This book constitutes the refereed post-conference proceedings of the Second IFIP International Cross-Domain Conference on Internet of Things, IFIPIoT 2019, held in Tampa, USA, in October/ November 2019. The 11 full papers presented were carefully reviewed and selected from 22 submissions.

Proceedings volume contains carefully selected papers presented during the 17th IFIP Conference on System Modelling and Optimization. Optimization theory and practice, optimal control, system modelling, stochastic optimization, and technical and non-technical applications of the existing theory are among areas mostly addressed in the included papers. Main directions are treated in addition to several survey papers based on invited presentations of leading specialists in the respective fields. Publication provides state-of-the-art in the area of system theory and optimization and points out several new areas (e.g fuzzy set, neural nets), where classical optimization topics intersects with computer science methodology.

IFIP's Working Group 2.7(13.4)* has, since its establishment in 1974, con- centrated on the software problems of user interfaces. From its original interest in operating systems interfaces the group has gradually shifted em- phasis towards the development of interactive systems. The group has orga- nized a number of international working conferences on interactive software technology, the proceedings of which have contributed to the accumulated knowledge in the field. The current title of the Working Group is 'User Interface Engineering', with the aim of investigating the nature, concepts, and construction of user interfaces for software systems. The scope of work involved is: - to increase understanding of the development of interactive systems; - to provide a framework for reasoning about interactive systems; - to provide engineering models for their development. This report addresses all three aspects of the scope, as further described below. In 1986 the working group published a report (Beech, 1986) with an object-oriented reference model for describing the components of operating systems interfaces. The modelwas implementation oriented and built on an object concept and the notion of interaction as consisting of commands and responses. Through working with that model the group addressed a number of issues, such as multi-media and multi-modal interfaces, customizable in- terfaces, and history logging. However, a conclusion was reached that many software design considerations and principles are independent of implemen- tation models, but do depend on the nature of the interaction process.

It is, indeed, widely acceptable today that nowhere is it more important to focus on the improvement of software quality than in the case of systems with requirements in the areas of safety and reliability - especially for distributed, real-time and embedded systems. Thus, much research work is under progress in these fields, since software process improvement impinges directly on achieved levels of quality, and many application experiments aim to show quantitative results demonstrating the efficacy of particular approaches. Requirements for safety and reliability - like other so-called non-functional requirements for computer-based systems - are often stated in imprecise and ambiguous terms, or not at all. Specifications focus on functional and technical aspects, with issues like safety covered only implicitly, or not addressed directly because they are felt to be obvious; unfortunately what is obvious to an end user or system user is progressively less so to others, to the extend that a software developer may not even be aware that safety is an issue. Therefore, there is a growing evidence for encouraging greater understanding of safety and reliability requirements issues, right across the spectrum from end user to software developer; not just in traditional safety-critical areas (e.g. nuclear, aerospace) but also acknowledging the need for such things as heart pacemakers and other medical and robotic systems to be highly dependable.

For many years production management has no longer been confined to individual production facilities. Intensive cooperation with suppliers has become an integral part of production management. In recent years two further developments have gained ground. On the one hand enterprises have been specialising and concentrating on their core competencies with outsourcing as a consequence, on the other hand globalization has intensified the range of choice among suppliers. Increased dependence on suppliers called for new forms of cooperative ventures. Strategic and legal issues had to be considered and production management had to include sophisticated logistic chain management. These developments have led to the concept of `Extended Enterprise'. Among many other topics, this book discusses: co-operation between companies; supply chain management; agile and virtual management; integration of the logistic chain; and production and logistical strategies. The book comprises the proceedings of the Working Conference on Organizing the Extended Enterprise, sponsored by the International Federation for Information Processing (IFIP), which was held in Ascona, Switzerland in September 1997. PRiSM Aim of the conference To identify and study current issues related to the development of intelligent capabilities in networks. These issues include the development and distribution of services in broadband and mobile networks. This conference belongs to a series of IFIP conference on Intelligent Network. The first one took place in Lappeeranta August 94, the second one in Copenhagen, August 95. The proceedings of both events have been published by Chapman&Hall. IFIP Working Group 6.7 on IN has concentrated with the research and development of Intelligent Networks architectures. First the activities have concentrated in service creation, service management, database issues, feature interaction, IN performance and advanced signalling for broadband services. Later on the research activities have turned towards the distribution of intelligence in networks and IN applications to multimedia and mobility. The market issues of new services have also been studied. From the system development point of view, topics from OMG and TINA-C have been considered.

In today's changing world, enterprises need to survive in an ever volatile competitive market environment. Their success will depend on the strategies they practice and adopt. Every year, new ideas and concepts are emerging in order for companies to become successful enterprises. Cross Border Enterprises is the new 'hot' topic arising in the business process world at present. Many terms have been coined together and are being driven in the popular business press to describe this new strategy of conducting business, ie. Extended Enterprise (Browne et al. , 1995; O'Neill and Sacket, 1994; Busby and Fan, 1993; Caskey, 1995), Virtual Enterprise (Goldmann and Preiss, 1991; Parunak, 1994; Goranson, 1995; Doumeingts et al. , 1995), Seamless Enterprise (Harrington, 1995), Inter-Enterprise Networking (Browne et al. , 1993), Dynamic Enterprise (Weston, 1996) and so on. Many people have argued that they mean the same thing, just using different words. Others feel they are different. But how different are they? In this paper the authors will present some basic lines required from this new strategy for conducting and coordinating distributed business processes (DBP), as well as trying to clarify the particularities of two of the widest spread terms related to it: Virtual and Extended Enterprise. 2 CLUSTERS OF PRESSURES The business world currently faces an increased trend towards globalisation, environmentally benign production and customisation of products and processes, forcing individual enterprises to work together across the value chain in order to cope with market influences.
