It did not take long for her to realize that she was jobless in the country where unemployment was equal to crime, meaning that she could be persecuted as a criminal. So now she would have to choose one out of two: either to be persecuted as a political criminal or leave her beloved Lithuania for good. And she chose the latter.
The story of Superman has always been my childhood favorite. The creators of Superman were Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster. They were classmates at Cleveland Glenville High School. They signed their DC Comics contract and received their first royalty check for Superman's creation on March 1, 1938. Ginny never knew her father, Ramone, who had mysteriously disappeared before Ginny's birth. Ramone left Mandy a gift for their unborn child, a crystal lattice which, if used in the right way, gave Ginny unexplained superpowers. The world's evil nuclear powers China, Russia, and North Korea race each other to discover Ginny's true identity, kidnap her, in their schemes to control those superpowers for their own purposes. Being an American citizen born outside the United States in the forties and fifties was pretty commonplace. They started new lives, new families, and encountered numerous business opportunities in countries that suffered from the devastation of war. My father was one of the men who saw the needs of a country and the potential for development of natural resources with unlimited manpower. He saw the desire of an impoverished nation to improve the lives and existence of its countrymen. This is how my father ended up in the Philippines, met my mother and married her, and started a new family that included myself. My father's foresight into the potential of the Filipino people to be hardworking, industrious people--and the realization that this country could be industrialized and produce its own viable commodities that would enable the populations to have jobs and feed their families and become independent of the countries that had monopolized, manipulated, and created dependencies for years--was real. My father proved that this Filipino nation, when given an opportunity, could become an extremely productive nation that would become self-sufficient and be able to walk with pride. He taught a nation of people about self-worth and the rewards of hard work. His true plight did not occur until he had accomplished wealth, power, and recognition for being successful in industrializing the Philippines and creating jobs for millions of people. His insight into the needs of a country wallowing in poverty and the devastating effects and aftermath of war and his desire, foresight, intelligence, and energy to create employment for people who were eager to reconstruct and improve their lives was endless and rewarding for all. Having been born in the beginning phase of his business endeavors, I watched and rode the wave of his ascent to financial success with him and enjoyed, marveled, and was proud of who my father was and all of his accomplishments. I still am and will forever be proud of who my father was.

There are many issues that affect the African American community that are not being addressed adequately. For a long time now, many African American people have been under the impression or made to feel that they are helpless and need to depend on someone on the outside to help them rebuild their communities. Of course, this is not true. No one from the outside is coming to help rebuild a community in which they do not live. It is time for us as Black people or African Americans in this country to take responsibility for our own neighborhoods and our own schools and our own economics and our own future. For us to thrive as a community and prosper, we must figure out the answers to these questions and understand why we do not force ourselves to live up to our full potential. It is up to us and only us to better our situations and rebuild our communities.
