The Bialowieza Workshops on Geometric Methods in Physics, which are hosted in the unique setting of the Bialowieza natural forest in Poland, are among the most important meetings in the field.

Many of our daily-life problems can be written in the form of an optimization problem. It is immensely helpful for young graduates and researchers who are pursuing research in this field, as it provides abundant research resources for researchers and post-doctoral fellows.

The book contains 13 articles, some of which are survey articles and others research papers. The workshop offered a comprehensive exposition of the recent developments in geometric functions theory, planar harmonic mappings, entire and meromorphic functions and their applications, both theoretical and computational.

This volume consists of papers inspired by the special session on pseudo-differential operators at the 10th ISAAC Congress held at the University of Macau, August 3-8, 2015 and the mini-symposium on pseudo-differential operators in industries and technologies at the 8th ICIAM held at the National Convention Center in Beijing, August 10-14, 2015.The twelve papers included present cutting-edge trends in pseudo-differential operators and applications from the perspectives of Lie groups (Chapters 1-2), geometry (Chapters 3-5) and applications (Chapters 6-12). Many contributions cover applications in probability, differential equations and time-frequency analysis. A focus on the synergies of pseudo-differential operators with applications, especially real-life applications, enhances understanding of the analysis and the usefulness of these operators.

This book gathers contributions written by Daniel Alpay¿s friends and collaborators. Several of the papers were presented at the International Conference on Complex Analysis and Operator Theory held in honor of Professor Alpay¿s 60th birthday at Chapman University in November 2016. The main topics covered are complex analysis, operator theory and other areas of mathematics close to Alpay¿s primary research interests. This special issue collects selected contributions (excluding general lectures) of a Symposium on "Micro to MACRO Mathematical Modelling in Soil Mechanics", which took place at the University of Reggio Calabria, Italy, from May 29th to June 1st, 2018.The Symposium provided an opportunity to enhance the scientific debate on the construction of mathematical models for the description of the physical behaviour of soils, as well as on the suggestions provided by the micro-mechanical observation of the matter. This book focuses on developments in complex dynamical systems and geometric function theory over the past decade, showing strong links with other areas of mathematics and the natural sciences.Traditional methods and approaches surface in physics and in the life and engineering sciences with increasing frequency - the Schramm-Loewner evolution, Laplacian growth, and quadratic differentials are just a few typical examples. The Proceedings volume contains 16 contributions to the IMPA conference "New Trends in Parameter Identification for Mathematical Models", Rio de Janeiro, Oct 30 - Nov 3, 2017, integrating the "Chemnitz Symposium on Inverse Problems on Tour".  This conference is part of the "Thematic Program on Parameter Identification in Mathematical Models" organized  at IMPA in October and November 2017. One goal is to foster the scientific collaboration between mathematicians and engineers from the Brazialian, European and Asian communities.
