I ask Him to fill me with His Spirit each day, so that I might be an effective witness of His love. Thank you Lord for my precious children and grandchildren you have abundantly blessed me with. Make me a blessing in their lives as well as in the lives of everyone with whom I come in contact. I am ever so grateful for the material possessions you've given me, I am most grateful for the treasure of my family-the only blessings I can take to heaven with me. Father, I want to be a person of my word so that my family can follow my example. Thank You for keeping Your promise to us. I take comfort in the fact that Your word will never fail. As in the first novel it begins prior to the Civil War and into the Reconstruction. In this novel you get a better feeling of what it was like fighting in the war. Then the chaos and the loss of dignity as the southern people try to get their lives together again. In this battle for their lives their salvation was the love shared by the couple, children and friends. Along with the war the reader is taken on their journey to a new life out west.

This is a compelling true story of a young boy born and raised in poverty in Oklahoma. He struggled in school, especially in reading and math. It was his mother who helped him learn reading and math, not his teachers. Fighting in order to protect himself resulted in several "paddling's" and other disciplinary actions at school. Facing the possibility of being sent to a delinquent home for boys, he devised a plan where he would catch a train going north with King, a dog, who he promised would never be a stray dog again. He had even practiced jumping a boxcar while the train was moving! He would miss his family, but he was not going to the place for delinquent boys.
