Set in the fictional former mining village of Brodworth some ten years after the closure of the local pit, SCRAP tells the story of fifty-year old former miner Phil Steele's attempt to once again earn an honest living and recover his pride and dignity. Phil is still struggling to find a new purpose in life following the closure of the pit and fears being thrown on the scrapheap. He is not the man he was and this is affecting his family. His wife, Deb, is frustrated and is pursuing her own dream of owning and running a café, with or without his support. His unemployed son, Gav, has shown little interest in joining a father-son plumbing business, preferring instead to earn 'easy' (probably illegal) money with his mates doing 'a bit of this and a bit of that'. Phil clings to the past, as a member of a mining community, by retreating to his garage to work on his classic BSA Golden Flash motorbike - a restoration project he started just weeks before the miners' strike began. The bike is the last remaining symbol of the hope, pride and dignity he had as a young miner. Now, in the final week of his training course, he has a violent encounter with an old enemy from his days on the picket line. This leads Phil to acknowledge that his inability to move on from his past life has made him self-centred and endangered his own and his family's safety.

Recognising the significant number of procurement fraud and corruption risks that can impact an organisation - including roles and people who have the potential to influence or manipulate projects and the procurement life cycle that might include a lack of trained personnel, procurement and financial controls, and compliance measures in place - can undermine the design and implementation of an anti-corruption and counter procurement fraud approach. Since procurement fraud and corruption continue to develop in scope, scale and creativity, the risks, typologies and routes to mitigation should be regarded as part of a constantly assessed and updated approach.Creating an anti-corruption and counter procurement fraud approach should provide an awareness of the criminal risks within an organisation's procurement and associated processes and reinforce the importance and vital role of leadership, ethics professionals, staff and other stakeholders in building an anti-corruption culture to protect organisational revenues and reputation. The 4-pillar framework approach to counter procurement fraud contains 16 steps to identify and prevent corruption and procurement fraud risk. It examines how a risk mitigation framework created with a foundation of education, data collection, risk assessment and a coordinated response and change management process can help identify and mitigate risk. Planning and following this approach one step at a time, collecting all available data, will assist in assessing the challenges and performance measurement in each area and help create a strategic response to identified risk.

The purpose of this book is hopefully to make people aware of the future of this wonderful planet of ours. Yannis Vadakastanis is a man that was born on the Greek island of Zakynthos and at a young age became aware of the plight of the loggerhead turtles better known locally as caretta caretta. He then decided to try and help these wonderful animals that were here before the dinosaurs. For the last thirty years plus he has been building a centre in Gerakas Zakynthos, but this book is not just about him, it is about the wildlife, flora and fauna that live on this island that are struggling to survive now that tourism is deeply rooted on the island. the problem with discarded rubbish, not just here is a massive worrying problem all over the planet and should be a concern for everybody that lives on it! The greed for money and profit are guilty of destroying wildlife faster than we can ever imagine. Just think of the Amazon forests that are being destroyed daily and not forgetting the lust for palm oil. Every living thing has the absolute right to live peacefully and safely on this planet, "not just us". We can and should all live in harmony, nature has no problem taking care of its own, so what gives us the right to decide that we can destroy the planet. We are the only species on this earth that seem to think that we have the right to do so, and we are the only ones that can save it. if we decide to ignore it, then there will be nothing for the future. I hope that if after reading this book it will help you realise that this is not fiction but fact. " It's up to us, do you really want a paradise lost". The author Michael james Elves...

This inspirational autobiography opens a window on the uniquely individual life of Vadim Muntagirov, one of the most celebrated dancers of our time.Vadim left home aged 10 to enter full time ballet training, arrived at The Royal Ballet School via the Prix de Lausanne aged 16 with no English, was cast as Albrecht in English National Ballet's Giselle aged 19 and danced Siegfried in Swan Lake at The Royal Albert Hall to considerable acclaim less than a year after graduating. Since then, with an expanded repertoire as a Principal with The Royal Ballet and in parallel demand as an international guest, Vadim's early promise has translated into a stellar career. Nicknamed Vadream, he is hugely admired and very much loved by audiences at home and abroad.Vadim's story affords a real insight into the intense work and level of commitment needed to rise to the top in ballet - and stay there. It enables readers to see the experiences which have shaped him, including the lasting effect of separation from his family, his rigorous early training, his discovery of a world beyond his homeland, and the unstinting support he has received in his adopted country as a student and during his years in the profession. This is a book which looks 'behind the scenes' and 'beyond the interviews' to reveal what is involved in becoming and being a Principal dancer, including the privilege of working with many ballet luminaries, the more informal moments, and the many etceteras which come with the job.But Vadim makes it about so much more than the daily 'ins and outs' as he shares his reactions, thoughts and emotions in a way which allows others to get to know him as a person.

