This book, The Nature of Computing, is written for students of computing in Universities and Colleges. It contains discussions of applied computing in the areas of image processing, robotics, wind energy (turbines and wind farms), neural circuits, and multi-programming. This revised and extended edition includes new chapters on Logic and Language, Production Systems, Synthesis of Digital Circuits, Microprocessor Design, Instruction Set Architecture, Systolic Arrays, The WeeBee Engine, Digital Signal Processing, and Vibration Energy Harvesting. This book will be highly useful to teachers and lecturers of practical computing courses. The whole book is informed by research, both the author's and more broadly, that is up to date, original and much of it is as yet previously unpublished. All software described in the book is non-commercial and freely downloadable from the internet and listed in the preface.This book emerged from the author's own teaching of a third year undergraduate University course entitled 'The Nature of Computing' over a period of twenty-four weeks. Learning and teaching resources that accompany the book chapters are freely available from the author, details for which are in the book.The author is currently Principal Lecturer Computing at the University of Worcester (UK) where he has been teaching for some twenty years. Prior to that he taught Physics at the Katholiek Universiteit Leuven, Belgium. He is the author of over seventy academic journal and conference publications in computing, game design, and physics. His most recent work involved teaching elementary children to code using animated stories (Story Writing Coding).

New research has demonstrated that a simple text manipulation can reduce the phenomenon known as migration (letters or words seeming to move) and lead to improved comprehension when reading narrative text for students with delayed-visual-disengagement dyslexia. In the research, when students read aloud from this adjusted text, compared to normal text, they made fewer mispronunciations, fewer omissions, fewer substitutions, and fewer migrations and thus scored higher on standardised tests of comprehension. Although fiction, the story is based on true accounts from children who have lived on the streets of English cities in this century. Timothy's parents lost him in the city of Birmingham when he was just three years old. He was then lost in the computer system for tracking children who have been found. The care system then lost him again when he ran away from the children's home. He was found by a homeless man living on the streets of London. His parents never gave up believing that one day they would find him.The narrative is uniquely written from the perspective of each of the characters as the tale unfolds.

Rev Trevor Dearing a retired Church of England vicar, now in his eighty-seventh year, describes this book as a compendium of Christian living. It is a companion volume to the popular book 'Divine healing, Deliverance and the Kingdom of God'.Trevor was converted to Christianity and at the same time wonderfully healed by God from a traumatic mental illness at the age of 19. As a raw untaught Christian, he didn't even know the Bible properly although he did in fact spend a year studying the Bible and training to be an evangelist at the Methodist run "Cliff College" in Derbyshire. His ministry is remembered however, for his dynamic preaching as an evangelist and winning thousands for the Kingdom of God, a remarkable miracle ministry of healing and powerful ministry of deliverance. He has taught and ministered to Christians the UK, the US and world-wide. This book covers topics such as: discovering God in fear, through the Bible and through His people; walking with God as a companion, in our home life, at work, through suffering, through failure, through the storms of life; and serving God in worship, ministry and witnessing.
