This aviation/travel journal is an account of the author's experiences in 59 years of travelling the globe. His half-Scottish roots may have something to do with his yearning for a desire to visit a number of cold-weather countries that many of us might stay away from, but might like to read about! There are some tropical visits and temperate ones too, but the latest tally has been 21 landings or take-offs within the Arctic Circle, and photos included in the book show Greenland, Iceland, Faroes, Svalbard (sometimes called Spitzbergen), The Falklands and Antarctica amongst others, but there are some in warmer temperature zones! Over those years of travel 124 separate trips have been made involving over 450 different flights. In the early years, many were propeller aircraft and then later jet transport but over that period 64 different types have been flown, and each is supported in the book by brief technical notes and a photo. The author's work in airline operations and then later in the travel agency sector allowed him the opportunity to extensively travel the world and see these sights. Later in retirement, the travel bug has continued. Interspersed into the timeline of the book is the author's autobiography of his time spent in the three countries he has lived in during his working life.

Africa remains a continent that is yet to achieve its full potentials, despite an abundance of resources and a rich cultural pedigree. There have been various attempts to dissect the impediments to the continent's progress in its march towards development and true independence. Consequently, this book moves away from mere identification of challenges to proffering solutions. The ideas put forward about African development in this book draw from a multiplicity of backgrounds. They are also offered through the prism of the lived experiences of contributors who are keen on engendering an African solution that weaves global dynamics into Africa's cultural context and did not shy away from identifying themselves as global citizens from Africa. The compelling read is a critical appraisal of germane issues in Africa's quest for development which speaks truth to both the powerful and the powerless within and beyond Africa on why prioritising Africa's development is as pressing as the Global climate catastrophe.

Andrew Glen was born in Scotland and emigrated to Canada in 1912. Initially he worked as an engineer in Toronto, but in 1923 bought a small farm on the outskirts of Pickering. He continued to work on the land for the remainder of his active life and for a period in the 1930's he contributed a regular column to the 'Toronto Star'. He recorded his detailed observations of the changing seasons and farming activities related to the time of year. This book presents a selection of these rural essays, originally written between 1931 and 1938. As social history, these essays presented a vivid picture of a way of life unfamiliar to city dwellers at that time, and now provide a reminder of farming skills, implements such as 'The Old Binder', and procedures no longer witnessed by current country folk. His descriptive skills were extended to his animals and we meet amongst others 'Trotsky the Pup', The Crazy Cow' and 'Lazy Lou', one of his horses. Many of the articles contain a sprinkling of philosophy and politics. Andrew and his wife Dorothy had been staunch members of the Toronto Labour party and he became one of the founder members of the Co-operative Commonwealth Federation (CCF) in 1932, precursor to the National Democratic Party of Canada. This amalgam of talents and interests resulted in his ability to link up the moods of nature with his own hopes and aspirations for the future.

We are different in many aspects, including our appearance, personality, interests. Our home planet Earth is full of various kinds of flowers, fruits, animals. Our equipment, utensils, playthings, and movies we see vary. The world deprived of such variety is monotonous and intolerable. The obvious diversity all around the world gives beauty to our life. The idea for the current book is taken from the field of biodiversity, which refers to the various kinds of living species, including plants, animals, fungi, and bacteria on our home planet earth. Scientists estimate that the total number of species of land plants should be more than 450,000. There are about two million species of animals, most of which are insects. Scientists declare that more than two million marine species exist. It is noteworthy that the earth's biodiversity is so rich that many species on land and the seas have yet to be discovered. We Are Different shows the importance and necessity of this variety with attractive pictures. Unfortunately, the magical earth's biodiversity is seriously at risk because of harmful activities human. I hope one day all humans learn to respect living organisms and have a concern about the environment, ecosystem, and biodiversity.

In Full Circle: Memoir of A Vietnamese-Canadian Librarian, Vinh-The Lam tells the story of his journey from American-trained librarian in South Vietnam to Librarian Emeritus in Canada. After becoming the first US-educated President of the Vietnamese Library Association (VLA) in 1974, Lam worked alongside a team of fellow American-trained librarians to modernize and expand the South Vietnamese library system. He even founded the country's first library science department at V¿n H¿nh University. But after the fall of South Vietnam in 1975, the VLA and all of Lam's achievements were lost. He spent the next six years in poverty, before emigrating to Canada in 1981 and rebuilding his life and career. With a new start in North America, Lam made valuable contributions to the library community, eventually retiring as Librarian Emeritus from the University of Saskatchewan in 2006. When Vietnam appealed to overseas intellectuals to return and help the country move forward in the aftermath of the collapse of the Communist system, Lam and his former VLA team answered the call, ready to help Vietnam thrive in a new era of innovation and progress. This is the personal memoir of Lam's full journey, from Vietnam to Canada and back again.

Poems and illustrations from childhood can have memorable images and sounds which stay with us for a lifetime. Some of the poems have a spiritual quality; a sense of morality and highlight the importance of spending time with loved ones. They also emphasise the value of 'small things' and nature. Young people can often express wisdom beyond their years.Naturalistic illustrations are used in contrast to the familiar, brightly coloured, naïve drawings that are currently popular. The gentle calming images aim to complement and reflect the thought-provoking poetry making it suitable for bedtime reading. Either one or more poems can be read depending on time available, age or concentration of the child. Some illustrations are based on observations from nature and firsthand experiences, in and around the southwest of England. In contrast, there is an introduction to wild animals not native to the UK, i.e., elephant, sea eagle and giraffe. Some of the poems aim to encourage children to enjoy and engage with nature and increase their knowledge (i.e., factual inserts in text). It has been noted that children, in general, lack knowledge and experience of the natural world, unlike their predecessors. By seeking to introduce children to nature, outdoor interests, and experiences, it is hoped this in some way may go towards counteracting a sedentary lifestyle and avoid associated health problems. The book looks to encourage adults and children to read together; to discuss, to observe and explore questions that may arise.Information boxes give factual information about nature, animals, and plants to complement the poems.

X in Provence is a novel about obsession, betrayal and survival set in a place that normally conjures up paradise.Soon after English journalist Rai leaves a thriving career in Hong Kong to live with Alain, a brilliant French sculptor in Provence, she is delighted to discover la dolce vita. But she also encounters a darker demimonde - the sex-sodden underbelly of this region of southern France. Call it the 'other' Provence. Rai is captivated by the novelty of it all and the loving reassurances of her charmer beau and is thrilled when he proposes. After marriage, however, Alain turns chilling, and conflict ignites between Rai's intellect and her internal dysfunctions - a treacherous teetering depicted with stark clarity. Alain has a brother - two if you count the dead one - and the dynamics between these divergent characters deepen the plot. The novel offers a new take on an age-old theme: the perils of addiction to highly charismatic, highly narcissistic personalities and what women will do to cling on. Combining splashes of erotica, psychological suspense, mystery and wanderlust, X in Provence is women's fiction at its gripping best.
