On behalf of the program and organizing committee members of this conference, we th are pleased to present you with the proceedings of the 12 Asia-Pacific Computer Systems Architecture Conference (ACSAC 2007), which was hosted in Seoul, Korea on August 23-25, 2007. This conference has traditionally been a forum for leading researchers in the Asian, American and Oceanian regions to share recent progress and the latest results in both architectural and system issues. In the past few years the c- ference has become more international in the sense that the geographic origin of p- ticipants has become broader to include researchers from all around the world, incl- ing Europe and the Middle East. This year, we received 92 paper submissions. Each submission was reviewed by at least three primary reviewers along with up to three secondary reviewers. The total number of completed reviews reached 333, giving each submission 3.6 reviews on average. All the reviews were carefully examined during the paper selection process, and finally 26 papers were accepted, resulting in an acceptance rate of about 28%. The selected papers encompass a wide range of topics, with much emphasis on hardware and software techniques for state-of-the-art multicore and multithreaded architectures.

This three-volume set constitutes the refereed proceedings of the International Conference on Computational Science and its Applications. These volumes feature outstanding papers that present a wealth of original research results in the field of computational science, from foundational issues in computer science and mathematics to advanced applications in almost all sciences that use computational techniques.

This book features the refereed proceedings of the 2nd International Symposium on Computer Science in Russia held in September 2007. The 35 papers cover theory track deals with algorithms, protocols, and data structures; complexity and cryptography; formal languages, automata and their applications to computer science; computational models and concepts; proof theory; and applications of logic to computer science. Many applications are presented.

This book is the first of a two-volume set that constitutes the refereed proceedings of the 17th International Conference on Artificial Neural Networks, ICANN 2007, held in Porto, Portugal, September 2007. Coverage includes advances in neural network learning methods, advances in neural network architectures, neural dynamics and complex systems, data analysis, evolutionary computing, agents learning, as well as temporal synchronization and nonlinear dynamics in neural networks.

This book constitutes the refereed joint proceedings of seven international workshops held in conjunction with the 5th International Symposium on Parallel and Distributed Processing and Applications, ISPA 2007, held in Niagara Falls, Canada in August 2007. The 53 revised full papers presented were carefully selected from many high quality submissions. The workshops contribute to enlarging the spectrum of the more general topics treated in the ISPA 2007 main conference.

This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the 4th International Symposium on Stochastic Algorithms: Foundations and Applications, SAGA 2007. The nine revised full papers and five invited papers presented were carefully selected for inclusion in the book. The contributed papers included in this volume cover both theoretical as well as applied aspects of stochastic computations with a special focus on investigating the power of randomization in algorithmics.

The trend towards wireless communication increasingly a?ects electronic devices in almost every sphere of life. Conventional wireless networks rely on infrastructure such as base stations; mobile devices interact with these base stations in a client/server fashion. In contrast, current research is focusing on networks that are completely unstructured, but are nevertheless able to communicate (via several hops) with each other, despite the low coverage of their antennas. Such systems are called sensor orad hoc networks, depending on the point of view and the application. Wireless ad hoc and sensor networks have gained an incredible research momentum.Computerscientistsandengineersofall?avorsareembracingthe area. Sensor networks have been adopted by researchers in many ?elds: from hardware technology to operating systems, from antenna design to databases, from information theory to networking, from graph theory to computational geometry.

This book constitutes the refereed post-proceedings of the First and Second VLDB Workshop Ontologies-based techniques for DataBases and Information Systems, held in Trondheim, Norway, September 2005 and Seoul, Korea, September 2006. The topics include ontology-based interoperability and schema matching, management of ontological bases and links between ontologies and knowledge.

This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the 21st International Symposium on Distributed Computing, DISC 2007. The 32 revised full papers, presented together with abstracts of three invited papers and nine brief announcements of ongoing works, cover all current issues in distributed computing, including theory, design, analysis, implementation, and application of distributed systems and networks. Coverage ranges from theoretical topics to applications in various fields.

This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the 6th International Symposium on Trustworthy Global Computing, TGC 2011, held in Aachen, Germany, in June 2011. The 14 revised full papers presented were carefully reviewed and selected from 25 submissions. The papers are organized in topical sections on modeling formalisms for concurrent systems; model checking and quantitative extensions thereof; semantics and analysis of modern programming languages; probabilistic models for concurrency; and testing and run-time verification.

This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the Third Latin-American Symposium on Dependable Computing, LADC 2007, held in Morelia, Mexico, in September 2007. The papers are organized in topical sections on fault-tolerant algorithms, software engineering of dependable systems, networking and mobile computing, experimental dependability evaluation, as well as intrusion tolerance and security.

