Die Buchreihe Patronymica Romanica' ist das Publikationsorgan des Forschungsprojekts Dictionnaire historique de l'anthroponymie romane', als dessen Ergebnis sukzessive das gleichnamige Worterbuch in 6 Banden erscheint. Neben den namenskundlichen Quellen (Steuer- und Melderegister) werden v.a. Studien aus dem weiten Feld der wissenschaftlichen Beschaftigung mit den Familiennamen im Besonderen und den Personennamen im Allgemeinen publiziert.

Die Untersuchung der Veranderungen der offiziellen spanischen Vornamengebung in der Nach-Franco-Ara basiert auf einer indirekten Befragung von 20.000 Jugendlichen der Geburtsjahrgange 1968-1982. Der Fragebogenrucklauf belauft sich auf ein Drittel, sprich rund 7.000 Ruckantworten. Vor dem Hintergrund des in den 70er Jahren neu gefaten spanischen Vornamenrechts wird gepruft, ob die Namengebung weiterhin traditionellen Mustern folgt, der Name Maria bei Beilegung auf Devotion beruht, oder vielmehr ein Verlegenheitsname oder Automatismus ist, die vielen Advokationsnamen Namenmoden ausbilden, in den neu geschaffenen Autonomien (Baskenland sowie angrenzende Gebiete; Katalonien, die Balearen und Valencia sowie Galicien) die Namenwahl zusehends regional gefarbt ist, und ob der Vornamenschatz sich internationalisiert, nebst den sich daraus ergebenden gesamtgesellschaftlichen Implikationen. Einen zweiten Schwerpunkt bildet die inoffizielle Namengebung: Ruf-, Kose- und Ubernamen. Ruf- und Kosenamen konnen formal auf Suffigierung beruhende Namenerweiterungen sein. Namenverkurzungen gehen entweder auf morphologische Mechanismen (Apokope, Apharese oder Synkope sowie Kombinationen daraus) zuruck und/oder basieren auf phonologischen Veranderungen, die sich aus dem noch rudimentar ausgebildeten phonematischen Apparat eines Kleinkindes ergeben. Die Ubernamen erfahren eine formal-intensionale Klassifizierung.

O arquipelago da Madeira, desabitado no momento do seu descobrimento em 1418, foi povoado e colonizado a partir de Portugal Continental. Dada a grande importancia estrategica e economica (acucar) das ilhas, participaram neste povoamento comerciantes europeus de Italia, Franca, Espanha, Inglaterra e Alemanha assim como escravos trazidos das Canarias e de Africa. Conserva-se uma importante documentacao historica (demografica e administrativa) cujo conhecimento nos permite a interpretacao de factos socio-historicos e antroponimicos. A presente publicacao prossegue dois fins: por a disposicao do investigador da historia ou da antroponimia madeirense (e portuguesa) um instrumento de trabalho basico assim como uma introducao geral a antroponimia madeirense (e portuguesa) dos seculos XV e XVI. A partir da informatizacao da documentacao historica correspondente elaborou-se um repertorio geral de todas as pessoas e elementos nominativos que permite a sua facil localizacao documentaria. Estatisticas sistematicas de todas as fontes facilitam estudos antroponimicos e podem servir de base comparativa com eventuais outros inventarios deste tipo. Sao tratados individualmente os nomes em primeira, segunda e terceira posicao da cadeia onomastica sempre por ordem alfabetica e por frequencia. No seu estudo sobre a Antroponimia primitiva da Madeira Naidea Nunes resume a situacao antroponimica do arquipelago a qual corresponde nas suas grandes linhas a de Portugal em geral, a individualizacao se nota atraves de certos apelidos, muitas vezes de origem estrangeira, caracteristicos da Madeira. Alem desta contribuicao europeia, e de grande interesse uma eventual diferenciacao entre camadas sociais assim como a successao de modas antroponimicas a partir de um stock antroponimico a primeira vista relativamente pobre ou melhor repetitivo. A antroponimia primitiva da Madeira reflecte assim um nova sociedade em estado de constituicao, ao mesmo tempo reflecte as tendencias gerais da antroponimia portuguesa da epoca dos Descobrimentos. Esta publicacao contribui assim duplamente para um futuro dicionario historico (ou uma historia) da antroponimia portuguesa.

O proposito deste traballo e contribuir o estudio linguistico sobre os nomes de persoa na Galicia altomedieval. O corpus esta formado por documentos editos de Sobrado, Carboeiro, Samos, Xubia e Santiago, situados cronoloxicamente entre os ss. VIII e XII. Fixose necesaria a confrontacion cos orixinais, dado o numero de erros presentes nas edicions. Tras tira-los nomes propios, contamos cuns 10.000 cadeas onomasticas, o que supon o redor das 18.000 ocorrencias. A partir deste material realizouse o estudio sobre o sistema de denominacion persoal e a sua evolucion: constatouse o paso da nominacion unica a utilizacion de segundos nomes, constituidos maiormente por outros nomes persoais en xenitivo ou cun sufixo patronimico (-iz, mod. -ez); en menor medida empregaronse sobrenomes (procedentes de alcumes, hipocoristicos e designativos profesionais) e nomes de orixe (toponimos e etnicos). A seguir, considerouse a composicion etimoloxica do material onomastico, reflexo da historia social e cultural: a escasa pervivencia do elemento prerromano, a entrada dos nomes latinos ou transmitidos polo latin (gregos e hebreos), a influencia do cristianismo, a extraordinaria difusion da onomastica xermanica e a debil repercusion da arabe. En cada un destes capitulos incluese informacion estatistica que reflicte as respectivas proporcions, os nomes mais usados, a evolucion cronoloxica das formas, etc. Despois elaboramos un diccionario cos materiais onomasticos, agrupando as variantes baixo unha unica forma normalizada; o numero total de entradas ronda as 2140. En cada unha delas realizamos un estudio particularizado, que inclue informacion etimoloxica e, de se-lo caso, fonetica e historica, asi como outras posibles referencias bibliograficas. Por ultimo, incluese unha relacion das modificacions feitas as fontes revisadas, de todalas formas tratadas e da bibliografia.

