The twelfth volume of the Correspondance générale comprises more than 400 letters written in 1821¿1822, two years of intense parliamentary and journalistic activity for Constant. Like the previous volumes, it offers unique insights into the intellectual and political life of the time, as well as into Constant¿s relationships with his friends and family.

The volume 20 of the Complete Works comprises the 4th part of On Religion, dedicated to a comparison of sacerdotal and non-sacerdotal polytheism. In addition to the original text from 1830, the edition features a complete critical apparatus, information on the text genesis, as well as unpublished sources and work documents that give an idea of the challenges Constant encountered while writing this book, between 1827 and 1830.

This XIIIth volume comprises all the articles published by Benjamin Constant in 1819¿1820, that is almost 120 contributions. Featured in the most influential liberal newspapers of the time (La Minerve française, La Renommée, Le Courrier français...), these texts shed light on an essential but little known aspect of Constant's political and intellectual commitment under the French Restauration.

This volume contains Books VI¿VIII ofDe laReligion. These books cover the constitutive elements of sacerdotal polytheism (VI), the constitutive elements of non-sacerdotal polytheism (VII), and the Homeric poems (VIII). They occupy a key position in the economy of the work as a whole by contrasting the two forms of polytheism. In addition, this volume includes an interesting discussion of the so-called ¿Homer Question.¿

This tenth volume of the Correspondance générale, which covers the years 1816¿1818, is a valuable document on the intellectual life of the period as well as on the relations of Benjamin Constant with his friends and family, on his literary activities (particularly, during a sojourn in England, the publication of Adolphe) and on his career as publicist and champion of political and civil liberties, after his return to Paris in September 1816.

This volume contains the first of five volumes of Constant¿s De la Religion. It comprises two books with a different thematic focus: book one presents an outline of the ¿sentiment religieux¿, while book 2 deals with questions of fetishism. It also makes accessible all available documents relating to the publication of this first volume as well as the first ever edition of Constant¿s Carnet de notes depuis le 29 septembre 1824.

Volume 9 of the Correspondance générale comprises 416 letters that Constant wrote or received between 1813 and 1815. They clearly illustrate his eagerness to start a career in French politics. While initially, he was stuck in the isolation and monotony of married life in Göttingen, his personal situation was further complicated in 1814/15 by his unrequited, passionate love for Juliette Récamier.

This volume contains the Mélanges de littérature et de politique, published by Constant in 1829, one year before his death. This work, composed of 20 chapters, has often been considered to be his testament, or at least a representative overview of 40 years of writing on various political, literary, historical, religious, and philosophical topics. The volume also provides a number of hitherto unpublished documents as well as appendices.

This volume presents the last major text on political theory published by Constant during his lifetime, the Commentaire sur l¿ouvrage de Filangieri (1822¿1824). It comprises the critical text of the original edition with manuscript variants, commentaries informing about the context of Constant¿s work as well as a number of additional documents. With this volume, the ¿uvres complètes thus present the entire body of Constant¿s political writings that remain inspiring and relevant even today.

It includes the author's voluminous correspondence. The Collected Works comprise two series, the first containing his works, the second his correspondence. Both series are arranged chronologically. Each volume includes chronological surveys, surveys, a bibliography and an index.

This volume makes accessible Benjamin Constant¿s major political treatise, which was the basis for his political actions and the development of his political writings. His Principes de politique became one of the decisive starting points of European liberalism. The book contains 1906 tenets of Constant¿s political philosophy, which evolved over a lengthy period. Principes de politique remained unpublished for a long time. The critical apparatus elucidates the genesis of the work and also its reception in the political theory of the 19th and 20th centuries.

Volume X presents a critical edition with commentary of all the texts published by Constant between July 1815 and April 1818. We are dealing here with political journalism, an instrument of public opinion deployed with great virtuosity by Constant to realise his liberal programme, with texts on political theory and the fundamental debates on the state budget, with publications composed in connection with the 1817 parliamentary elections. This volume contains an engagement with one of Chateaubriand¿s key works (La Monarchie selon la Charte), articles on the politics of the day and publications on important contemporary personalities such as Madame de Staël or Joseph Fouché. The importance of the texts always reaches beyond their particular concern to encompass fundamental principles of liberalism in Restoration Europe.

This volume examines the different and sometimes contradictory approaches of four UN human rights committees to the concept of religion. Drawing on critical perspectives from religious studies, the book combines a genealogical assessment of the role of religion in international law with a detailed textual study of the reporting practice of the committees monitoring racial discrimination, civil and political rights, women's rights, and children's rights. Arsheim argues that the role of religion within the rights traditions monitored by the committees varies to the extent that their recommendations risk contradicting one another, thereby undermining their credibility and potential to bring about real change on the ground: Where some committees view religion singularly as a core individual right, others see religion partly as an inherent threat to the realization of other rights, but also as a potent social force to be reckoned with. In order to remedy this situation, Arsheim proposes the publication of a joint general comment by all the committees, spelling out their approach to the role of religion in the implementation of human rights.

The Cinepoetics book series aims at a theoretical and analytical reconceptualization of the discursivity of audiovisual images. The focus is not on the circulation of media representations but on the modes of this circulation: How do audiovisual images as figurations of media experience relate to other audiovisual images? What does it mean to describe different modes of audiovisual experience and recursivity as forms of cinematic thinking? Die historische Textsortenforschung ist fur das Deutsche ein noch relativ unerschlossenes Feld und so sind bisher nur einige wenige historische Textsorten erfasst und beschrieben. Mit den medizinischen Gutachten nimmt diese Studie eine historische Textsortenklasse in den Blick, die schon im 17. und 18. Jahrhundert von zentraler Bedeutung fur die arztliche Kommunikation war. Ausgangspunkt der Untersuchung sind gangige, gegenwartsbezogene textlinguistische Beschreibungsansatze, die fur sprachhistorische Kontexte modifiziert und um wichtige pragmatische Kategorien erweitert werden. Als besonders fruchtbar erweist sich die starkere Berucksichtigung metakommunikativer Wissensbestande wie sie sich in Rhetoriklehrbuchern, Textsortenanleitungen und Textsortenbenennungen manifestieren. Auf der Basis dieses breit angelegten Analysemodells werden die entsprechenden Textsorten - Consilia, Gerichtsgutachten und Sektionsberichte - kultur- und wissenschaftshistorisch sowie hinsichtlich der fur sie typischen sprachlichen Merkmale untersucht und beschrieben. Die Studie bietet damit nicht nur fur Sprach- und Medizinhistoriker, sondern auch fur Kulturwissenschaftler einen interessanten Einblick in die medizinische Fachkommunikation dieser Zeit.
