Bryan Lawton received ASME's Engineering-Historian Award in 2016 for his book Various and Ingenious Machines, a two-volume work that provides a history of mechanical engineering worldwide, from prehistory to the beginnings of industrialization. ASME Press is offering the book in a shortened, more affordable and accessible form, to serve as a guide to probing deeper into the parent work.
