I stood in front of the headstone which read 'Rita Rocca Nee Tomlin (15/6/1942 - 21/10/2020)' and thought, 'Is this all there is? Her name on a headstone with mine to follow.' I remembered a warm May Day in 1948, when we both kneeled at the same altar waiting for a priest to give us our first taste of Jesus. She, in her white dress, was wondering if the day would yield enough for a new doll and pram, while I wondered if mine would yield enough for roller skates and maybe a new football. I recalled the honeymoon in Jersey in 1963, Miss World at the Royal Albert Hall in 1980, and the ball that followed at the Savoy Hotel. I said, "Sorry girl, I can't give you a Taj Mahal, but I will write a book, which will hopefully make us more than just names on a tombstone."

Roberta Albrecht has discovered an adept way to transform fiction into truth. This book is three decades of my clinical work in one fictitious story. It is based on the marginalization of deaf individuals and is about Mary, a hearing child born to deaf parents. The difference however is that Mary is the outsider as the majority of the world is deaf. The story of my love was written in the form of poetry. My wife passed away on June 8, 2019. The many love poems were written for people who lost their loved ones, young lovers, and most of all it's a journey for dreamers. When you read my poems of love, you will be looking into the essence of my life.

It is my heartfelt prayer that through these writings the reader will find peace, comfort, and resolution for the many struggles, pains, and difficulties faced in life. May you be embraced and empowered by God's presence as you indulge in the healing words expressed and captured by my life's experiences. May you be rescued from the insecurities and challenges you face, learn to focus, and gain knowledge, and to be wise, prudent, compassionate, and understanding of others. May you reach your goals and fulfil your destiny. May you be led by the Holy Spirit, be renewed with a willing desire to serve your life's purpose. May love and faith be ignited in your soul as you encounter the true meaning of Christ in your life.
