The book constitutes the joint refereed proceedings of the 9th International Conference on Relational Methods in Computer Science, RelMiCS 2006, and the 4th International Workshop on Applications of Kleene Algebras, AKA 2006, held in Manchester, UK in August/September 2006. The 25 revised full papers presented together with two invited papers and the abstract of an invited talk were carefully reviewed and selected from 44 submissions.

Although the school system is subject to specific national regulations, didactical issues warrant discussion on an international level. This applies specifically to informatics didactics. In contrast to most other scientific disciplines, informatics undergoes substantial technical and scientific changes and shifts of paradigms even at the basic level taught in secondary school. Moreover, informatics education is under more stringent observation from parents, potential employers, and policy makers than other disciplines. It is considered to be a modern discipline. Hence, being well-educated in informatics seemingly ensures good job perspectives. Further, policy makers pay attention to informatics education, hoping that a young population well-educated in this modern technology will contribute to the future wealth of the nation. But are such high aspirations justified? What should school aim at in order to live up to such expectations? ISSEP 2005, the 1st International Conference on Informatics in Secondary Schools - Evolution and Perspectives already showed that informatics teachers have to bridge a wide gap [1, 2]. On one hand, they have to show the inherent properties that informatics (or computer science) can contribute to general education. On the other hand, they are to make pupils computer literate. Under the constraint of limited time available for instruction, these different educational aims come into conflict. Computer-supported teaching or eLearning is to be considered distinct from informatics education. However, in many countries, informatics teachers still have to support the eTeaching activities of their colleagues.

The 32nd International Workshop on Graph-Theoretic Concepts in Computer Science (WG 2006) was held on the island of Sotra close to the city of Bergen on the west coast of Norway. The workshop was organized by the Algorithms Research Group at the Department of Informatics, University of Bergen, and it took place from June 22 to June 24. The 78 participants of WG 2006 came from the universities and research institutes of 17 di?erent countries. The WG 2006 workshop continues the series of 31 previous WG workshops. Since 1975,WG has taken place 20 times in Germany, four times in The Neth- lands, twice in Austria as well as oncein France,in Italy, in Slovakia,in Switz- land and in the Czech Republic, and has now been held for the ?rst time in Norway. The workshop aims at uniting theory and practice by demonstrating how graph-theoretic concepts can be applied to various areas in computer s- ence, or by extracting new problems from applications. The goal is to present recent research results and to identify and explore directions of future research. The talks showed how recent researchresults from algorithmic graph theory can be used in computer science and which graph-theoreticquestions arisefrom new developments in computer science. There were two fascinating invited lectures by Hans Bodlaender (Utrecht, The Netherlands) and Tandy Warnow (Austin, USA).

This book constitutes the thoroughly refereed post-conference proceedings of the 13th Advances in Computer Games Conference, ACG 2011, held in Tilburg, The Netherlands, in November 2011. The 29 revised full papers presented were carefully reviewed and selected from numerous submissions. The papers cover a wide range of topics such as Monte-Carlo tree search and its enhancement, temporal difference learning, optimization, solving and searching, analysis of a game characteristic, new approaches, and serious games.

This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the 10th International Conference on Principles of Distributed Systems, OPODIS 2006, held at Bordeaux, France, in December 2006. The 28 revised full papers presented together with two invited talks address all current issues in theory, specification, design and implementation of distributed and embedded systems.

This book constitutes the thoroughly refereed postproceedings of the 12th International Meeting on DNA Computing, DNA12, held in Seoul, Korea in June 2006. The 34 revised full papers presented are organized in topical sections on molecular and membrane computing models, complexity analysis, sequence and tile designs and their properties, DNA tile self-assembly models, simulator and software for DNA computing, DNA computing algorithms and new applications, novel experimental approaches, and experimental solutions.

This book constitutes the refereed joint proceedings of ten international workshops held in conjunction with the 4th International Symposium on Parallel and Distributed Processing and Applications, ISPA 2006, held in Sorrento, Italy in December 2006. It contains 116 papers that contribute to enlarging the spectrum of the more general topics treated in the ISPA 2006 main conference.

