The enemy or Satan lies to everyone, especially nonbelievers of Jesus Christ. From firsthand experience, stop listening to the enemy! The enemy lied and deceived me my entire life. I don't want this to happen to you. These lies just don't come from him; he uses people in your life, such as people in school, coaches, and even family members, to deceive and lie to you. Don't fall for it. The thief's purpose is to steal, kill, and destroy (John 10:10). I got sick and tired of being angry all the time. I knew I needed to change because if I didn't, my life wouldn't be worth living anymore. I needed peace and joy in my life. I was tired of hurting the loved ones around me because of my attitude. After giving my life to Christ in 2008, He helped me and, still to this day, helps me heal day by day. It's all about forgiving yourself and allowing Jesus to work inside of you. Our Jesus helps me to heal through scripture and dreams. I went to plenty of therapists, and they never helped me. Don't let your pride prevent you from letting Jesus heal you. Don't think you're too tough for Jesus. Jesus never tapped out or gave up on us, so why should you give up on yourself? Grow closer to Jesus, and He will grow closer to you. Jesus's door is always open; have the guts to cross the threshold! He is waiting for you and wants a relationship with you. You have nothing to lose. Give your burdens over to Jesus, and quit having the enemy lie to you as he lied to me.

I hope the readers of my story will benefit from seeing a glimpse of how growing up poor can mold a person, as well as facing challenges in life. Working hard may be new to the current generation, at least not most had it the way I did growing up. It takes hard work to succeed in life. Hard work is honorable and builds character. The Bible says in Colossians 3:23, "Whatsoever you do, do it heartily as unto the Lord." In 2 Thessalonians 3:10, it says, "If any man will not work, neither should he be allowed to eat."I also hope that when people have problems and hardships, they will have a positive attitude, that they will persevere and work through it and not give up. I believe that after reading this book, they will be more appreciative of what they have when seeing what life is like for the poor and that you don't have to stay poor. There are so many opportunities to be prosperous in this country if you set your mind to it and work for it. Also, pay as you go and stay out of debt as much as possible. Be honest when dealing with people. Also, try to pay your bills on time and do unto others as you'd have them do to you. Treat others as you would like them to treat you--with love and kindness. There is an old tale worth mentioning and pondering further that goes like this:Tale of Two WolvesA wise elder Cherokee told his grandson, "My son, there is a battle between two wolves inside us all. One is Evil. It is anger, jealousy, greed, resentment, inferiority, lies, and ego. The other is Good. It is joy, peace, love, hope, humility, kindness, empathy, and truth."The boy thought about it and asked, "Grandfather, which wolf wins?"The old man quietly replied, "The one you feed."We all have this dichotomous struggle that occurs daily. Which wolf do you choose to feed? Can you open your heart and your personal belief system to practice the good? These are the things I learned along the way. I'm still learning, so keep me in your prayers, and I hope, with the Lord by your side, you will also learn to fly.

Life is just a series of short stories, and every decision you make becomes part of your story. When in the moment, will you choose faith over fear or fear over faith? But what happened next put her faith to the test, more so than the previous trials. How do you keep having faith when you are caught in a "storm?" Conversations with Colton will explore just that! Colton survived despite what doctors said, and conversations with him have made all the fear, faith, and doubt that got to this moment 100 percent worth it.

Are you so rich in joy? Leaps of Faith, Leaps for Joy is an impactful generational connection of an unstoppable joyous faith. The author gravitates our focus to a good understanding of unspeakable joy found between Deborah with Jael and Elizabeth with Mary. It is our obedience by faith that urges an advance to hope for all things and believes in all things. Experiencing unspeakable joy is a lifestyle of being jolly grateful resting in God's assurance. Joy must not be seasonal. Paul, the apostle of Jesus Christ, makes a significant statement, addressing today's society. His prolific message "Forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead, I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus" has impacted generations before us and changes you and me to not only fuel our faith in joy, but also to elevate a genuine faith on fire to impact the next generation. The author challenges readers that joy doesn't know status but a determined heart willing to share gladness wherever they go. Joy must be contagious to everyone that comes in close proximity with us. We give the matter that we are wealthy with. Do you want to experience unspeakable joy? The joy that brings tears of peace whenever you embrace someone or pray over them? Unspeakable joy announces our presence, yet it cannot be contained for joy is immeasurable. Joy is a catalyst of courage, meant to be shared to the world to strengthen and comfort people in moments of need and despair. Get up and leap your faith with joyous leaps knowing nothing is impossible to God. If we can still exercise the air in our lungs, we must ever be hopeful in life's uncertainty. Why? We have great hope in Christ Jesus, who is the source of joy.

