Co-hosted by AusIMM and CSIRO, the Iron Ore Conference 2023 explores the latest developments and addresses challenges impacting the technical and management aspects of the iron ore industry. Key discussion points include genesis, geology, exploration, mining and processing of iron ores, and bringing solutions to address the carbon footprint of iron and steel mining.

Since 2012, Life of Mine has sought to promote holistic thinking across all aspects of a mine's life cycle. This edition further strengthens this vision, with the most extensive program to date including over 40 technical presentations. This reflects the recent growing activity and interest in this space, driven by regulatory landscape changes and associated responses from industry and researchers. The conference proceedings showcases examples and case studies of applying interdisciplinary approaches that enhance outcomes, increase efficiencies and improve effectiveness to address current and future challenges facing the industry. These challenges include increasing cost and production pressures, ever-demanding technical factors, and increasing societal and community expectations.

Exploring all aspects of mine waste and tailings management.The 2023 Mine Waste and Tailings Conference, co-hosted by AusIMM and The University of Queensland, welcomed delegates from across the globe to explore all aspects of life cycle waste rock and tailings management, from site selection and design to post-closure care, and also addressed current and future challenges impacting mining systems re-engineering.The conference proceedings centre around the demand of innovation and evolution of mine waste and tailings management through the key themes of: commingling of tailings and coarse wastes; emergency response; geochemical and geotechnical testing of mine wastes; governance and standards; importance of site climatic, topographic, seismic and social settings; innovative mine waste management; licence to operate; mine closure; monitoring and surveillance; operational aspects and case histories; selection of parameters for TSF and WRD design; tailings dam breach and runout assessment; tailings dewatering and placement; tailings liquefaction and seismic response; water and AMD management.

AusIMM's Underground Operators Conference 2023, the premier underground mining conference brought mining industry professionals the opportunity to see industry leading speakers, including keynotes from Corrie Pitzer, Joe Luxford and Jo-Anne Dudley.Key discussion topics for 2023 centred around the evolution of digital technologies, automation and artificial intelligence, and how these innovations are making it possible to mine at greater depths and lower grades.This included key themes around case studies and operating practice, technology and innovation, collaboration, feasibility studies and mine design, health and safety and navigating social licenses.

The aim of the conference was to improve the health and safety of Australian mine workers and to willingly share the wide range of expertise that resides amongst our engineering professionals, researchers and academics. The proceedings of the 2019 Australian Mine Ventilation Conference focuses on the theme of 'Managing Ventilation Risk'. The main topics of this conference encapsulate various direct and indirect elements of metal and coal mine ventilation planning and case studies; main and booster fans; numerical modelling and integration with planning and remote monitoring; occupational health hazard monitoring and management (mine gases, dust, DPM, radioactive dust); heat and refrigeration; prevention of methane, coal and sulfide dust explosions; prevention and fighting of mine fires; detection and control of spontaneous combustion; ventilation monitoring and control; mining regulations, including principle hazard management plans; understanding radiation; and seal-up management.

This volume, written by Brian Hall, presents an in-depth look at an integral part of mining strategy optimisation - cut-off specification. The publication builds a thorough understanding of cut-offs, covering simple concepts along with the more complex and comprehensive models of cut-off theory and evaluation practices. The first section of the volume addresses the principles underlying the more complex approaches to strategy optimisation; whilst the second section deals with the finer details of conducting evaluations.
