In the 15th century, mariners established their location using ¿dead reckoning,¿ a technique that used superstition, experience, and some guesswork to determine the position of a ship at sea. Ships, cargos, and lives by the thousands were lost because of inadequate navigation techniques and instruments. This study focuses on two pivotal, simultaneous revolutions in the Age of Exploration. First, navigators had to move away from experience-only to extensive scientific training. Second, navigation instruments were invented, developed, and/or refined to provide accurate readings capable of providing useful global positioning information. These factors combined to produce an explosion of exploration that took mariners to the far corners of the planet, impacting governments and geosciences, astronomy and academics. To under­stand this revolution better, we take a closer look at navigation during the 1686 LaSalle expedition to Texas, particularly a unique nocturnal/planisphere, one of only four in existence worldwide and so accurate it can still be used today. Im Rahmen dieser Arbeit soll eine Standortbestimmung der Stadt Aalen und der Region Ostalb als Destination für Gesundheitstourismus im Allgemeinen und für Nachfrager ¿barrierefreier Touristikangebote¿ im Besonderen vorgenommen werden.

Revision with unchanged content. "Present words as spoken text rather than printed text" is a common recommendation for designing multimedia instructions. The book takes a closer look at this recommendation by raising two questions: (1) How do learners distribute their visual attention during multimedia learning? And (2) which design features moderate effects of text presentation on perception and comprehension? The results of five empirical studies suggest that spoken text is only preferable under particular constraints. The learners' viewing behavior ¿ observed via eye tracking ¿ revealed a general preference for printed text that is distracted by particular design features. Once learners are relieved from time constrained presentation or from following motion in a dynamic visualization, the need to split visual attention between printed text and visualizations loses much of its impact. Understanding the demands of a learning material on the learner's perception and accounting for individual reading behavior by implementing user interaction appears promising to advance the design of multimedia instructions in a learner-supporting fashion.

Besonders Kinder, die mit einem erkrankten Elternteil aufwachsen, treten oft erst dann in Erscheinung, wenn sie selbst auffällig werden. Dabei sind diese Kinder in vielfältiger Weise von der Krankheit der Eltern betroffen. Dieses Buch geht der Frage nach, welche Erfahrungen Kinder mit einem seelisch erkrankten Elternteil machen, und wie sich diese auf ihr weiteres Leben auswirken. Den Hauptteil nehmen hierbei zwei narrative Interviews ein ¿ geführt mit jungen Frauen, die selbst psychisch erkrankt und mit einem psychisch kranken Elternteil aufgewachsen sind. Durch die Analyse der beiden Erzählungen gelingt es der Autorin, individuelle Bewältigungsstrategien sichtbar zu machen. Darüber hinaus werden Momente der Rekonstruktion eigener gelebter Geschichte nachvollziehbar. Schwerpunkt dabei ist, welche Verbindungen die beiden Betroffenen zwischen ihrer Krankheit und der Krankheit der Eltern knüpfen. Das Buch richtet sich nicht nur an Studierende der Biographieforschung sondern an Interessierte aus allen Bereichen, die einen Einblick in Lebenswelten von Betroffenen bekommen, und teilnehmen möchten an Erzählungen aus einer "ver-rückten" Welt. Auch liefert das Buch einen Beitrag zum hermeneutischen Fallverstehen.

Voice teachers and vocal pedagogical literature cite verbal imagery, e.g. ¿sing as if you are biting an apple¿, as a commonly used teaching tool for convey­ing desirable physical sensations, musical interpretations, concepts of vocal production and appropriate vocal quality. While both practitioners and re­searchers consider verbal imageries to be a fundamental means of communi­cation in contemporary vocal pedagogy, there apparently is no identified systematic research on verbal imagery in this field. The purpose of this study is to examinie the role and efficacy of verbal imagery in vocal pedagogy based on the use of observations and interviews of selected voice teachers and computer vocal analysis of selected undergraduate vocal students. Utilizing these two seemingly disparate research approches offers the advantages of obtaining data and insights based on the pedagogical wisdom and practical experience of voice teachers along with the technical objectivity of computer vocal analysis. The book is addressed to voice teachers and students, vocal coaches and general music educators. It is also aimed towards researchers in vocal pedagogy, music education and psychology of learning.
