Following from the very successful First KES Symposium on Agent and Multi-Agent Systems - Technologies and Applications (KES-AMSTA 2007), held in Wroclaw, Poland, 31 May-1 June 2007, the second event in the KES-AMSTA symposium series (KES-AMSTA 2008) was held in Incheon, Korea, March 26-28, 2008.

This book is about knowledge, it is about the externalization of human kno- edge and about all the attempts we are undertaking to access what we have externalized before. Thus, the book should be of interest to a wide audience. Ontheotherhand,therearebooksaboutknowledge,knowledgemanagement and the like galore. There is an even larger ?ood of journal articles, conference papers andtechnicalreports,but it is rumoredthatmostare notreadby anyone at all. So, why read the present book or, at least, some of its papers? In my opinion, it is the idea of memetics which makes these proceedings special. Not every contribution deals with memetics, but Tanaka's work and his current projects are carving out the pro?le of what you ?nd in the book. Let's have a closer look. Richard Dawkins in his book The Sel?sh Gene, 1976 coined the term meme; thetermisestablishednow.TheOxfordEnglish Dictionarysays:'meme(mi:m), n. Biol. (shortened from mimeme ... that which is imitated, after GENE n.) An element of a culture that may be considered to be passed on by non-genetic means, esp. imitation'. Yuzuru Tanaka has seized upon Dawkin's suggestion and extended it - wardsconceptsand implementationsthat setthe stagefor non-geneticevolution in computer and network environments. He has coined the term meme media. His comprehensive book Meme Media and Meme Market Architectures, 2003 summarizes the current state of a?airs from the perspecive of information and communication technologies.

This volume contains the papers presented at the 11th International Conference on Logic for Programming, Arti?cial Intelligence, and Reasoning (LPAR), held from March 14 to 18, 2005, in Montevideo, Uruguay, together with the 5th - ternational Workshop on the Implementation of Logics (organized by Stephan Schulz and Boris Konev) and the Workshop on Analytic Proof Systems (or- nized by Matthias Baaz). The call for papers attracted 77 paper submissions, each of which was - viewed by at least three expert reviewers. The ?nal decisions on the papers were taken during an electronic Program Committee meeting held on the Internet. The Internet-based submission, reviewing, and discussion software EasyChair, provided by the second PC co-chair, supported each stage of the reviewing p- cess. But the most important work was, of course, done by the 34 PC members and their external reviewers, who provided high-quality reviews. After intense discussions to resolve con?icts among the reviewers, the Program Committee decided to accept 33 papers. The conference program also included 4 invited talks, by Jurgen ¿ Giesl, Al- ander Leitsch, Helmut Seidl, and Igor Walukiewicz, which are documented by short or extended abstracts in these proceedings. In addition, Mart¿ ?n Abadi held a tutorial on Reasoning About Security Protocols, and Ian Horrocks on Description Logic Reasoning.

The 7th European Conference on Case-Based Reasoning (ECCBR 2004) was held from August 30 through September 2, at the Complutense University of Madrid, Spain. ECCBR was born in Aberdeen, UK (2002), after a series of - ropeanworkshopsheldinTrento,Italy(2000),Dublin,Ireland(1998),Lausanne, Switzerland (1996), Paris, France (1994), and Kaiserslautern, Germany (1993). ECCBR is the premier international forum for researchers and practitioners of case-based reasoning (CBR) in the years interleaving with the biennial inter- tional counterpart ICCBR, whose 5th edition was held in Trondheim, Norway in 2003. The CBR community has shown for years a deep interest in the application of its research to real-world problems. As a result, the ?rst day of both ECCBR and ICCBR has been traditionally dedicated to presenting industrial CBR - plications. ECCBR 2004 Industry Day was co-chaired by Mehmet Göker and Francisco Martín who invited professionals from di?erent ?elds to describe their ?elded CBR systems. The second day of the conference was dedicated to four workshops focusing on the following research interests: CBR in health sciences, explanation in CBR, computational creativity, and CBR applied to time series prediction.
