I started writing down favorite scriptures, quotes, and sayings in fifth or sixth grade. I taught children's Bible classes for 42 years and public school classes for 29 years and I always found a way to use many of the quotes and sayings in all my classes. I still get excited when I see a great quote in a book or magazine, or even on a T-shirt. I have four grandchildren I adore, and I don't get to see them as often as I did when they were children, or during the pandemic. Cale is a graduate of Oklahoma Christian University and is busy with his career. Mackenzie will be a senior at the University of Oklahoma. Tate is a newlywed and is attending the Oklahoma State University's Fire Academy to become a firefighter, and our youngest, Danny, is a 6'4" basketball player who will be a junior at Edmond Memorial High School. I found a quote a few years ago from the gymnast, Gabby Douglas. She said, "By now, you've probably caught on to something: my mother is always standing by with just the right scripture or inspirational saying to get me through any tough situation." I was so blessed to have my grandchildren living in the same town when they were growing up and all four of them were in my sixth grade Sunday school class. I think all of us who are grandmothers want to be like Timothy's grandmother, Lois. I read Gabby's quote and realized how important that was to her. I can't stand by my grandchildren, but I thought I can text scriptures and quotes to them. Also, Corrie ten Boom's book, The Hiding Place came out when my girls were babies. I read it during their nap times. I also watched as many of her interviews as I could. She and her family were Christians in Holland and hid hundreds of Jews being smuggled to safety in a secret hiding place in their combination home and watch and clock repair store. Her entire family was caught by the Nazis and sent to concentration camps. They weren't allowed Bibles, so they taught people using the scriptures they had memorized. I heard her tell a story of finding a broken piece of pencil and writing scriptures down on little scraps of paper and giving them to people to give them hope. That inspired me to memorize more scriptures, so I could always have a Bible close to me. I started texting scriptures and different quotes to my grandkids group once or twice a week. I prayed that this would keep them in the Word and remind them their words and actions need to glorify God. One night I needed to send a new text and it took me about thirty minutes to write one and send it. I remember thinking I wish I could go online or go to Mardel's store to find a book that had the type of devotionals I wanted. My next thought was why don't I write one. I'm retired and I already have over thirty devotionals finished. I could just add about a hundred more and I would have a book of devotionals. I said a prayer and started compiling my devotion "lesson plan" book the next day.

My collection of poems is my way of expressing my views about life, love, hope, duty, honor, and country. We as a people experience struggles, pain, heartaches, but thanks be to God for giving us life and the tools to persevere. Life is precious and we must cherish every moment that we live. This collection of poems will tell a compelling story of life as experienced by the author.

Much of the world we live in is perceived by many as dangerous and unfriendly. Well into his early adulthood, the author thought so, to the extent that he had little interest in traveling outside the boundaries of his homeland. He certainly lacked any interest whatsoever in traveling overseas.While the author travelled extensively throughout the United States for work-related as well as personal purposes, preplanning of trip details was the norm. Assistance of tourist agencies was utilized regularly in order to assure comfort and safety. Overnight accommodations were almost always prearranged. All plans focused on assuring comfort and convenience.While the author proclaimed Christian faith early in his professional career, that proclamation did not extend to sharing that faith with others outside the United States or even locally outside the author's comfort zone. The author refrained from personally interacting with people of unfamiliar cultures, let alone those in foreign locales deemed difficult or even impossible to reach and interact with.Then an incredible transformation took place in the author's life. Roughly thirteen years into the author's professional career, his fear of the unknown and unfamiliar cultures was miraculously removed from his being. Shortly after, his staunch commitment to advance planning of trip details was eradicated little by little.Following the removal of fear of the unknown from the author's persona, he was, time and again, drawn into experiences falling further and further outside his previous comfort zone. Over time, the author was increasingly blessed with amazing new friendships overseas, wonderful ties with families abroad, and incredible faith-sharing opportunities in foreign lands--"independent" travels that have taken him to nearly ninety countries worldwide.Ron's amazing interactional experiences were regularly intertwined with stunning events most would describe as unpredictable, inconceivable, or even impossible--and virtually always unforeseeable. With my first children's book, Little Children We Are, published, this is my second children's book inspired by a valentine date with a college girlfriend after going back to my dorm room. Originally, the title was The Little Rose. I later rented from a young couple born to them a little girl named Carrie Rose who would call me Uncle Lenny. I decided to add a little girl's name, Carrie, and the story then became a story of Carrie having her mother tell her the story of The Little Rose. Hence, the title Carrie and the Little Rose.I sat on the manuscript for years, thinking that it may be just a writing for children until I saw artwork. After seeing artwork from the illustrator, Beth Clingan, who her and her now husband, Mark, were college best friends to me. I decided to commission her to illustrate as a book in colored pencil to which she proved it excellently. Although this book is about a little girl and a rose, it is for girls and boys as the moral of the book is to be the best person you were purposed to be, even if everyone doesn't seem to notice.

Through It All, I Learned is a book written to relate the effect on a child (or children) of an alcoholic parent. The author tells of experiences in her life and the lessons she learned along the way. The book touches on neglect and abuse. It also tells of the life of being adopted, but through it all, and by God's grace and mercy, it's a story of how all can be overcome. God breaks the cycle of alcoholism. He gives a successful, abundant life. The words of the song "Through It All" by Andre Crouch sums it up: "I've had many tears and sorrows, I've had questions for tomorrow, there's been times I didn't know right from wrong. But in every situation, God gave me blessed consolation, that my trials came to only make me strong. Through it all, I've learned to trust in Jesus, I've learned to trust in God."