VI realm between distributed computing and networking, namely, Modeling Biological Networks, Network Security, Algorithmic Issues in Wireless Sensor Networks, and Optical Networking. This was made possible by the efforts of the Tutorial Chairs, Sr- har Iyer and Pinaki Mitra. The ARCS series of conferences has over 30 years of tradition reporting hi- quality results in computer architecture and operating systems research. While the conference is proud of its long tradition, it is also proud to represent a - namic, evolving community that closely follows new research trends and topics. Thus, over the last few years, ARCS has evolved towards a strong focus on s- tem aspects of pervasive computing and self-organization techniques (organic and autonomic computing). At the same time it has expanded from its roots as a German Informatics Society (GI/ITG) conference to an international event. This is re?ected by the composition of the TPC which included over 30 renown scientist from 10 di?erent countries. The conference attracted 83 submission from 16 countries across 4 continents. Of those, 20 have been accepted, which amounts to an acceptance rate below 25%. The 20th ARCS event was a special anniversary conference. It is only ?tting that it was held at a special place: the ETH Zurich. It combines one of the leading information technology schools in Europe with a beautiful location.

This book constitutes the thoroughly refereed post-proceedings of the 7th International Conference on High Performance Computing for Computational Science, VECPAR 2006, held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, in June 2006. The 44 revised full papers presented together with one invited paper and 12 revised workshop papers cover Grid computing, cluster computing, numerical methods, large-scale simulations in Physics, and computing in Biosciences.

This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the Third International Workshop on Applied Reconfigurable Computing, ARC 2007, held in Mangaratiba, Brazil, in March 2007. The 27 full papers and 10 short papers presented together with a late-comer contribution from ARC 2006 are organized in topical sections on architectures, mapping techniques and tools, arithmetic, and applications.

This two volume set constitutes the refereed proceedings of the 8th International Conference on Adaptive and Natural Computing Algorithms, ICANNGA 2007, held in Warsaw, Poland, in April 2007. Coverage in the first volume includes evolutionary computation, genetic algorithms, and particle swarm optimization. The second volume covers neural networks, support vector machines, biomedical signal and image processing, biometrics, computer vision.

Welcome to the proceedings of the 14th WoLLIC meeting, which was held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, July 2 - 5, 2007. The Workshop on Logic, Language, Information and Computation (WoLLIC) is an annual international forum on inter-disciplinary research involving formal logic, computing and programming theory, and natural language and reasoning. The WoLLIC meetings alternate between Brazil (and Latin America) and other countries, with the aim of fostering interest in applied logic among Latin Am- ican scientists and students, and facilitating their interaction with the international - plied logic community. WoLLIC 2007 focused on foundationsof computing and programming,novel c- putation models and paradigms, broad notions of proof and belief, formal methods in software and hardware development; logical approaches to natural language and r- soning; logics of programs, actions and resources; foundational aspects of information organization, search, ?ow, sharing, and protection. The Program Committee for this meeting, consisting of the 28 colleagues listed here, was designed to promote these inter-disciplinary and cross-disciplinary topics. Like its predecessors, WoLLIC 2007 included invited talks and tutorials as well as contributed papers. The Program Committee received 52 complete submissions (aside from 15 preliminary abstracts which did not materialize). A thorough review process by the Program Committee, assisted by over 70 external reviewers, led to the acc- tance of 21 papers for presentation at the meeting and inclusion in these proceedings. The conference program also included 16 talks and tutorials by 10 prominent invited speakers, who graciously accepted the Program Committee's invitation.

The Annual International Computing and Combinatorics Conference is an annual forum for exploring research, development, and novel applications of computing and combinatorics. It brings together researchers, professionals and industrial practitioners to interact and exchange knowledge, ideas and progress. Thetopics covermost aspects oftheoreticalcomputer scienceand combinatorics related to computing. The 13th Annual International Computing and Com- natorics Conference (COCOON 2007) was held in Ban?, Alberta during July 16-19, 2007. This was the ?rst time that COCOON was held in Canada. We received 165 submissions, among which 11 were withdrawn for various reasons. The remaining 154 submissions under full consideration came from 33 countries and regions: Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hong Kong, India, Iran, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Japan, the Netherlands, Norway, Pakistan, Poland, Romania, R- sia, Slovakia, South Korea, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Taiwan, Turkey, the UK, the USA, and the US minor outlying islands.
