In Puttin' on Ole Massa the noted historian Gilbert Osofsky has edited the autobiographies of Henry Bibb, William Wells Brown, and Solomon Northup that tell of their time as slaves before the Civil War. C. L. (Charles Leonard) Hamblin (1922-1985) received his undergraduate degree in philosophy, mathematics, and physics and an M.A. in philosophy at Monash University. He received a Ph.D. at the London School of Economics in language and information theory.
