My emotional handicaps struck the week before my senior year of high school. This was at a time when "e;Special Education"e; was not established. Mental illness was not a comfortable topic, especially in a Christian home. In this book, my method is to take the reader with me into my struggles, disappointments, and failures in higher education and how I overcame them. As I built skills with troubled teens, I added education from a Christian university that gave me more than adequate tools to teach some of the most difficult to manage students. Limitations in this kind of writing are describing how I dealt with challenges in my classroom without noting research-based methods or other sources. My memoirs here as a handicapped student improperly diagnosed for many years will be of value to parents wrestling with similar problems. Included in the memoir are many scenarios from my classroom in which I modeled successful responses to situations and explained why; I also offered usable innovations that your teacher will find helpful.

Musings of a Preacher's SonLife is so precious yet unpredictable. No matter what education or background we come from, none of us knows how our lives will evolve. I never thought I would write poetry, but at fifty-five, I became a poet. The wisdom acquired through my life's experiences forms the prelude for my interest in writing these poems that reflect my life as the son of a priest, a Christian, a father, a husband, and a practicing lawyer. Some of my musings are inspired by being raised in a large and colorful Greek-American family. My observations about people, religion, nature, the world, love, and life are reflected in my writings. No matter who we are, we are shaped by our parents, our environment, our culture, and our upbringing. We all want the same comforts in life; and we all show our weaknesses and strengths through our passions, prejudices, and talents. I hope one or more of these poems speaks to you in some small way.

This writing shares portions of my devotional journaling with you the reader. I continue to be amazed about reading the Word of God and how it continues to speak and teach on God's plan for life in this world. As well the Word teaches, heals and meets needs timely and at times when I'm not aware of my own needs. When asking someone why they hold a political or social justice belief, they often are at a loss to defend it. We need articulate defenders of the biblical justice agenda. As people of faith, more of us should be able to explain why we reach out to others to assist during times of need or at times when they cannot speak up for themselves. This is the example set for us through the ministry of our Old Testament prophets and New Testament Jesus. Lay people often want to get right to the point and not always have to wade through the academic jargon of the various religious disciplines. My volume gives them some examples of how certain scripture, once it is employed, was and is used to support the mandate to "e;feed the hungry, clothe the naked, heal the sick, and set free the captives"e; and that the nations will be judged by the way they treat the "e;least of those among us."e; The volume has real world applications. Justice can be done through direct service; education about the issues; or systemic advocacy as shown here.

Don't be fooled by all the different stories about Christmas. It's because the real Christmas story has been under attack. As innocent as it seems, we are in a battle. The battle is not over entertaining our children with stories that make up the Christmas season. It's over making sure our children understand there is only one real Christmas story, and how can we tell a story if we don't include the ending. Jesus did come into the world as a baby, but he left as our savior. I'm not trying to take away all the stories told about Christmas; I'm just trying to tell the greatest story ever told. And it's not even my story"e;"e;it's God's story about how much he loves us and what he did to prove it. It is my hope that all children will know the real Christmas story.

From Alcatraz to Africa is the amazing story of the Konnerup family who were pioneer missionaries in East Africa. It is the story of how two young people from different settings came to Jesus, met each other, and together answered the call of God to be missionaries in Ethiopia. Many of us think we know what the price system is, and because of this, we do not take the time to explore it to any real depth. This one mistake is perhaps the biggest reason our economy is in such bad shape. It is the reason countries around the world have the economic hardship that they face today. You can do something to help the world dig itself out from under these problems. It is said that knowing about a problem is the first step in resolving that problem. Knowing about the price system could save your economic life, your family's future, and perhaps even the planet. These are big claims, and it is hard to believe that the price system could be threatening all of these things. This book addresses those claims in a way that is easy for the reader to follow. I had no idea of the direction my life would take when we brought home our Labrador retriever puppy. I had no plans of being involved in any American Kennel Club activities or in breeding. I grew up as a city girl who loved music. Who knew I'd be smitten by a puppy and the direction of my life would be changed forever? All the joys and tears are worth my journey to MacHaven.

After being laid off after many years of devoted service for the second time, I knew that God had a plan, and I turned it all over to him. This was a far cry from my reaction to the first layoff. I prayed a lot but was devastated, worried constantly, and my self-esteem was low. God still answered my prayers, and I found another job in the same field the same week my severance pay ended. When I was laid off again after almost eight years, I knew God was in control. Even though I was almost sixty, and the unemployment level was at the highest, I felt God's peace. I now had the time to "e;stop and smell the roses,"e; as they say. This collection of poems, prayers, and reflections came about from my desire to get closer to God and to try to really listen to what he has to say to me.