Since the start of time, man has been searching for ways to live a productive and meaningful life. Everyone goes through this thought process, either consciously or subconsciously. The key to finding that answer is to begin asking the right questions. A great starting point for asking the right questions is a question I asked myself thirty years ago. That question was, What are my core values, principles, or beliefs? In other words, what is truly important to me. I simplified that question to this--What do I believe? Going through answering that question led to the creation of my personal I Believe list. This was by far one of the most meaningful and life-changing experiences in my life. My only regret is I didn't ask that question till I was forty-four. Regardless of your age, asking the question (What do I believe?) and creating your personal I Believe list will be one of the most important questions and activities you can do to position yourself to living the productive and meaningful life we all long for.The Question: A Guide to Answering Life's Most Important Question shares my journey of answering that question and then how I used my responses to guide me on each day's adventure called life.

"Therefore shall a man leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and they shall become one flesh" (Genesis 2:24 NKJV).The idea of finding a life partner and becoming one with that person is God's plan, but He has given us the freedom to choose the person with whom we desire to share our lives. The issue gets tricky when we take that freedom literally and leave God out of the process of searching for that significant other.Ms. Sandra has laid out in Whom Should I Marry a guide for those who, at this time, are at that stage of finding a spouse. And her treatise has very well stated the wisdom in seeking God's help and guidance during that process. If you are in that group, consider the wisdom of this book to guide you through the process. Using the teaching and guidance in this book, you will meet that rightful person that God Himself has chosen, and your marriage life will be peaceful and blissful. That is what God has planned for the institution of marriage that He has set up for all to enjoy.

A little girl stares with amazement at the big city while she grasps her grandfather's hand...A little boy watches his grandmother struggle to collect firewood with only one good leg and an old chair for balance...A modern Cinderella story about a pretty young girl with childhood dreams and an innocent heart. A handsome young man with a drive for the wild side and a passion for living life to the fullest. Can two young lives so completely opposite of each other form a lasting relationship? This true love story is presented in its rawest, most unedited form through the memoirs of two individuals destined to meet and fall in love.*****I very much enjoyed this book. It takes you back to a time when America seemed a little less crazy, a little more pure. And yet at the heart of it is finding that lifelong love from the perspective of her and him. That love, as wholesome as apple pie, is not defined by time or era, making the book as relevant today as in the period it was written. A wonderful read.--MargieI could easily identify with the characters as I remembered my first date with my husband. It is truly love that brought them together in this story of faith, love, and passion.--Kathy ChappellWonderful book as I know the author. I loved reading about her and her husband's childhood and their relationship. Excellent read!--Connie Lucas

They were turbulent years, the ones following America's Civil War. The emancipation of those held in slavery opened new ministry opportunities for Northern churches. Previously blocked from reaching any held as slaves, they now were free to preach the Good News to the poor, helping "bind up the nation's wounds." They did their best to follow the Lord's example--setting prisoners free, releasing the oppressed, and especially as Adventists, proclaiming the year of the Lord's favor.Individuals discovered within this new mission field, the Freedmen, willingly came to hear the Word of the Lord proclaimed. Among their many physical and spiritual needs, one request arose high above all others. The Freedmen wanted to read. That privilege had been vigorously denied in the past, but now, with freedom a reality--they wanted schools. Many had the noblest of reasons. Having heard preaching and teaching from the Bible all their lives, they now wanted to read those words on their own. Others wanted an education to help secure the new liberties coming their way.Northern churches sent more preachers than teachers, yet schools were established. While teaching the new converts to read the Bible, missionaries were pressed to go beyond that introductory level. However, churches on the home front seldom saw the need for expensive schools and only reluctantly supported anything beyond the preaching ministry.Meanwhile, the surrounding White community was strongly opposed to any schooling at all. Teachers were threatened, housing denied, and some schools burned to the ground.Missionaries stood in the middle, seeking to please both the sending churches and the Black Freedmen, while maintaining peace within an oftentimes hostile community. They were overworked, financially under-supported, and all suffered from "burnout"; a few even paid the ultimate sacrifice. Yet many individual lives were wondrously transformed as they participated in this most high and noble Christian mission.

