  • von Lee Sheffield
    21,00 €

Named for the British warrior queen of the first century, Boudicca is an advanced sailing vessel that is sent out by governmental authorities to fight modern-day piracy on the high seas. Full of adventures, intrigue, and thrilling battles, Lee Sheffield's exciting new novel pays tribute to the "women and men that have given the ultimate in the line of duty as EOD (Explosive Ordnance Disposal)… These people exhibit the epitome of what it is to be in the field and the philosophy of risk so that the mission can proceed and that lives will be saved. These are the narratives of their demise. The reason the women of this dedication and the story are cited is because no one knows outside the service." About the Author Lee Sheffield is originally from Wyoming, having traveled extensively, both in the US Air Force as an Explosive Ordnance Disposal Specialist, as a working cowboy, and while working as a Construction Project Engineer, having advanced from Drafter to his last position. In the meantime, he advanced his education through a Bachelor's and finally a Master's degree in Management. This is one of the several novels he has written since retiring to Washington State.

  • von Siciliano Richard

The Capitol Expressway is a fantasy retelling of the unending struggle between John Locke and Thomas Hobbes for the civilized soul. In the Aquarian Age, individualism, the source of all evil, has been replaced by social cooperation, resulting in equality, peace, and harmony. Rehabilitation has replaced punishment. Yet for some reason, God keeps sending babies on earth who are unique individuals and who grow up wishing to express themselves as such. How can a perfect society protect itself from this danger? Perhaps by redefining what it means to be human. Fetuses are aborted and the elderly are euthanized. Both are considered non-violent procedures. Why shouldn't those who are cancerous to society be eliminated as well? This is the story of a government administrator who cannot define the difference between cowardice and bravery in a society in which there are no enemies, who is torn by his desires and the advantages that the society his given him, and who is unable to decide whether goodness resides in himself or in heaven, until love answers those questions for him.About the AuthorRichard Siciliano was born and raised in Connecticut. He was an anti-war and community activist and spent many years working for social services agencies. He now lives in a small town in Northern California.

  • von Marie Balustrade

Writer and photographer, I am a native of the Philippines who grew up and lived in various countries, resulting in photography and writing becoming integral pillars of my soul and, hence, inseparable from my being. The urge to write about what I photograph or match a photograph to my writings are processes that are never far from one another. In the same manner, while on retreat in the mountains of Kodaikanal, India, one year, photography transcended into a form of prayer. When I need to find my center or escape the madness of the world around me, I grab my camera and immerse myself in a world that understands me, and I it. My novels deal with controversial social issues that span the globe. The stories are not meant for the reader to swoon over and fall in love momentarily for a shallow romance. I want the audience to cry with me, to be enraged, be disgusted, and after turning the last page, they should be more vigilant. All my books and stories are supported by extensive travel and research, in addition to firsthand experience, having been a development worker in Asia for over 15 years and seen horrors that few will ever write about. My life experiences are the foundation for my novels, and I write from the soul, not an empty page.

  • von Allen Newman
    13,00 €

Broke and Going to Mars demonstrates the ways in which we must, as a nation, save America from financial default. The United States is currently at $20,000,000,000,000 of debt - which is well past what many economists consider default territory. Allen Newman strongly believes our politicians need to address this issue. He shows why voters need to know what is at stake: saving the American Empire of Good and Plenty, maintaining a big military, or saving their American retirement dream and social programs. Newman's belief that what to save and what to cut should be the people's decision (as our government is of the people, by the people, and for the people) is based on his research on the history of nations and empires and how they rose and fell, as well as recent studies by economists on the nature of debt such as the novel, White House Burning. As depicted in Broke and Going to Mars, in order to prevent America from becoming a military/police state or social state, voters must be involved. Newman hopes that readers will understand the magnitude of the issues of our national debt and raise awareness in their homes, communities, and country as a whole.About the AuthorAllen Newman is a graduate of Ferris State College in Big Rapids, Michigan, with a degree in data processing. He currently resides in Hartland, Michigan, after retiring in 2009. A student of history, Newman has read extensively on the Civil War, the American West, and generally all things American along with the history of Medieval Europe and the Roman Empire.

Disappointments led to frustration which fueled anger. After months and years of the same, it turned to depression. Finally, he had become suicidal. While Kirk courageously persevered from a state of despair to overcome his suicidal disposition, his experience begs the question: How does a person with a strong and healthy upbringing reach such a drastic conclusion - to commit suicide? Kirk confronts this critical question in Flower Dog Man - and offers compelling answers that can strengthen any person's resolve to live, and live meaningfully."A welcome antidote to the anxiety-inducing tensions of the everyday world… a lifetime of precisely distilled experiences expertly concentrated." - Kirkus Reviews

  • von Toru Nakamura

An international economist, Toru Nakamura, PhD has served in consulting and executive roles advising many private and public organizations around the world. Sharing a wide-ranging view is necessary to the future of our troubled world. However, too many social scientists have become increasingly specialized, paying little attention to what other disciplines are discovering and are losing a humanist perspective. In the process, they ignore the imagination and the importance of virtues like love or trust to bind us together. As the twenty-first century began, Dr. Nakamura began to visit some ruins of the world. He was awestruck at the prehistoric ruins called Göbekli Tepe, which was unearthed in the mid-1990s in southeastern Turkey. Later, Dr. Nakamura learned that the Greek symbol of the caduceus, a wand topped with wings and two entwined snakes, likely originated at this remarkable prehistoric site. There, as the last Ice Age was ending, the human imagination that led to the birth of civilization burst out. About the AuthorToru Nakamura, PhD dedicated his first book (in Japanese) to his late daughter, Chorister. Dr. Nakamura's son is an artist. He gives meaning and purpose to Dr. Nakamura's life, often sending him pictures of his own growing son. Besides travelling and reading, Dr. Nakamura loves walking in the park, gardening, listening to music to have peace of mind, and, of course, enjoying good food with good friends.
