This double volume set LNCS 14393-14394 constitutes the proceedings from the workshops held at the 26th International Conference on Medical Image Computing and Computer Assisted Intervention, MICCAI 2023 Workshops, which took place in Vancouver, BC, Canada, in October 2023. The scientific theme of the book is ¿Sustainability for the digital manufacturing erä which is focused on how the technological enablers of digital systems drive the sustainability for products, processes, manufacturing, and logistics systems in the industry of the future. "System change" kann man allenthalben auf den Demos der Klimagerechtigkeitsbewegung hören. Das vorliegende Buch zeigt auf, worin dieser Systemwandel bestehen müsste. Pointiert und mit guten Argumenten macht der Autor deutlich, dass nicht nur der Kapitalismus, sondern auch die Industriegesellschaft, wie wir sie kennen, zur Disposition steht. Echte Klimapolitik darf nicht einfach auf ein technisches Problem reduziert werden. Es geht nicht bloß um einen schnelleren Ausbau erneuerbarer Energien und eine andere Infrastruktur. Eine ökologisch nachhaltige Wirtschaft wird unter dem Strich mit wesentlich weniger Nettoenergie und wesentlich weniger Rohstoffen auskommen müssen. Die Herausforderung für uns lautet: Wie gestalten wir eine solidarische Gesellschaft auf einer deutlich schmaleren materiellen Basis? Menschheitsgeschichtlich betrachtet erweisen sich die kaum drei Jahrhunderte der Industrialisierung als Singularität, die nicht in die Zukunft extrapoliert werden können. Einzig die Rückkehr zum menschlichen Maß weist uns den Weg aus der verhängnisvollen Geschichte des naturzerstörenden Industrialismus. Der Autor zeigt detailliert auf, dass der Ökostrom bei Weitem nicht reicht, dass er das, was uns jetzt noch auf fossiler Basis zur Verfügung steht, keineswegs substituieren kann. Eine Industriegesellschaft auf unserem Niveau lässt sich damit nicht mehr aufrechterhalten. Technische Lösungen, die mit immer mehr Aufwand an Ressourcen einen Ausweg aus unserem Dilemma versprechen (Kernfusion, CO2-Verpressung, Geo-Engineering) entlarvt der Autor als Sackgassen. Ein geplanter Schrumpfungsprozess ist der einzige Ausweg aus der Klimakatastrophe. Angesichts dieser Herausforderung müssen aber rein marktkonforme Instrumente wie Ökosteuern oder Emissionshandel versagen. Der Autor gibt Hinweise auf rasch umzusetzende ordnungspolitische Maßnahmen der "industriellen Abrüstung", auf die es jetzt ankäme. Und er zeigt, wie man das so gestalten kann, dass niemand um seine materielle Existenz bangen muss und dass es gerecht dabei zugeht. Wie aber entfalten wir den nötigen politischen Druck? Kritisch setzt sich der Autor mit dem geforderten "Labour turn" der Klimagerechtigkeitsbewegung auseinander, die den ArbeiterInnen Besitzstandswahrung verspricht. In den reichen Industrieländern kann ökologische Nachhaltigkeit nur Deprivilegierung bedeuten. Erfolgversprechend könnte der Aktionismus des radikalisierten Teils der Klimagerechtigkeitsbewegung sein. Allerdings müssten ihre Aktionen auch einer entsprechend radikalen Vorstellung von der Transformation entsprechen, die uns bevorsteht. Und ihr ziviler Ungehorsam müsste sich mit einer Lebenspraxis verbinden, die sich als Widerstand gegen den herrschenden, systemstabilisierenden Konsumismus begreift.
