Certification and Security in Inter-Organizational E-Services presents the proceeding of CSES 2004 - the 2nd International Workshop on Certification and Security in Inter-Organizational E-Services held within IFIP WCC 2004 in August, 2004, in Toulouse, France.  Certification and security share a common technological basis in the reliable and efficient monitoring of executed and running processes; they likewise depend on the same fundamental organizational and economic principles.  As the range of services managed and accessed through communication networks grows throughout society, and given the legal value that is often attached to data treated or exchanged, it is critical to be able to certify the network transactions and ensure that the integrity of the involved computer-based systems is maintained.This collection of papers offers real-life application experiences, research results and methodological proposals of direct interest to systems experts and users in governmental, industrial and academic communities.  This book also documents several important developments.  The uptake of distributed computational infrastructure oriented to service provision, like Web-Services and Grid, is making C&S even more important.  E-services based on legacy systems managed by autonomous and independent organizations, a common situation in the public administration sector, increase overall complexity.  The increased presence and use of e-service IT-infrastructures depends on the critical ability required for all security issues, from the basic (availability, authentication, integrity, confidentiality) to the more complex (e.g. authorization, non-repudiation), to track responsibilities, --"e;who did what"e;. 

Even in the age of ubiquitous computing, the importance of the Internet will not change and we still need to solve conventional security issues. In addition, we need to deal with new issues such as security in the P2P environment, privacy issues in the use of smart cards, and RFID systems. Security and Privacy in the Age of Ubiquitous Computing addresses these issues and more by exploring a wide scope of topics. The volume presents a selection of papers from the proceedings of the 20th IFIP International Information Security Conference held from May 30 to June 1, 2005 in Chiba, Japan. Topics covered include cryptography applications, authentication, privacy and anonymity, DRM and content security, computer forensics, Internet and web security, security in sensor networks, intrusion detection, commercial and industrial security, authorization and access control, information warfare and critical protection infrastructure. These papers represent the most current research in information security, including research funded in part by DARPA and the National Science Foundation.

Information and Communication Technologies in Real-Life Learning presents the results of an International Federation for Information Processing (IFIP) working conference held December 2004 in Melbourne, Australia.  The working conference was organized by IFIP Working Group 3.2 (Informatics and ICT in Higher Education) and IFIP Working Group 3.4 (Professional and Vocational Education in Information Technology).Challenges originating in large scale economic and social change, rapid transition to a knowledge-based society and shortage of knowledge workers demand new approaches in higher and professional education.  International trends are observed in the following areas: learning in real-life situations; development of relationships with business and industry; and new forms of assessment.The papers in this book present a cross-section of issues in real-life learning in which Information and Communication Technology (ICT) plays an important role. This book contains the refereed proceedings of the Fourth Annual Mediterranean Ad Hoc Networking Workshop, Med-Hoc-Net 2005. After Sardinia (Italy), Mahdia (Tunisia), Bodrum (Turkey), the workshop took place this year on the beautiful island, fle de Porquerolles (France). The Med-Hoc-Net 2005 event consolidates the success of the previous editions of the workshop series. It aims to serve as a platform for researchers from academia, research, laboratories and industry from all over the world to share their ideas, views, results and experiences in the field of ad hoc networking. This year, 73 papers were submitted. We accepted 39 papers as full papers and 10 papers as short papers. Each full paper consists in 10 pages in these proceedings and was presented orally at the workshop whereas each short paper consists in 5 pages in these proceedings and was presented as a poster at the workshop. The selected papers were grouped according to the following topics: Physical and MAC layers, Power Consumption, Quality of Service, Routing, Connectivity, Optimization and Testbeds, Multicast and Broadcast, Clustering, Sensor networks, Auto-organization and Adaptation, Security and Evolution and finally Analysis. The accepted papers came from all over the world, mainly from diverse countries in Europe, but also from USA, Brazil, Tunisia, China and Taiiwan. We thank all authors for submitting their papers to Med-Hoc-Net 2005. For each paper, we provided two reviews (sometimes three reviews).

The papers in this volume comprise the refereed proceedings of the conference 'Artificial Intelligence in Theory and Practice' (IFIP AI 2006), which formed part of the 19th World Computer Congress of IFIP, the International Federation for Information Processing (WCC- 2006), in Santiago, Chile in August 2006. The conference is organised by the IFIP Technical Committee on Artificial Intelligence (Technical Committee 12) and its Working Group 12.5 (Artificial Intelligence Applications). All papers were reviewed by at least two members of our Programme Committee. The best papers were selected for the conference and are included in this volume. The international nature of IFIP is amply reflected in the large number of countries represented here. The conference featured invited talks by Rose Dieng, John Atkinson, John Debenham and myself. IFIP AI 2006 also included the Second IFIP Symposium on Professional Practice in Artificial Intelligence, organised by Professor John Debenham, which ran alongside the refereed papers. I should like to thank the conference chair. Professor Debenham for all his efforts in organising the Symposium and the members of our programme committee for reviewing an unexpectedly large number of papers to a very tight deadline. This is the latest in a series of conferences organised by IFIP Technical Committee 12 dedicated to the techniques of Artificial Intelligence and their real-world applications. Generic programming is about making programs more adaptable by making them more general. Generic programs often embody non-traditional kinds of polymorphism; ordinary programs are obtained from them by suitably instantiating their parameters. In contrast with normal programs, the parameters of a generic program are often quite rich in structure; for example, they may be other programs, types or type constructors, class hierarchies, or even programming paradigms. Generic programming techniques have always been of interest, both to practitioners and to theoreticians, but only recently have generic programming techniques become a specific focus of research in the functional and object-oriented programming language communities. Generic Programming comprises the edited proceedings of the Working Conference on Generic Programming, which was sponsored by the International Federation for Information Processing (IFIP) and held in Dagstuhl, Germany in July 2002. With contributions from leading researchers around the world, this volume captures the state of the art in this important emerging area.

Engineering the Knowledge Society (EKS) - Event of the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) This book is the result of a joint event of the World Federation of Engineering Organisations (WFEO) and the International Federation for Information Processing (IFIP) held during the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) in Geneva, Switzerland, December 11 - 12, 2003. The organisation was in the hands of Mr. Raymond Morel of the Swiss Academy of Engineering Sciences (SATW). Information Technology (or Information and Communication Technology) cannot be seen as a separate entity. Its application should support human development and this application has to be engineered. Education plays a central role in the engineering of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) for human support. The conference addressed the following aspects: Lifelong Learning and education,- inclusion, ethics and social impact, engineering profession, developing- society, economy and e-Society. The contributions in this World Summit event reflected an active stance towards human development supported by ICT. A Round Table session provided concrete proposals for action.