Pleasant Hill Baptist Church was the center of life and culture for a few hardworking and tough minded African American families in the Mississippi backwoods. Grandma Brillie with her brood of gun-toting sons were at church every Sunday as she paraded down the isle of the old wooden church. Right outside, the Perkins boys were gambling and selling moonshine to sinners and saints alike. Follow these families onto the back roads, into the juke joints, and revivals as they try to carve out a living in a time where just walking on the sidewalk next to someone White could get you thrown in jail.

Are you feeling overwhelmed and defeated? Have you lost hope? Perhaps in your despair your heart emits a plea for help, aware you need a power beyond your ability to overcome. Our human abilities limit achievement, but faith connects us to the unlimited resources and ability of God. He is the greater, almighty, and gracious one who has put faith in our hearts that we may know Him and turn to Him in troubled times.Nuggets of Grace, birthed in despair, points us to this God of grace. Its poems and reflections celebrate Jesus and His love as desirable, inspiring, and compelling antidotes to despair and sin in the human heart. Amid competing influences of culture and religion in the world, they invite and encourage us to look to Jesus as the way to strengthen the inner life.To look is to center our thoughts on God, to posture ourselves before Him each day in prayer and praise, and meditation on His Word, as we listen for His voice and direction in our hearts. In such discipline and surrender will God's grace for every trial flow to us by the Holy Spirit. God will comfort. He will draw near to us, and our joy will arise. As I looked in faith, believing, God healed my body and mind. He lifted my head. Like a wilted flower that had been given a drink of water and now rises to face the sun, so my head rose again. Then He told me to go and live.Joy and the grace of God are the important themes of the book. The source of our joy and fulfillment is the living God, who wants us to overcome. He wants to pour out grace on us and write a story on our hearts. It is our testimony as living witnesses to His life, His power, and His love.

Few have ever known the honor and mystique of growing up in the virgin Amazon rainforest. In the late 1950s, Paul Johnson's family of six chose to leave the comforts of Canada to disappear into stark isolation, three weeks travel by dugout canoe from the last outpost of Bolivian civilization. Survival was precarious due to unending encounters with the anaconda, jaguar, crocodile, and an unknown hostile tribe.History shamefully confirms that so-called civilization conquered or annihilated many original Amazonian cultures. Even so, dozens of remote indigenous nations remained hidden in the vast jungle encompassing an area larger than the continental USA. The family's hope was to befriend and respect one of those tribes, equipping them holistically to face the onslaught that would inevitably invade their pristine world. For Paul's family, learning to thrive involved harvesting the bounty of the jungle, carving out a primitive base camp on the riverbank, and tolerating a multitude of insects, intense heat, and fatal tropical diseases. After three years of unimaginable sacrifice, confidence was finally earned with a Stone Age people group, ushering in a tenuous first contact. As book 1 of a trilogy of Rain Forest Memoirs, this narrative highlights the intentions and unrestrained power of God, as played out in the lives of a few ordinary messengers. Faith brought them to the forest. Perseverance kept them there. Peace that surpassed understanding sustained them throughout innumerable trials. Their legacy imparts compelling purpose and destiny for those yearning for far more in life today.

Everything in life goes through a process. A baby grows in their mother's womb, a seed is planted in the soil, and diamonds are made from the pressure found deep within the Earth's core. What is common in these three examples? They are all very dark and isolated places. I have come to learn that God develops our character and purpose in that very same manner--within the darkroom. But remember...what's developed in the dark will shine in the light.

These are words for anyone struggling with life and seeking a bit of enlightenment. I have included some of my personal experiences through poetry--these are all true personal affairs. There is literally blood, sweat, and tears behind the many accounts I'm sharing. For many years, I lived with secrets and emotions bottled up; now I share them with you, my public. This is in hopes that my stories of triumph and misfortune can help you through the darkness and illuminate your path. Know that it is strong and very vivid material--these are my own words and expressions--most of it through firsthand experience. This is not your average ordinary poetry; some may even think of this as the diary of a madman. Just know I speak from the heart with the utmost sincerity as these testimonies to me are the realization that God is real and very present in all of our lives somehow. I am just a man doing all that I can--a real person that is humble, trying to live this life that has been a rumble.