This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the Third International Conference on High Performance Computing and Communications, HPCC 2007. The 75 revised full papers address all current issues of parallel and distributed systems and high performance computing and communication, including networking protocols, embedded systems, wireless, mobile and pervasive computing, Web services and internet computing, and programming interfaces for parallel systems.

This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the 15th Annual European Symposium on Algorithms, ESA 2007, held in Eilat, Israel, in October 2007 in the context of the combined conference ALGO 2007.The 63 revised full papers presented together with abstracts of three invited lectures address all current subjects in algorithmics reaching from design and analysis issues of algorithms over to real-world applications and engineering of algorithms in various fields.

This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the 14th International Symposium on String Processing and Information Retrieval, SPIRE 2007. Coverage in the 27 revised full papers includes dictionary algorithms, text searching, pattern matching, text compression, text mining, natural language processing, sequence driven protein structure prediction, XML, SGML, information retrieval from semi-structured data, text mining and generation of structured data from text.

This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the 18th International Symposium on Algorithms and Computation, ISAAC 2007, held in Sendai, Japan, in December 2007. The 77 revised full papers presented together with two invited talks were carefully reviewed and selected from 220 submissions. The papers included topical sections on graph algorithms, computational geometry, complexity, graph drawing, distributed algorithms, optimization, data structure, and game theory.

The AAECC Symposia Series was started in 1983 by Alain Poli (Toulouse), who, together with R. Desq, D. Lazard, and P. Camion, organized the ?rst conference. Originally the acronym AAECC meant "e;Applied Algebra and Error-Correcting Codes"e;. Over the years its meaning has shifted to "e;Applied Algebra, Algebraic Algorithms, and Error-Correcting Codes"e;, re?ecting the growing importance of complexity in both decoding algorithms and computational algebra. AAECC aims to encourage cross-fertilization between algebraic methods and their applications in computing and communications. The algebraic orientation is towards ?nite ?elds, complexity, polynomials, and graphs. The applications orientation is towards both theoretical and practical error-correction coding, and, since AAECC 13 (Hawaii, 1999), towards cryptography. AAECC was the ?rst symposium with papers connecting Gr*obner bases with E-C codes. The balance between theoretical and practical is intended to shift regularly; at AAECC-14 the focus was on the theoretical side. The main subjects covered were: - Codes: iterative decoding, decoding methods, block codes, code construction. - Codes and algebra: algebraic curves, Gr*obner bases, and AG codes. - Algebra: rings and ?elds, polynomials. - Codes and combinatorics: graphs and matrices, designs, arithmetic. - Cryptography. - Computational algebra: algebraic algorithms. - Sequences for communications.

This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the 14th International Conference on High-Performance Computing, HiPC 2007, held in Goa, India, in December 2007. The 53 revised full papers presented together with the abstracts of five keynote talks were carefully reviewed and selected from 253 submissions. The papers are organized in topical sections on a broad range of applications including I/O and FPGAs, and microarchitecture and multiprocessor architecture.

This book constitutes the proceedings of the 15th International Conference on Distributed Computing and Networking, ICDCN 2014, held in Coimbatore, India, in January 2014. The 32 full papers and 8 short papers presented in this volume were carefully reviewed and selected from 110 submissions. They are organized in topical sections named: mutual exclusion, agreement and consensus; parallel and multi-core computing; distributed algorithms; transactional memory; P2P and distributed networks; resource sharing and scheduling; cellular and cognitive radio networks and backbone networks.

This highly relevant and up-to-the-minute book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the Third International Conference on High Performance Embedded Architectures and Compilers, HiPEAC 2008, held in Goteborg, Sweden, January 27-29, 2008. The 25 revised full papers presented together with 1 invited keynote paper were carefully reviewed and selected from 77 submissions. The papers are organized into topical sections on a number of key subjects in the field.

