The whole world is buzzing with life. It is like a drama unfolding. The walk is invigorating. His presence surrounds me. Focusing on him overrides those doubts and fears; they begin to flee. There is a closeness to him I've not felt as he calls me to reset. Words of assurance float through my mind from Psalm 46:10: "Be still and know that I am God. I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth." Now it seems everything I see reminds me of his great love and his abiding presence. My prayer is you will find him faithful to untangle your doubt and fears and restore your joy as you journey through this little book, Reset.

The compelling reality of the dwindling horizon line before me only serves to remind me of the blessed road traveled from behind. When I think of those seemingly unrelated, though reoccurring, reminders of God's providential movement in my life, I'm deeply broken by God's long-suffering and His steadfast love toward me. From the worn linoleum floor coverings beneath that dimly-lit kitchen table in the front room to the marvelously clad halls of Pasvar Pavilion at the University of Pittsburgh, I can look back and see the footprints of the Nazarene as He's carried me now for more than seventy-two years.He has secured me in the midst of life's challenges, cradling me in the stability of a loving, Christ-centered family, establishing me in the communal confines of a time when the whole village was, in fact, raising children, and calling me as a neophyte in ordained ministry while having stabilized my marriage and family to survive its rigors.

Ronald G. Nelson grew up on a Central Minnesota dairy farm where he earned his high school and junior college degrees as the salutatorian in both. He attended the University of Minnesota to earn a BS in geological engineering and an MS in geology with a minor in physical chemistry. He began his career in Albuquerque, New Mexico, and Tulsa, Oklahoma, in exploration and research and development before moving to Omaha, Nebraska. In 1968, he moved with his family to Libya and Holland as a reservoir simulation expert. He joined Conoco North Sea in London in 1974 where he was manager of planning and economics. There he invented the Tension Leg Platform used to exploit deepwater oil and gas fields all over the world. He introduced Miscible Gas Injection to recover up to 80 percent of the oil in the Statfjord Field on the UK-Norway border in the North Sea. He consulted worldwide for fifteen years until his retirement in 2000.

A few years ago, I felt led by the Lord to write this book of devotions. At the time, my motivation was for the most part my family, as I knew that we are living in perilous times, and as we draw nearer to the coming of the Lord, the times would not get better, but worse. But then I began to understand that the body of Christ (the church), and the individuals that make up the church are and will face issues that may be unique to this time in history. But God's word is all inclusive and is relevant to all times and all situations. As David said in Psalm 119:105, "Thy word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path."In this book of devotions, with God's help, I wanted to speak about and deal with the issues that we face in life from a scriptural standpoint, knowing that in God's word, there is a direction, strength, encouragement, and comfort. And it is my prayer that the reader find peace and hope in the Lord and be motivated to draw high to him, knowing that our hope is not in this world but in Jesus Christ.

Inspired by my daughter, this book of poetry is my thoughts and feelings as we were apart for some time. She never left my heart, and these words were my release. I hope by publishing this book, others may enjoy the emotions that I felt through my words to my daughter, realize that our children are our future, and the power that words have. I learned that a lion roars when it is full. Well, the Lion out of the tribe of Judah is full of sins, abominations, and wickedness possessing the land. The Lion out of the tribe of Judah is coming, and he is roaring.