Life does not discriminate when doling out good and bad in our lives. Both of these touch all of us, regardless of who we are and where we come from. The good news is that this is not the end of our story. The author's life was and is a roller coaster of both good and bad instances. This is a story of her journey from hopelessness to the discovery of hope in God, who loves us more than anyone here on earth could love us. How she found a "peace that surpasses all understanding," to quote the Bible.Imagine someone who looks at your heart, who sees all that you could be instead of all that you are or all that you are not. Someone that will forgive all you have done once and for all, never to bring it up again. Never to punish you just one more time. Is guilt a part of your life? How about a sense of your life spinning out of control? A hurt that has cut you so deep that you thought you couldn't survive. You do not need to continue in this downward spiral. There is a well of life-giving water there for you. The author will take you on her journey of discovering who she is and whom she belongs to. What she learned about herself and what she chose to do to turn her life around. You, too, can move your hurts and scars to a place of healing and restoration. You, too, can stand tall and move out of the shadows that hold you back from living the way you were made to be. Move into the light, and choose life and joy. It's there, waiting for you.

In the Bible, in John 3:3, Jesus says: "No one can enter the kingdom of God unless he is born of water and the Spirit." In the case of those of us who are born-again, our first birth took place when the uterus of our mother ruptured; and along with the water in the uterus, we came out as a baby. This was our first birth from water. Our second birth, according to 1 John 5:18 and 1 John 3:9, takes place when a baby or an adult becomes a child of God through a second birth enacted by the Holy Spirit, just as Christ was conceived in the womb of Mary, His mother. This means that when a follower of Christ becomes a born-again Christian, he has not even a trace of sin, just as Christ also was when He was conceived. In John's letter, 1 John 3:9 implies that being born again is a change as profound as if the born-again Christian also were conceived in the womb of his earthly mother by the power of the Holy Spirit. This is so because his second birth was also enacted by the Holy Spirit, exactly in the same way that Jesus was conceived since there is a commonality in both the births. The commonality is that the seed in both cases is the same--the Holy Spirit.A second remarkable thing about a born-again Christian is that after a born-again Christian becomes one, he enters a growth period that will last for the rest of his life, during which time he performs extraordinary deeds of outrageous generosity. I like to point out three examples of such extra-extraordinary deeds that I did only because I was a born-again Christian. In the interest of space, I am only mentioning one here. In this instance, once, I charged on my credit card a sum of $67,000 to help one of my distant family members who lost the lease on the place he was using for business. It took me two years to pay off that debt. It was not easy as I had to take out approximately eight other bank loans before I could pay it off. I had many sleepless nights too. The other two "extraordinary" deeds of outrageous generosity that I did can be read in my fifth reason for my writing this book described in the first part of the book. But the most remarkable of all benefits of being truly born again is that one who is born again can live holy without sin!Now I would like to announce to you about my future action plan to win over ten million people (about half the population of New York City or a little less than a third of the population of Delhi, India) for Christ, God willing, by the grace of God. I am making this announcement here as an invitation to all who want to join me in this undertaking. I can assure you that one day, He will turn our wailing into dancing (Ps. 30:11) and throw us the most amazing party in heaven described in Luke 15, saying to his servants, "Quick! Bring the best robe and put it on him. Put a ring on his finger... So they began to celebrate." Once again, I am confident that God will be with us as He has promised me His faithfulness for this project also. Praise the Lord! Alleluia!

Doug knew three women who were killed due to domestic violence. After the third death, the light came on inside Doug's head. That is too many ladies in the small state of North Dakota with a population of seven hundred thousand. After some soul-searching, Doug got a new Bible and a pink highlighter and highlighted 235 passages of scripture of violence toward men, women, or children. Next, Doug wrote to all his national senators, and all of them encouraged him to go through the church and see if Doug could help get this problem going in the right direction.Doug also phoned many churches from all denominations and had all but two encourage him to write poems on this situation. Doug also felt led at that time to write poems about Mother's Day and Father's Day. The poems went to eight churches in his hometown. After Father's Day, Father Dale from the Catholic Church asked Doug personally to write these poems. Father Dale prayed over them and blessed them. Doug went to his church and had them consecrated before God. The Cleft of the Rock is his first book and hopes to have sequels to follow.