This is the joint post-proceedings of the 6th International Symposium on High Performance Computing (ISHPC-VI) and the First International Workshop on Advanced Low Power Systems 2006 (ALPS2006). The post-proceedings also contain the papers presented at the Second HPF International Workshop: - periences and Progress (HiWEP2005) and the Workshop on Applications for PetaFLOPS Computing (APC2005), which are workshops of ISHPC-VI. ISHPC-VI, HiWEP2005 and APC2005 were held in Nara, Japan during September 7-9, 2005. Fifty-eight papers from 11 countries were submitted to ISHPC-VI. After the reviews of the submitted papers, the ISHPC-VI Program Committee selected 15 regular (12-page) papers for oral presentation. In ad- tion, several other papers with favorable reviews were recommended for poster presentation, and 14 short (8-page) papers were also selected. Twenty-eight papers out of 29 ISHPC-VI papers are contained in the post-proceedings. Hi- WEP2005 and APC2005 received eight and ten submissions, with six and eight papers being accepted for oral presentation after reviews, respectively. All the HiWEP2005 and APC2005 papers are included in the post-proceedings. ALPS2006 was held in Cairns, Australia on July 1, 2006 in conjunction with the ACM 20th International Conference on Supercomputing. The number of submitted papers was 15, and eight papers were accepted for oral presentation. The post-proceedings contain six of the eight papers.

This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the 21st International Conference on Architecture of Computing Systems, ARCS 2008, held in Dresden, Germany, in February 2008.The 19 revised full papers presented together with 2 keynote papers were carefully reviewed and selected from 47 submissions. The papers cover a wide spectrum reaching from pre-fabrication adaptation of architectural templates to dynamic run-time adaptation of deployed systems with special focus on adaptivity and adaptive system architectures. The papers are organized in topical sections on hardware design, pervasive computing, network processors and memory management, reconfigurable hardware, real-time architectures, organic computing, and computer architecture.

Biomolecular/DNA computing is now well established as an interdisciplinary field where chemistry, computer science, molecular biology, physics, and mathematics come together with the common purpose of fundamental scientific understanding of biology and chemistry and its applications. This international meeting has been the premier forum where scientists with different backgrounds and a common focus meet to present their latest results and entertain visions of the future. In this tradition, about 100 participants converged in Memphis, Tennessee to hold the 13th International Meeting on DNA Computing during June 4-8, 2007, under the auspices of the International Society for Nanoscale Science, Computation and Engineering (ISNSCE) and The University of Memphis. The call for papers encouraged submissions of original, recent, and promising experimental and theoretical results in the field. The Call for Papers elicited some 62 submissions, almost perfectly balanced among the major theoretical and experimental categories. It is evidence of how well the interdisciplinary nature of the conference has truly matured that the major criterion of quality, agreed upon in advance by the Program Committee (PC), produced a nearly balanced program as well across the two major categories, full papers and talks with an abstract only. The program with the greatest perceived impact consisted of 24 papers for plenary oral talks; in addition, 15 full-paper posters and 10 poster abstracts were accepted, of which 5 authors were invited to give five short demos in a new submission category this year. The conference program retained the structure now customary for this meeting.

Parallelanddistributedprocessing,althoughwithinthefocusofcomputerscience researchforalongtime,isgainingmoreandmoreimportanceinawidespectrum of applications. These proceedings aim to demonstrate the use of parallel and distributed processing concepts in di?erent application ?elds, and attempt to spark interest in novel research directions to advance the embracing model of high-performance computing research in general. The objective of these workshops is to speci?cally address researchers c- ing from university, industry and governmental research organizations and application-oriented companies, in order to close the gap between purely s- enti?c research and the applicability of the research ideas to real-life problems. Euro-Par is an annual series of international conferences dedicated to the promotionandadvancementofallaspectsofparallelanddistributedcomputing. The 2007 event was the 13th issue of the conference. Euro-Par has for a long time been eager to attract colocated events sharing the same goal of promoting the development of parallel and distributed computing, both as an industrial technique and an academic discipline, extending the frontier of both the state of the art and the state of the practice. Since 2006, Euro-Par o?ers researchersthe chance to colocate advanced technical workshops back-to-back with the main conference. This is for a mutual bene?t: the workshops can take advantage of all technical and social facilities which are set up for the conference, so that the organizational tasks are kept to a minimal level; the conference can rely on workshopstoexperimentwithspeci?careasofresearchwhicharenotyetmature enough, or too speci?c, to lead to an o?cial, full-?edged topic at the conference.

This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the 9th European Conference on Evolutionary Computation in Combinatorial Optimization, EvoCOP 2009, held in Tubingen, Germany, in April 2009. The 21 revised full papers presented were carefully reviewed and selected from 53 submissions. The papers present the latest research and discuss current developments and applications in metaheuristics - a paradigm to effectively solve difficult combinatorial optimization problems appearing in various industrial, economical, and scientific domains. Prominent examples of metaheuristics are evolutionary algorithms, simulated annealing, tabu search, scatter search, memetic algorithms, variable neighborhood search, iterated local search, greedy randomized adaptive search procedures, estimation of distribution algorithms and ant colony optimization.
