  • - Proceedings of the Twelfth International Conference on Tangible, Embedded, and Embodied Interaction
    von Acm Sigchi
    256,00 €

Welcome to ACM TEI'18, the 12th International Conference on Tangible, Embedded and Embodied Interactions, hosted at KTH, Royal Institute of Technology, in Stockholm, Sweden, from the 18th to the 21st of March 2018. This is TEI's first visit to Scandinavia! The TEI conference series is dedicated to issues of human-computer interaction, novel tools and technologies, interactive art, and user experience. This year's conference focuses on the concepts of physical and material interaction through the lens of Post-Digital Design. The digital has become mundane, inseparable from our everyday experiences. In post-digital design we see a turn to vintage materials and craftsmanship, but also to real world circumstances of human bodies on a global scale. Old media and natural materials have regained interest for interaction designers, and traditional practices are being cherished in new ways as part of digital experiences. Designing for the post-digital does not mean blindly embracing nostalgia or turning away from technology - it means embracing a process of design that equalizes the status of digital, analogue, electronic, mechanical and tactile, and that brings focus to form, meaning and function, rather than technicalities. The intimate size of this single-track conference provides a unique forum for exchanging ideas and presenting innovative work through talks, interactive exhibits, demos, hands-on studios, posters, art installations and performances. TEI'18 hosts a four-day program, starting on Sunday March 18th with the Graduate Student Consortium and a series of Studios that engage participants in the concrete making of novel interfaces and interactions. The main program starts with an opening keynote on Monday March 19th, followed by a series of talks on shape changing materials, followed by a hands-on session showcasing Work in Progress demonstrations as well as exemplars from full papers accepted to the proceedings. The Tuesday starts with the remainder of the demonstrations and the Student Design Challenge, this year with a theme of common place, mundane technologies from the future. Paper presentations on technology for children, and Virtual and Augmented reality precede a second session of demos from full paper submissions. The evening of the second day finds the conference in Kulturhuset, Stadsteatern, one of the largest cultural institutions in Northern Europe, for a curated exhibition of art installations and live performances exploring the post-digital. A total of 25 works will be presented over the evening, which is also open to the public. On Wednesday, March 21st, sessions present talks on evaluation and community, followed by a closing panel session.

  • - Proceedings of the 26th Conference on User Modeling, Adaptation and Personalization
    von Umap
    131,00 €

It is our great pleasure to welcome you to the 26th ACM International Conference on User modeling, Adaptation and personalization - UMAP 2018. UMAP is the premier international conference for researchers and practitioners working on systems that adapt to individual users or to groups of users. UMAP is the successor of the biennial User Modeling (UM) and Adaptive Hypermedia and Adaptive Web-based Systems (AH) conferences that were merged in 2009. It has traditionally been organized under the auspices of User Modeling Inc. Since 2016, UMAP is an ACM conference, sponsored by ACM SIGCHI and SIGWEB. UMAP 2018 is a very special conference, as this is the very first time UMAP will be located in Asia! We hope to meet many like-minded researchers from Singapore and other Asian countries. The conference spans a wide scope of topics related to user modeling, adaptation, and personalization. UMAP 2018 is focused on bringing together cutting-edge research from user interaction and modeling, adaptive technologies, and delivery platforms. It includes high-quality peer-reviewed papers featuring substantive new research in one of five research tracks, each chaired by leaders in the field:Adaptive Hypermedia and the Semantic Web (track chairs Peter Brusilovsky and Geert-Jan Houben)Intelligent User interfaces (track chairs Shlomo Berkovsky and Markus Schedl)Personalized Recommender Systems (track chairs Dietmar Jannach and Markus Zanker)Personalized Social Web (track chairs Cecile Paris and Julita Vassileva)Technology-Enhanced Adaptive Learning (track chairs Olga Santos and Carla Limongelli) The call for papers attracted 137 submissions from 33 different countries on all continents except Antarctica: Argentina, Australia, Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, China, Cyprus, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Japan, Netherlands, New Zealand, Nigeria, Norway, Pakistan, Philippines, Portugal, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, South Korea, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, United Kingdom, and the United States The international program committee consisted of 131 reviewers. Each submission received at least 3 reviews. After the initial reviews were submitted, the designated track chairs (TCs) facilitated discussion amongst reviewers in order to resolve differences and correct misunderstandings. The TCs then provided a recommendation to the Program Chairs. The final decisions were based on these recommendations, meta-reviews, and reviewer scores. Moreover, 10 papers were accepted as extended abstracts, and 13 were included in Late Breaking Results track (LBR). We thank Hui Fang and Pasquale Lops, LBR and Demo Chairs, for their efforts on selecting addition papers submitted to this track. As a result, there are 3 Demos, 3 Theory, Opinion and Reflection papers, and 20 Late Breaking Results papers presented in the iv UMAP poster sessions, which collectively showcase the wide spectrum of novel ideas and latest results in user modeling, adaptation and personalization. We also encourage attendees to attend the keynote presentations; these valuable and insightful talks guide us to a better understanding of the future.Running Recommendations: Personalisation Opportunities for Health and Fitness, Barry Smith (University College Dublin, Ireland)Robots that Listen to People's Hearts: the Role of Emotions in the Communication between Humans and Social Robots, Ana Paiva (University of Lisbon, Portugal)Interpreting User Input Intention in Natural Human Co

  • - Proceedings of the 2018 ACM Conference on International Computing Education Research
    von Icer
    106,00 €

We welcome you to the fourteenth annual International Computing Education Research Conference, ICER 2018, sponsored by the ACM Special Interest Group on Computer Science Education (SIGCSE). Espoo, Finland is the host city for this year's conference, with sessions taking place on the Aalto University campus. ICER stands as the premier ACM forum for dissemination and discussion of the latest findings in computing education research across the globe. ICER research papers represent significant, rigorous contributions to the field. One hundred twenty-five research papers were submitted, with twenty-eight papers accepted for publication (a 22% acceptance rate) in the conference proceedings in the ACM Digital Library. All papers were double-blind peer reviewed by three members of the program committee. In addition, each paper received a meta-review by a member of the senior program committee, with the two Program Co-Chairs making final acceptance decisions. In addition to the research paper presentations, ICER includes Lightning Talk and Poster sessions as a way for ICER attendees to present early results, gain feedback from conference attendees, find collaborators on a topic, and/or spark discussion among conference participants. The conference also serves a vital mentoring and advising role for upcoming discipline-based computing education researchers through the Doctoral Consortium. The Work in Progress workshop is a dedicated one-day workshop for ICER attendees to provide and receive friendly, constructive feedback on research during formative stages of development. Associated co-located workshops with external sponsorship at ICER 2018 include Building Your Team of Change Champions and Computing Science Educational Infrastructure: Crossing the Borders. We are honored to welcome Kirsti Lonka, the Professor of Educational Psychology in the Faculty of Education at the University of Helsinki, Finland to present the ICER 2018 keynote address. For the past 30 years, she has been investigating various aspects of learning in higher education, medical education, teacher education, and postgraduate education (PhD students). In the area of academic writing, her work has focused around conceptions of writing, note taking, process writing, portfolios and writing across curriculum (writing as a learning tool). Professor Lonka's keynote, Growing minds - 21st century competences and digitalization among Finnish youth?, discusses her recent research concerning the digital technology background among Finnish school children and its relation to their activities and attitudes. The keynote addresses the intensive reforms, both in research-based teacher education and at school that are going on in Finland. In addition to the new Finnish curricula, the latest developments in education, innovative pedagogical methods, technologies in education and new learning environments will be presented.
