    - Volume II: Nonequilibrium Phenomena
von Jr. Grandy & Walter T.
    140,00 - 141,00 €

In this volume we continue the logical development of the work begun in Volume I, and the equilibrium theory now becomes a very special case of the exposition presented here.

    von Kobzarev & Y.I. Manin
    141,00 €

What is more, the subject "elementary particles" as dealt with in the 3 6 dialogue stretches over (2-3) 10 years of historical time and a space of 10 +/-1 pages of scientific literature. Therefore the fact that Math and Phys talk about the history of element ary particles is not an attempt to present the scientific history of this realm of physics.

  • - A New Approach to the Statistical Theory of Open Systems
    von Yu.L. Klimontovich
    208,00 €

As the laminar and the turbulent flows play an important role in the processes of evolution in the open systems, and in particular, in the processes of self-organization, the need arises for assessing the relative degree of order of laminar and turbulent motions, and also for comparing the degree of order of various turbulent motions.

In both the system under consideration is viewed as part of a larger system, assumed to be isolated in a reasonable approximation. They are differentiated mainly by the way in which the state Hilbert space of the open system is related to that of the isolated system - either by orthogonal sum or by tensor product.

    - Undulative Electrodynamical Systems, Volume 2
    von V. Kulish
    96,00 €

The first aspects concern the fundamental nature and the basic c- cepts and ideas of a new hierarchical approach to studying hierarchical dynamic systems. A set of the hierarchical asymptotic analytical- numerical methods is given as an evidence of the practical effectiveness of the proposed version of hierarchical theory.

Presents quantum logic in relation to von Neumann algebra theory. This book reconstructs and reevaluates the Birkhoff-von Neumann concept of quantum logic. It also covers recent results such as the violation of Bell's inequality in relativistic quantum field theory and the logical independence of von Neumann lattices.

Devoted to the problem of the geometrizing of Lagrangians which depend on higher-order accelerations, this volume presents a construction of the geometry of the total space of the bundle of the accelerations of order k>=1. It is suitable for scientists whose work involves differential geometry and mechanics of particles and systems.

    - A Festschrift Celebrating Edward Teller's 80th Birthday

    186,00 €

Writing even in overview of more than a half-century of professional life of a giant of twentieth century science and technology such as Edward Teller is a daunting task. We ask in advance the reader's pardon for passing over quickly or omitting entirely aspects of Teller's life and work which may seem of major significance but which we, due to differences of perspective or knowledge, speak too little or not at all. We refer those interested in greater depth to the excellent biography by Stanley Blumberg and Gwen Owens, The Life and Times of Edward Teller, and we have (with his permission) printed Professor Eugene Wigner's An Appreciation On the 60th Birthday of Edward Teller immediately after this foreword, so that the reader may consider the perspective of one of Teller's most illustrious contemporaries more than two decades ago. Edward Teller was born in Budapest, Hungary on January 15,1908. While his childhood was spent in the twilight of the Victorian age and its abrupt conclusion in the Great War and his youth in its especially turbulent after math in central Europe, he doesn't bear visible scars from it.

    - The Role of Energy in Cosmology and Relativity
    von R. Prokhovnik
    94,00 - 100,00 €

The tremendous progress in astronomical observations over the past sixty years has revealed a vast structured universe whose fundamental parti cles are galaxies, and clusters thereof. He further demonstrated that matter exists in two interchangeable forms - a mass form and an energy form - which interact closely at all levels.

    - Invited Papers on the Foundations of Microphysics

    186,00 €

Due to its extraordinary predictive power and the great generality of its mathematical structure, quantum theory is able, at least in principle, to describe all the microscopic and macroscopic properties of the physical world, from the subatomic to the cosmological level. Nevertheless, ever since the Copen hagen and Gottingen schools in 1927 gave it the definitive formu lation, now commonly known as the orthodox interpretation, the theory has suffered from very serious logical and epistemologi cal problems. These shortcomings were immediately pointed out by some of the principal founders themselves of quantum theory, to wit, Planck, Einstein, Ehrenfest, Schrodinger, and de Broglie, and by the philosopher Karl Popper, who assumed a position of radical criticism with regard to the standard formulation of the theory. The aim of the participants in the workshop on Open Questions in Quantum Physics, which was held in Bari (Italy), in the Department of Physics of the University, during May 1983 and whose Proceedings are collected in the present volume, accord ingly was to discuss the formal, the physical and the epistemo logical difficulties of quantum theory in the light of recent crucial developments and to propose some possible resolutions of three basic conceptual dilemmas, which are posed respectively ~: (a) the physical developments of the Einstein-Podolsky-Rosen argument and Bell's theorem, i. e.
