This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the 4th International Conference on Dynamic Data Driven Applications Systems, DDDAS 2022, which took place in Cambridge, MA, USA, during October 6-10, 2022.The 31 regular papers in the main track and 5 regular papers from the Wildfires panel, as well as one workshop paper, were carefully reviewed and selected for inclusion in the book. This book presents the intersection of two dynamic fields: Reinforcement Learning (RL) and RIS- Assisted Wireless Communications. With an emphasis on both discrete and continuous problems, it introduces a comprehensive overview of RL techniques and their applications in the evolving world of RIS-assisted wireless communications. Chapter 1 introduces the fundamentals of RL and deep RL (DRL), providing a solid foundation for understanding subsequent chapters. It empowers these systems to intelligently adapt to dynamic wireless environments, maximize performance metrics, and adjusts their configurations to accommodate diverse use cases efficiently. This book provides a comprehensive study of Federated Learning (FL) over wireless networks. It consists of three main parts: (a) Fundamentals and preliminaries of FL, (b) analysis and optimization of FL over wireless networks, and (c) applications of wireless FL for Internet-of-Things systems. In particular, in the first part, the authors provide a detailed overview on widely-studied FL framework. In the second part of this book, the authors comprehensively discuss three key wireless techniques including wireless resource management, quantization, and over-the-air computation to support the deployment of FL over realistic wireless networks. It also presents several solutions based on optimization theory, graph theory and machine learning to optimize the performance of FL over wireless networks. In the third part of this book, the authors introduce the use of wireless FL algorithms for autonomous vehicle control and mobile edge computing optimization. Machine learning and data-driven approaches have recently received considerable attention as key enablers for next-generation intelligent networks. Currently, most existing learning solutions for wireless networks rely on centralizing the training and inference processes by uploading data generated at edge devices to data centers. However, such a centralized paradigm may lead to privacy leakage, violate the latency constraints of mobile applications, or may be infeasible due to limited bandwidth or power constraints of edge devices. To address these issues, distributing machine learning at the network edge provides a promising solution, where edge devices collaboratively train a shared model using real-time generated mobile data. The avoidance of data uploading to a central server not only helps preserve privacy but also reduces network traffic congestion as well as communication cost. Federated learning (FL) is one of most important distributed learning algorithms. In particular, FL enables devices to train a shared machine learning model while keeping data locally. However, in FL, training machine learning models requires communication between wireless devices and edge servers over wireless links. Therefore, wireless impairments such as noise, interference, and uncertainties among wireless channel states will significantly affect the training process and performance of FL. For example, transmission delay can significantly impact the convergence time of FL algorithms. In consequence, it is necessary to optimize wireless network performance for the implementation of FL algorithms.This book targets researchers and advanced level students in computer science and electrical engineering. Professionals working in signal processing and machine learning will also buy this book.

IoT-enabled environmental intelligence is the constant measurement and collection of our physical environment, through sensors and smart devices. Chapter 6 presents the requirements and challenges to realize IoT deployments in smart cities, including sensing infrastructure, Artificial Intelligence, computing platforms, and enabling communications technologies such as 5G networks. To highlight these challenges in practice, the chapter also presents a real-world case study of a city-scale deployment of IoT air quality monitoring within Helsinki city. Chapter 7 uses digital twins within smart cities to enhance economic progress and facilitate prompt decision-making regarding situational awareness. Chapter 8 provides insights into using Multi-Objective reinforcement learning in future IoT networks, especially for an efficient decision-making system. Chapter 9 offers a comprehensive review of intelligent inference approaches, with a specific emphasis on reducing inference time and minimizing transmitted bandwidth between IoT devices and the cloud. Chapter 10 summarizes the applications of deep learning models in various IoT fields. This chapter also presents an in-depth study of these techniques to examine new horizons of applications of deep learning models in different areas of IoT. Chapter 11 explores the integration of Quantum Key Distribution (QKD) into IoT systems. It delves into the potential benefits, challenges, and practical considerations of incorporating QKD into IoT networks. In chapter 12, a comprehensive overview regarding the current state of quantum IoT in the context of smart healthcare is presented, along with its applications, benefits, challenges, and prospects for the future. Chapter 13 proposes a blockchain-based architecture for securing and managing IoT data in intelligent transport systems, offering advantages like immutability, decentralization, and enhanced security.

Cássio Bratti, Priscila Pelegrini and Adriana Redivo never intended to write a book, but they always thought about doing something for society that could contribute in some way to other people. While working in a meatpacking company to solve problems found in a sector of the industry, they saw the contribution the study could make to other academics, so the work was turned into an article and published in congresses and magazines. The aim of publishing this book is to continue distributing the knowledge and study carried out using the Arena program, in order to help both academics and company managers with the challenges encountered in industry on a daily basis.

Quando hanno lavorato in un'azienda di confezionamento della carne per risolvere i problemi riscontrati in un settore dell'industria, hanno visto il contributo che lo studio avrebbe potuto dare ad altri studiosi, così il lavoro è stato trasformato in un articolo e pubblicato in congressi e riviste. La pubblicazione di questo libro ha l'obiettivo di continuare a distribuire le conoscenze e gli studi realizzati con il programma Arena, per aiutare sia gli accademici che i dirigenti d'azienda ad affrontare le sfide che si incontrano quotidianamente nell'industria.

Critically appraising journal articles allow one to filter out the low-quality studies and distinguish misleading information. In an attempt to apply this to the field of management, whilst reducing the possibility of flaws and classification errors, the CEBMa adapted appraisal questionnaires for specific study designs, one of which ¿ ¿Appraisal of a Case Study¿ ¿ shall act the basis of this critical essay.The article in review is featured in Elsevier's 'International Journal of Project Management' and was made available online on ScienceDirect.com on the 8th of January 2016. As declared in the journal¿s ¿Author Information Pack¿ document, papers by the editorial board are selected for publication based on their relevance, clarity, topicality, the extent to which they advance knowledge, and their contribution to inspiring further development and research. The information pack contains a strict and lengthy checklist of requirements and guidelines for researchers to adhere to, before submitting their research for publishing in the IJPM. Hence, a journal article undergoes a rigorous test prior to being released and therefore, at face value, one can expect this study to be trustworthy and of adequate quality. Authors, M.A. Terlizzi, F. de Souza Meirelles, and H.R.O.C. de Moraes researched under the auspices of the São Paulo School of Business Administration, a Brazilian Higher Education institution. All three are Brazilian nationals and hold considerable experience in IT, IT Governance, Business Administration, Project Management, and Academia. The researchers did not comment on their own role and any professional bias they might have possibly caused. As emphasised by Coates (2011), it is important that researchers are aware of their own preconceptions and strive to ensure that they do not allow them to bias their interpretation of the data.
