Holey Ship High In Transport: I Had Cancer is an engaging and thought-provoking memoir that looks back on the Matthew G. Walton, D.O.'s experiences battling cancer at the age of thirteen. Diagnosed with a malignant brain tumor, Dr. Walton endured brain surgery, chemotherapy, and radiation therapy over the course of a year. He utilizes the challenges he and his family faced to discuss how we can reframe experiences and overcome obstacles. In his case, humor became an important coping mechanism, and he also demonstrates how the support of his extended family, friends, and members of the medical community left a lasting impression. In addition to Dr. Walton's own perspective as a cancer survivor, his father, Gary A. Walton, also shares memories of his son's treatement and his own reflections on how the family coped and the support they received, often from unanticipated sources. Throughout Holey Ship High In Transport: I Had Cancer, the authors offer encouragement not only to those facing medical crises, but to anyone seeking to learn how to overcome challenges and to support others in the midst of difficult circumstances.About the AuthorMatthew G. Walton, D.O. was born and raised in Southwestern Pennsylvania and was diagnosed with a malignant mixed germ cell tumor in the center of his brain as a child. He later studied at Allegheny College and earned his medical degree at LECOM: Erie Campus. He completed his residency in Family Practice at UPMC in Pittsburgh.

  • von John J. Baxevanis

A solid strategy, the acquisition of knowledge, the selection of the best investments, and the dissection of said investments according to their characteristics is Dr. John Baxevanis' proposal for procuring a healthy relationship with investing. In other words, what at first may seem rather chaotic, perplexing, or just plain confusing can often be broken down into easily distinguishable parts, provided the investor is armed with the right tools. The Investor's Cookbook is a break-it-down approach to investing. It involves understanding the investing landscape, honing the power of observation, and acquiring the basics of monetary policy, economic history and, as Baxevanis put it, "the machinations of the oldest streets in Manhattan." Successful investing should never be a product of luck, but instead a methodical process that involves allowing the mind to process new information. A Ph.D. is not necessary for successful investing, just the assembled ingredients in a well-developed investment recipe- knowledge, prudence, confidence, asset diversification, risk management, patience, and discipline-and a slow and steady wins the race mentality.About the AuthorDr. John J. Baxevanis may be a resident of Pennsylvania, but his educational aspirations and his professional and academic career have taken him across the country and around the world. His formal education includes a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from the University of New York, a Master of Arts in Geography from the University of Indiana (Bloomington), and a Ph.D. in Urban Planning from the University of North Carolina. Baxevanis' work as a professor took him to City University in New York, Trenton State College in New Jersey, the University of North Carolina, Florida State University, and East Stroudsburg University in Pennsylvania. Baxevanis also served as Chairman of the Geography Department and Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences at East Stroudsburg University. His travels have taken him to points across the globe, including Europe, North Africa, and the Middle East. Baxevanis' son, James, a registered broker, was the inspiration for The Investor's Cookbook, his fifth book. He has also served as editor for the American Wine Review, Vinefera Wine Growers Journal, and Social Science Review.

  • von Leonard Dungey

The Best Man I Can Be is the result of Leonard Dungey's 94 years of experiences. It has been written at the urging of family and friends, and a gut instinct on the part of the author to catalogue his experiences in the military as an African American and as the best man he can be. How does one become the best man he can be? Leonard Dungey strives to illustrate this through his own experiences-good and bad, local and abroad. His is a story to be remembered.
