical and theoretical problems in Internet technologies. The conference aims at addressing issues pertinent to the Asian region with vast diversities of socio-economic and networking conditions while inviting high-quality and recent research results from the global inter- tional research community. The ?rst event was jointly organized by the Internet Education and Research Laboratory of the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) and the WIDE Project with support from the APAN-TH community. In response to the recent natural disaster in Asia, AINTEC 2005 solicited papers, among other things, on the survival of the Internet in order to provide alternative means of communication in emergency and chaotic situations. The main topics include: Mobile IP Mobile Ad Hoc and Emergency Networks Multimedia or Multi-Services IP-Based Networks Peer-to-Peer Measurement and Performance Analysis Internet over Satellite Communications There were 52 submissions to the Technical Program,and we selected the 18 papers presented in these proceedings. In addition, we have three invited papers and one invited position paper by leading experts in the ?eld. Finally, we would like to acknowledge the conference General Chair, K- chana Kanchanasut of AIT, and the Local Organizers team from AIT, namely, Pensri Arunwatanamongkol, Withmone Tin Latt and Yasuo Tsuchimoto, for organizing and arranging this conference. We are also grateful to the French Ministry of Foreign A?airs through its French Regional Cooperation and the ICT Asia project (STIC-ASIE) for providing travel support.

This book constitutes the refereed post-proceedings of the second international joint workshops on Wireless and Mobility and on New Trends in Network Architectures and Services organized by the European Network of Excellence on Next Generation Internet, EURO-NGI 2005. The 19 revised full research papers presented together with 1 invited talk are organized in topical sections on wireless solutions, QoS support in next generation networks, and peer to peer architectures and algorithms.

This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the 18th IFIP TC 6/WG 6.1 International Conference on Testing Communicating Systems, TestCom 2006. The 23 revised full papers presented were carefully reviewed and selected from initially 48 submissions. The papers address all current issues in testing communicating systems, ranging from classical telecommunication issues to general software testing.

This volume of the Lecture Notes in Computer Science series publishes the set of papers accepted for the ICQT 2006 workshop, i.e., the 5th International Workshop on Internet Charging and QoS Technology (ICQT), which was collocated with ACM SIGMETRICS. These events took place in St. Malo, France and were hosted by the IUT (Institut Universitaire Technologique) of St. Malo. QoS-guaranteed services enable a huge variety of prosperous business models, and the need for viable models and pricing schemes is urgent. The resulting combination of technical and economic perspectives drives many relevant research topics for application developers, business architects, network providers, service providers, and customers. Especially the identification of novel service charging solutions, the investigation and evaluation of their technical feasibility, and the consolidation of technical and economic mechanisms for enabling a fast, guaranteed, and efficient charging of services is of fundamental importance for the future evolution of the Internet, and as such the central focus of the international ICQT workshop series. This year's ICQT constituted the 5th vivid workshop on Internet economics and charging technology, which initially took place in 2001 in Vienna, Austria within the framework of the Annual Meeting of the German Society for Computer Science (GI) and the Austrian Computer Society, and which was collocated in 2002 with the QofIS 2002 workshop in Zurich, Switzerland, in 2003 with the NGC 2003 workshop in Munich, Germany, and in 2004 again with QofIS 2004 in Barcelona, Spain.

The 5th International Conference on Adhoc, Mobile and Wireless Networks (Adhoc-Now 2006) was held during August 17-19, 2006, in Ottawa, Canada. The ?rst four conferences in this series were held in Toronto (2002), Montreal (2003), Vancouver (2004) and Cancun (2005), respectively. The purpose of this conference is to provide a forum for researchers from academia/industry and practitioners to meet and exchange ideas regarding recent developments in the areas of ad hoc wireless networks. We received more than 170 papers for the conference submitted by authors from the following 25 countries: Australia, Bangladesh, Brazil, Canada, China, France, Germany, Greece, India, Iran, Ireland, Italy, Korea, Malaysia, Mexico, Nepal, Norway,Poland, Spain, Taiwan, The Netherlands, Turkey, UK, USA and Venezuela. Each paper was assignedto three members of the Technical Program Committee (TPC). Since each TPC member was responsible for generating - views for six to nine papers, we encouraged TPC members to delegate some reviews to other quali?ed reviewers. The names of all the TPC members and the additional reviewers appear elsewhere in this volume. Based on the reviews, we decided to accept 25 submissions as regular papers and 10 as short papers. Regular papers were given 25 minutes for presentation while short papers were given 15 minutes. All of the accepted papers appear in this volume. We are indebted to the TPC and the other reviewers for their detailed and timely reviews which enabled us to put together an excellent technical program.

This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the IFIP-TC6 11th International Conference on Personal Wireless Communications, PWC 2006. The book presents 25 revised full papers and 13 revised short papers, carefully reviewed and selected from 100 submissions. The papers are organized in topical sections on mobile and wireless networking, QoS, ad-hoc, security, wireless LAN, cross-layer design, wireless sensor networks, physical layer, and mobile and wireless applications.