The Hispano-Romance Dictionary of Namespresents a dictionary of personal names with pre-Roman, Greek and Latin-Romance etymology on the Iberian Peninsula in the Middle Ages (6th - 12th centuries). The introduction provides an overview of medieval personal nomenclature (diatopic, diastratic, and socio-historical aspects) and of linguistic structures (etymology, semantics, morphology, word-formation). There are some 1100 entries in the dictionary; besides commentaries on cultural and linguistic history, they contain representative lists of instances of the names from editions of medieval documents. The commentaries deal with etymology, the motives behind names, questions of social and cultural history (e.g. influence of saints' cults or of rulers), linguistic structure (of particular interest are delexical names and aspects of language contact as evidenced by hybrid formations), diastratic aspects (e.g. names of Jews and Mozarabs, differences between genders and social strata), the spread of the names in Romance countries, further developments in present-day Romance languages, and finally, references to the relevant secondary literature.

Of the lists of taxpayers and other persons compiled by the city of Barcelona in the 14th century, only very few have come down to us. This volume contains the oldest extant examples, stemming from the 1360s. They comprise (a) tax surveys (talles) in the various urban districts of Barcelona, listing the names of the inhabitants and the taxes levied on them, and (b) a list of inhabitants (fogatge) from the surrounding areas of the city, the territori de Barcelona, in which the information on the persons living there served as the basis for counting the number of households (focs).

Senza trascurare la ricerca etimologica per le forme rare, la ricerca punta a: valutare tendenze e flussi dell'onomastica romana utilizzando una serie innovativa di indici statistici (dispersione, originalita, semiuniverso, conformismo, concentrazione, nomi dominanti, nomi ad altra frequenza, coefficiente demografico); individuare se nella formazione delle mode una ripartizione areale anticipi l'altra e se la grande citta preceda i piccoli centri; rilevare l'eventuale esistenza di forme nominali socialmente connotate; confrontare i nomi personali dei residenti in Roma nativi con i nomi dei residenti non nativi, per valutare se esista - e quali aspetti eventualmente assuma - un'onomastica parallela degli immigrati italiani nella capitale; esaminare allotropi, varianti e alterati, con particolare attenzione alla microvariantistica. Inoltre lo studio intende verificare con criteri di cronografia e sociografia onomastica la scelta di nomi personali da parte di autori romani - nei campi della letteratura, teatro, cinema, sceneggiati televisivi, canzoni - per valutare quali influenze abbiano maggiormente inciso nel battesimo dei personaggi, tentando di formulare ipotesi nel merito del processo di formazione delle mode. Tabelle e grafici documentano gli aspetti piu prettamente statistici, connotano le forme lungo l'asse diatopico, diacronico e diastratico; evidenziano le varianti meno comuni. Il tentativo di collocare la situazione romana in un quadro europeo o mondiale risponde non soltanto all'esigenza di una necessaria comparazione, ma anche all'attualita del moltiplicarsi dei contatti interlinguistici e delle forme nominali allotrie tra i cittadini italiani.

Este volumen contiene las Actas del IX Coloquio PatRom, organizado por el centro PatRom de Uviéu/Oviedo en 1995, y en el que se intentó acercar a los investigadores europeos del proyecto PatRom al asturiano, romance situado en el norte de España entre el gallego y el castellano.

This pilot volume serves to present the project entitled "PatRom (Patronymica Romanica - An Historical Dictionary of Patronymics in the Romance Languages)" and assembling 18 research groups from various European Romance countries and Germany (University of Trier). The aim is by the year 2000 to have completed for publication an historical dictionary of personal and family names of delexical origins in the Romance languages. The present volume is a pilot publication acquainting potential scholarly audiences with the dictionary and its aims. The body of the volume takes the form of 47 articles on representatives of lemmatized etymological source names that have taken root in the onomastic stock of the various Romance countries. A substantial introduction traces the historical development of the project and expounds its aims, structures and methods. The work closes with four trial indexes serving three of the articles in the volume.

Systematische Übersicht durch anerkannte Fachvertreter über den aktuellen Stand und Desiderata der Ortsnamenforschung der verschiedenen Regionen Spaniens. Durch die gleichberechtigte Integration der zweisprachigen Autonomen Regionen Galicien, Asturien, Baskenland und Navarra, Katalonien, Valencia und Balearen ist dieses Vademekum nicht nur für Romanisten und Baskologen sondern ebenso für Spezialisten anderer Disziplinen wie Kartographen, Geographen, Historiker, Archäologen usw. von großem Interesse.

This study aims at offering an explicatory description of the medieval Asturian anthroponymy from the very first romance documents up to the dawn of the Modern Ages, basically following two aspects: the onomastic system and the repertoire of anthroponymic forms which existed during the Middle Ages, the study of which includes both the strictly linguistic analysis as such and the analysis of the cultural, the anthropological and the religious aspects related to each of the forms, as well as their particular chronology in Asturias, their process of diffusion, their period of utmost use, all of which is based on statistical information obtained from a corpus of over 20,000 people registered in medieval diplomas published between 1200-1500.
