This deep interrelationship between the students and teachers creates wonders. Depiction of the stories of sacrifice, struggle and success of the teachers and students through any written document like a book can boost the morale of good students and teachers, motivate the newly inducted students and teachers to deliver their best and become role models for others. The present anthology of stories, mostly set in rural scenario of Odisha, India, is a humble attempt to connect the experiences of fourteen characters into an organic whole and present a kaleidoscope of emotions, feelings and thoughts rooted in school life. While trying to teach the learners how to connect or add the alphabets in learning a language, teachers train them to be architects of their own lives, connect the events in their lives and create a successful whole. The events depicted in the stories are a blend of some real life experiences and fictional narratives but the characters very much resemble the people we meet in the schools every day. Each reader will surely find something common with one of these characters and identify himself/herself with them. Most importantly, each story tries to convey a strong message to the society which a sensible reader would never miss. The poet Kabir, a selection from whose songs is here for the first time offered to English readers, is one of the most interesting personalities in the history of Indian mysticism. Born in or near Benares, of Mohammedan parents, and probably about the year 1440, he became in early life a disciple of the celebrated Hindu ascetic Ramananda. Ramananda had brought to Northern India the religious revival which Ramanuja, the great twelfth-century reformer of Brahmanism, had initiated in the South. This revival was in part a reaction against the increasing formalism of the orthodox cult, in part an assertion of the demands of the heart as against the intense intellectualism of the Vedanta philosophy, the exaggerated monism which that philosophy proclaimed. It took in Ramanuja's preaching the form of an ardent personal devotion to the God Vishnu, as representing the personal aspect of the Divine Nature: that mystical "religion of love" which everywhere makes its appearance at a certain level of spiritual culture, and which creeds and philosophies are powerless to kill.

Sahitya Akademi award winning book, Relationship is a trend setter that takes us back to the time of making of the canon in Indian English poetry-- how Indian English poetry evolved in and around Jayanta Mahapatra who arrived in the poetry scene in 1971 with the title, Close the Sky Ten by Ten. In the 1970s his poems were published in major poetry journals in the world and he earned accolades from different shores. During the 1970s Jayanta was invited to read poems from many important places including, University of Iowa, Iowa City, 1976, University of Tennessee, Chattanooga, 1976, University of the South, Sewanee, 1976, East West Center, Honolulu, Hawaii, 1976, P.E.N. Centre, Sydney, 1978 and Australian National University, Canberra, 1978. These made valuable grounds for making him a significant poetic voice in the decades to come. A Rain of Rites appeared from the University of Georgia Press, USA in 1976. Vernon Young praised the work in The Hudson Review, and later Emily Grosholz reviewed both Relationship and The False Start in the same New York journal. Poetry (Chicago) published a review of his books and it was done by the poet Dick Allen. His publications were noticed by Paul Engle, poet and Director of the International Writing Program in Iowa, and he invited Jayanta to be a participating poet from India for 1976. It was a significant phase for Jayanta , 1975-1976, because it coincided with the publication of his collection of poems, A Rain of Rites, from the University of Georgia Press, Athens, USA. During these days his manuscript was chosen from among the many poetry manuscripts submitted to the University by the final reader and editor, George Core, who is ,and has been the Editor of the literary quarterly, The Sewanee Review. This collection of English poems, 'The Butterfly of the Cage', the second transcreation by the author himself from his original Odia poetry collection 'Panjurira Prajapati' is based on varied themes and thoughts like human desire and despair, agony and aspiration, emotion and passion, rejoice and sorrow, love and hatred, belief and betrayal, sweet and sour memories, satire and irony, delusion and illusion, splendour of the nature, the philosophy of life, death and time, the untouched layers of human behaviour and instinct, apprehension for the uncertain future of man and environment due to anthropogenic activities, and even poetic representation of some scientific phenomena which rarely finds its place in poetry. Its 'Prologue' depicts an introduction to Poetry, English Poetry and Indian English Poetry which is no less than a research paper and a must read. The book is dedicated to eminent Indian poet Padma Shri Dr. Jayanta Mahapatra who passed away on August 27th, 2023.

Gunen Sarkar, a riot victim, comes to Assam in 1964 as a refugee from East Pakistan. He is separated from his wife, son, and one-year-old daughter in a forest. He settles in a small village. Despite his poverty and adverse situations, he never stops searching for his family.
