The book examines Slovak education as an example of totalitarianism, exploring two opposing sides: the publicly expressed values and ideals of offi cial compulsory education subordinated to government power and the alternative ideals and concepts of unofficial education implemented by informal groups and underground organizations (dissent). The authors seek answers to Hannah Arendt's iconic questions: What happened? Why did it happen? How could this happen? The title of the book also references the dualism in the lives of individuals and families who did not identify with the doctrine of Marxism-Leninism and totalitarian ways of governing. In order to preserve their inner freedom, they lived a double life, one in private and the other in public.

Aus der pastoraltheologischen Reflexion der Ergebnisse wird auf die mediale Präsenz der Kirche geschlossen. Wie wird die Kirche in der Boulevardpresse dargestellt? Wie kann dieses Kirchenbild interpretiert werden? Was kann die Kirche für sich selbst aus der für sie nicht immer vorteilhaften Darstellung in der Boulevard-Zeitschrift lernen? Die Fragestellung ist umso spannender, wenn man bedenkt, dass die meistgekaufte Boulevardzeitschrift in der Slowakei gegenüber der Kirche meistens kritisch ist, wobei die überwiegende Mehrheit der slowakischen Bevölkerung sich zur dieser Kirche bekennt.

Dieses Buch ist eine bibliographische Auswahl aus dem umfangreichen Schrifttum zur Geschichte, Entstehungsmethode, Inhalt und Bedeutung der justinianischen Digesten. Obwohl die Forscher schon über ein Jahrtausend diese Hauptquelle des römischen Rechts systematisch untersuchen, bleiben manche Fragen bis heute ungelöst; neue Forschungen beginnen und andere sollten folgen. Diese Bibliographieauswahl bietet eine grundlegende Orientierung in Ausgaben der Digesten selbst und in der anknüpfenden wissenschaftlichen Fachliteratur.

Nur selten erlitt eine mittelalterliche Frauengestalt seitens der Schriftsteller und Historiker soviel Unrecht und ging mit solch schlechtem Ruf wie Königin Barbara von Cilli in die Geschichte ein. In der Literatur wird Barbara seit mehreren Jahrhunderten systematisch geschmäht. Die ersten Werke, die ein negatives Bild über sie verbreiteten, entstanden schon in der Zeit ihres Todes oder sogar noch während ihres Lebens, und sie ging als Schwarze Königin oder Deutsche Messalina ins historische Bewusstsein ein. Die Autorin hat auf überraschende Weise den Ursprung der negativen Legende über Barbara von Cilli sowie ihre Urheber entdeckt. Auf Grund einer detaillierten Analyse der bis jetzt unbekannten historischen Quellen verfolgt sie die Art und Weise, wie sich das negative Bild in der damaligen Literatur und später auch im historischen Schrifttum verbreitete. Die Autorin arbeitete mit bisher nicht veröffentlichten Quellen, was ihr ermöglichte, viele Fehler und Ungenauigkeiten, die seit Jahren in der Fachliteratur im Zusammenhang mit der Königin Barbara erscheinen, zu korrigieren. Das Ergebnis bietet nicht nur Einblick in die Lebensgeschichte der Barbara von Cilli, sondern auch in die gesellschaftliche Stellung einer mittelalterlichen Königin im Allgemeinen.
