It is dedicated to an individual who had a very positive impact on my professional life. The book begins with describing a childhood that began during WWII in extreme poverty and then at the age of 12 immigrating to the US. Became a US citizen and joined the US Navy at 18 and became a Navy Hospital Corpsman (medic). After going to medical X- ray school and working at two US Navy hospitals was transferred to the US Naval Air Facility on the island of Sicily in Italy. Following two tours at Sigonella took a discharge and accepted a civilian position. Shortly after accepting the civilian position a US Navy CDR by the name of Toby Haynsworth took over the Supply Department. Toby had a discussion with me and expressed his concern about my temporary employment status and arranged for me to receive some specialized transportation training and for me to apply for permanent civil service status which I acquired giving me job security. Toby was also a good friend with an American writer who was living in Taormina, Sicily, Eugene Mc Donald Bonner. Mr. Bonner was a North Carolina born-author, composer, music critic, and wayfarer. He also wrote a very interesting book "Roundabout Sicily" describing in detail the history and beauty of this historic island. In addition to publishing a number of songs and chamber works, Mr. Bonner also collaborated with Anatole France to create and opera based upon the Frenchman's comedy "The Man Who Married a Mute" ("Celui Qui Epousa Un Femme Muette"). It was a pleasure meeting and spending time with such an interesting and talented individual.

Many of the security counter measures being leveraged by businesses today simply address the past (trust then verify). These tools advise and protect when issues are detected, then the problems can be addressed. There is often a time lag from identification, addressing the issues, and resolving the actual issues. To understand the overall state of security in an organization there are a considerable number of tools required. For the most part, each of these tools have an application agent to be deployed. The result is often a "one of everything" approach.Zero Trust is a framework not a solution. Zero Trust is a part of an ongoing continuous process improvement plan, and should evolve with the times to deliver true security to an organization. The common thread is the ability to identify known vectors of end user satisfaction or organizational risk to address issues. The comment about "known" vectors is the key - security counter measures can only respond to what is known and understood at a particular moment in time. Risk is a very straightforward concept. Risk is either real or not. Closed Loop Lifecycle Planning© in its research called The Risk Cycle© concluded that risk does not have a "gray" area - something is either a risk or not. Our book has challenged the assumption that there is such a thing as "reasonable risk". The theory of reasonable risk is that businesses and organizations make a conscious decision that a risk is reasonable to take, and then accepts the exposure. Zero Trust would argue that the approach itself is not reasonable.

Lupe Duron Dunn learned through her lengthy teaching career that writing provides a person a sense of self and creates a positive outlet. Her own writing is inspired from viewing the world through colors, movements, people, shapes, and other influences. In a collection of poems, short stories, and essays, Dunn begins with free verse shared to lift spirits and encourage souls while reflecting on past moments, present events, and everything in between including the Navajo people, the beauty of Old Glory, the ravages of time, and the goodness of mankind. In eight short stories, Dunn's characters each reveal a moment when life showed them a new way of viewing their experiences. Dunn concludes by sharing personal essays that detail the emotions that accompany visiting sites of old battles, a novice actor as he struggles to find his way, and much more. The Book shares poetry, short stories, personal essays, and illustrations that transcend culture and time to soothe the soul, provide clarity, and remind of the magic of the pen.

It is the 1940s as Garrison Yokum grows up in Betsy Layne, Kentucky. He enjoys sitting on the back porch with his cousins, watching trains haul coal to big cities, dreaming of what lies beyond the mountains, and traveling along the "big road," also known as US Route 23, with his parents on Saturdays. But when Garrison is seven, work becomes even more difficult, dangerous, and precarious for his coal miner father, setting into motion a chain of events that ultimately leads them to Ann Arbor, Michigan, for a new life. From that point on, Route 23 becomes a focal point in Garrison's life.Decades later and now approaching retirement, Garrison makes another life-changing decision as he nears completion of a documentary on the migration of families from rural east Kentucky to the cities along Route 23. After he sets out on a road trip with his professional photographer granddaughter and two student interns, Garrison explores and captures life along the long, important American highway that helped many families secure better futures beyond the mountains of southern Appalachia. The Big Road is a generational story that documents the experiences of those who migrated from southern Appalachia to bigger cities in the north by way of a memorable American highway.

"A pocketbook of wry" is a third collection of poems from prolific poet/writer B. Germain. This set of 77 poems written under mostly pandemic protocol represents exploration both away from and back to rhyme - in new forms and cryptic styles. The themes of the book center always on purpose, praise and living out the philosophies of our personal preferences - as B. Germain interrogates in almost every poem - the who, whom, what, which, why, when, where and how of a purposeful life.

Over the past 25 years that I have been associated with Scottish heritage events I've witnessed a great deal of effort being expended on refining and defining everything associated with Scottish Clans. However, with a couple of exceptions, little effort seems to have gone into giving the same amount of focus to the identification of surnames associated with Scotland who are not linked to a clan. This has been a problem for those of us who are attempting to help every visitor attending these events find their Scottish connection. Until now there has been little detailed, quality reference materials to adequately help us. A necessary distinction to remember and share is the fact that there is a misperception that Scotland's people are centered strictly around the clan structure. Clans represent less than one third of all the people of Scotland. The non-clan families are city dwellers. They've not declared fealty to a clan chief, but provide goods, services, and labor in the regions in which they reside. The information collected on this portion of Scotland's people comes from various publicly available sources such as Scottish government, regional administration, church (birth, marriage, death), and transportation (deportation) records. Regarding the latter source, there were no restrictions on the transportation of the subjects of England (English, Irish, Scots, Welsh) to the Americas, Caribbean, and Australia. Information extracted from these transportation records focused only on those transported prisoners specifically identified as Scottish. Prisoner transportation records to the Americas spanned the period 1600-1776 while those sent to Australia spanned the period 1776-1830.

Dear Luv Guv: I totally get the mountain you created, walking each step of your daily COVID briefings with you, anticipating and coaching from my love of football, SCUBA Diving, Sea Captain and School of Hard Knocks experiences. I boldly critique your presentations as if you are a Divemaster. Please pardon, but my ideas oft preceded your daily briefings. Sharing this with my long-time friend and confidant via email, we joke, "Just Solving All The World's Problems on Paper". Home during Shelter-In-Place, I finally finish writing novels. You are positively portrayed except for our dads' brash talk, a literary device I created to show New Yorkers, even politicians, are not that different from Midwestern farmers. Don't worry, no one takes anything Dads say about daughter's potential boyfriends seriously. As a Bible student, consider that Dad faults King David, a nearly perfect man in God's eyes. Yes, of David and Goliath fame. On morning strolls on Heaven's outskirts, your dad, the illustrious former Governor, finds my dad who eked his way into Heaven on a loophole I found. In my overactive imagination, our dads talk about our mutual single status. Your dad is intrigued by my ability to talk smack, my figure (always a strength), my brain (particularly in governance), and my knowledge of Football. They meddle, using Divine Intervention Tricks to help us together solve the COVID Crisis. Singles whether city or country, across the entire universe endure matchmaking. Despite all the hoopla and uproar, more unites us all than separates, excluding elitist greed and fear mongering designed to distract and separate Average Americans from money and opportunity. That gets me started down many rabbit holes and frequent laments "Where Have All The Heroes Gone?" P.S, I withhold judgment on your "The Boyfriend" take. I've learned to observe these things first.