The autonomic communication paradigm has been defined mainly through the Autonomic Communications Forum (ACF) and particularly as follows: Autonomic communication is centered on selfware - an innovative approach to perform known and emerging tasks of a network control plane, both end-to-end and middle box communication-based. Selfware assures the capacity to evolve; however, it requires generic network instrumentation. Selfware principles and technologies borrow largely from well-established research on distributed systems, fault tolerance among others, from emerging research on non-conventional networking (multihop ad hoc, sensor, peer-to-peer, group communication, etc. ), and from similar initiatives, such as Autonomic Computing of IBM, Cognitive Network of DARPA, Harmonious Computing of Hitachi, Resonant Networking of NTT, etc. A visionary network would be able to (a) configure and re-configure itself, (b) identify its operational state and take actions to drive itself to a desired stable state and finally (c) organize the allocation and distribution of its resources. To build such a network, it is necessary to go beyond the improvement of techniques and algorithms by using a new concept, the knowledge plane. The knowledge plane is able to collect information available in the network to provide other elements of the network with services and advice and make the network perform what it is supposed to. There are many objectives to the configuration and reconfiguration of the network, from the optimization of resources to the use of best available techniques in order to offer the most appropriate service, best adapted to the t- minal capabilities.

th This volume presents the proceedings of the 6 IEEE International Workshop on IP Operations and Management (IPOM 2006), which was held as part of Manweek 2006 rd th in Dublin, Ireland from October 23 to 25 , 2006. In line with its reputation as one ofthe pre-eminent venues for the discussion and debate of advances of management of IP networks and services, the 2006 iteration of IPOM brought together an international audience of researchers and practitioners from both industry and academia. The overall theme of Manweek 2006 was "e;Autonomic Component and System Management"e;,with IPOM taking this to be the application of autonomic principles to the IP operations, administration, maintenance and provisioning (OAM&P) domain. IPOM 2006 is more relevant than ever to the emerging communications infrastr- ture that is increasingly focused on "e;convergence"e; of networks and services. Although arguably over-hyped, there is a fundamental truth to this convergence story, and this is based on the fact that the TCP/IP protocol suite (IPv4 and IPv6) has become the common denominator for a plethora of such converged services. One good example in the period between IPOM 2005 and IPOM 2006 has been the large scale deployment of consumer VoIP, linked to the success of Skype and alternatives including SIP-based approaches. In many countries VoIP is driving broadband deployment for SMEs where real costs savings can be accrued, especially for companies with remote staff in the ?eld.

Coverage focuses on research and practical applications of network measurement and analysis techniques, detailing interdomain routing, P2P, wireless 802.11, wireless 3G/CDMA/Bluetooth, infrastructure and services, traffic, and measurement principles.

The optical networking field is seen to be rapidly emerging with a strong and s- tained technological and business growth. Research has led to massive development and deployment in the optical networking space leading to significant advancements in high speed network core and access networks. th The 11 International Conference on Optical Network Design and Modeling brought together scientists and researchers to meet and exchange ideas and recent work in this emerging area of networking. The conference was sponsored by IFIP and supported by the e-Photon/ONe and COST 291 projects. The conference proceedings have been published by Springer and are also available through the Springer digital library. The conference program f- tured 14 invited presentations and 41 contributed papers selected from over 90 s- missions. A series of sessions focusing on recent developments in optical networking and the related technology issues constituted the main conference program. The international workshop "e;Optical network perspectives vs. optical technologies th reality"e; was collocated with ONDM 2007 and took place on May 29 . It was org- ized by the EU COST 291 action. The objective of the workshop was to focus on cross layer issues and address various challenges with respect to the implementation of optical networking concepts based on available optical technology capabilities.

Globally, major network operators have incorporated network convergence into their strategy to grow service revenues and reduce capital and operating costs. Conv- gence occurs in applications (integrated messaging, voice over IP), in network control (portable numbers, SIP, mobile IP), in the transport layer, as well as in the access network. This convergence of networks means that various types of traffic flows, which have been carried by separate specialized networks, now share the resources of a single core IP-based network. In the access, the trends are towards fixed/wireless convergence as well as convergence of various wireless access technologies. Network convergence will be successful only if the quality of the individual s- vices is maintained in the new network environment without undue increased costs. The quality of service delivery is critically dependent on how network performance and availability, as experienced by the traffic flows, are managed. Managing traffic performance is a critical enabler for success. Reaching the desired performance levels requires adapting processes such as network planning, resource engineering, and network monitoring to the converged network milieu.

You hold in your hands the proceedings of ESAS 2007, the Fourth European Workshop on Security and Privacy in Ad hoc and Sensor Networks. The wo- nd rd shop took place in Cambridge, UK, on the 2 and 3 of July 2007. The workshop was European in name and location but it was de?nitely transatlantic in scope. We had a program chair from Europe and one from the USA, and membership of our program committee was almost evenly split - tween those two regions. When looking at participation, the workshop was even more global than that: the submitted papers came from 25 countries in 6 con- nents. We received 87 submissions. After quick-rejecting 5 papers deemed to be out of scope, the remaining 82 papers were each reviewed by at least three PC members. The two program chairs, who did not submit any works, had sole authoritytodecidewhichpaperstoacceptandreject,basedonlyonthedirective that quality had to be the primary criterion, in order to form a proceedings volume of high international relevance. The number of papers to be accepted was not set in advance: it was selected a posteriori so as to include only solid, innovative and insightful papers. The resulting acceptance rate of about 20%, very strict for a workshop, is a testimonial of how selective we chose to be in accepting only high quality papers.
