The 15th Vienna Gamens Conference "The Future and Reality of Gaming" (FROG) 2021 has explored how magic and games seem almost inextricably intertwined. This volume collects 17 contributions that have emerged from the conference, and which together form a multi-faceted examination of the "Magic of Games".

Contemporary game scholarship offers a broad palette of theories and methods inherited from such fields as sociology and communication studies, experimental sciences, literary analysis, educational sciences and cultural critique. At large, this inherently interdisciplinary research aims for a holistic perspective on the ¿LUDIC SOCIETY¿. With that in mind, this book is organized into four sections that present related and often intertwined ideas and observations about the ways we manifest ourselves in games and play, how games represent us in the present and in the past, how games and play change us, and what it all may mean for contemporary society. This book invites readers to engage with the key challenges of a ludic society, explore new perspectives and initiate fruitful discussions. It is aimed at both passionate game scholars and all those who want to get a first taste of the multifaceted research field of game studies.

Das DialogForum Migration & Integration widmet sich seit 10 Jahren den gegenwärtigen und zukünftigen Fragen der Migration und Integration. Dieser Tagungsband umfasst Beiträge von ExpertInnen aus Theorie und Praxis zu den Themen, die 2017 und 2018 im DialogForum im Fokus standen.

Global change processes, such as climate change, digitalization, migration movements and economic crises, are among the greatest challenges of our time and also shape the Danube macro-region as a specifically challenging region of Europe. As part of the Danube:Future Interdisciplinary School 2017 in Krems 28 PhD-students and young scientists from Alps-Adriatic Rectors' Conference and the Danube Rectors' Conference universities discussed these questions and developed research proposals within this broad context. These proceedings offer a comprehensive overview of the generated work.The Danube:Future Interdisciplinary School is part of the Capacity Building Module of the Danube:Future project, a Flagship Project of the EUSDR - the European Union Strategy for the Danube Region, in the Priority Area Knowledge Society. Danube:Future is a joint network project of the Alps-Adriatic Rectors' Conference and the Danube Rectors' Conference. It aims at capacity building in the Danube River Basin (DRB) and at providing networking to aid the development common research projects for a sustainable future of the DRB.

»Wissen wird smart« - so lautete das Leitthema der Kremser Wissensmanagement-Tage 2017. Die Technologien, die uns umgeben, werden immer smarter, intelligenter, leistungsstärker und robuster, und treten damit in einen Wettbewerb mit der menschlichen Intelligenz. Längst haben smarte Systeme Aufgaben übernommen, deren Ausführung lange Zeit ausschließlich menschlichen Arbeitskräften vorbehalten war. Sie übersetzen Sprachen fast so gut wie ein Mensch, sie bewerten Prüfungen im Universitäts- und Schulbereich, sie erkennen zuverlässig Gesichter und diagnostizieren Krankheiten schon, bevor der Patient tatsächlich erkrankt. Die Liste lässt sich problemlos fortsetzen und betrifft sämtliche Arbeits- und Lebensbereiche.Im Zentrum der Konferenz stand angewandtes Wissensmanagement im Dialog zwischen Wissenschaft und Praxis. Das verbindende Thema der Beiträge dieses Sammelbandes sind smarte Technologien, die die Aufbereitung, Teilung und (Weiter-)Entwicklung von Wissen zunehmend besser unterstützen können. Dabei eröffnen sich vollkommen neue Fragestellungen im Umgang mit diesen Technologien, die nicht nur unsere Arbeitswelten, sondern auch unsere privaten Lebenswelten nachhaltig beeinflussen.

We need a new approach which can formulate, generate and engage such patterns.The pattern language approach of Christopher Alexander serves this purpose - the interdisciplinary and participatory building blocks for societal change.The PURPLSOC 2017 conference contributions cover 25 domains - from anthropology and automation to political science and systems science - for a comprehensive perspective of current pattern research and practice.

Dieser zweite Band der Reihe "Europa und Globalisierung" liefert Einblick in Weichenstellungen der EU in der Sicherheits-, Verteidigungs- und Migrationspolitik, aber auch in der Kohäsions- und der europäischen Nachbarschaftspolitik. Der Band skizziert damit das breite Spannungsfeld der EU zwischen der Förderung des inneren Zusammehalts und dem Auftritt als globaler Player.