Humanity's Rage is a poignant exploration of man's inhumanity to man, its origins, and what is known as 'compassion fatigue' - that loss of sensitivity to the suffering of others that is a result of both our natural selfishness and an over-exposure to grim images of pain and misery. But instigating, allowing or simply ignoring such suffering does not only hurt those who need our sympathy and assistance - it also hurts us as individuals and as a collective human group. Written in a very distinctive prose style, full of repetitions and ellipses that give the writing a faltering sense of hesitancy or outrage. It is a compassionate cry from the heart, urging us all to look to our fellow humans' suffering rather than turning a blind eye.

This book is written for Catholics and fellow Christians seeking a vision of the Church which inspires great hope in these challenging times. The Church is God's process of healing and developing humanity. Father Brian Murphy highlights its history of change and development, and suggests how the present trials are intense preparation for the future. God has led us into the desert where all true renewal begins, in order to be prepared for a wonderful new spring. Each of us needs to become more deeply 'the type of worshiper the Father wants': that is to 'worship in truth' by rediscovering the treasures of the faith, and to 'worship in spirit' through contemplation, the prayer of the heart (John 4:24). Then the Church will be more effectively empowered to continue its mission to baptise all people into the life of the Trinity, and to renew the face of the earth. In the last part of the book Anne Bardell stresses the need for Adult faith formation, giving many practical examples. She discovered that most Catholics seem content with their level of faith knowledge. However, once introduced to the deeper riches of the history and truths of the faith, people were eager to know more as their thirst for faith formation grew. She argues for the essential need for centres or hubs of faith formation in every parish. It is essential that practising Catholics are encouraged to access these hubs as a normal part of parish life. They should also be accessible to parents leading their children through the Sacraments of Initiation. This requires the training of leaders equipped to support people as they travel ever deeper into their relationship with Jesus.

This book is about seeking to find out more about the soul through the means of meditation. The introduction describes what is meant by the words 'soul', 'spirit' and 'spirituality' and how meditation has been used for millennia to find out more about these deeper facets of the human being. Astrology, particularly one branch of astrology called 'draconic astrology' is another tool that can be used to explore the soul. The author meditated on the draconic level of the planets and signs of the zodiac to find out more about the soul, its relationship to spirit and their interactions with the outer, physical level of life. The first chapter gives simple instructions on how to create a draconic horoscope from the tropical horoscope that is used more commonly in western astrology. Diagrams and examples are given. However, it is not necessary to know anything about astrology to use this book. The chapter on draconic astrology can easily be skipped over by readers who have no interest in that subject. The second chapter describes how the author prepared to meditate. Most of the meditations started with her entering a cave, symbolic of a quiet place within. As each meditation unfolded, it became clear which planet or sign of the zodiac was the focus of that meditation. At the end of each meditation, insights gained were noted and the subject of further contemplation. Pictures, either paintings or collages, were produced to capture the essence of each meditation. These are reproduced in this book. The third and fourth chapters detail the meditations of the planets and signs of the zodiac, respectively. These descriptions are followed by the picture produced after the meditation and an explanation of the picture. After that are a few key words and phrases that summarise that planet or sign at the draconic level. There is a 'Comment' that puts the draconic level of the planet or sign into the context of the more common interpretations associated with the tropical horoscope. The final chapter is a review. It describes observations that have emerged in the author's astrology practice as a result of insights gained in the meditations. There is enhanced understanding of how a person's soul is guiding them in their physical life. However, the meditations go much further. There are many instances when the meditations seem to elucidate deeper parts of the human being: the soul and its connection with spirit. In addition, the meditations suggest a profound connection to all life; a oneness with all that is in creation.

Defence of the garden realm is a book for children, which an adult can enjoy. It is a series of short, exciting poems depicting the initial adventure of a small group of insects (and a spider) who are facing the oncoming ant army (there is no fighting). After danger is averted they go their own way, but we then read an individual poem about the early days of each character. This develops our knowledge of each personality with all of their insecurities and obstacles to overcome. For example, the character "Little Scaredy Spider" is detached from all the other young spiders because she is vegetarian and eats only seeds and leaves, her webs are works of art and are not sticky to catch insects, but instead are silky and beautifully intricate. There is a Bee, who is the son of the Queen's sister. He is posh and clumsy and therefore is named "Bumble," but through an act of bravery, gets awarded the "order of the yellow knee" the highest honour possible. It is nice to think that after reading DOTGR that a child will see many bees with that particular medal (pollen sacks). "Sergeant Dung" is a dung beetle and the leader of "the crew," he sounds like an old soldier from London and is physically very strong, but he observes how the different strengths of others can overcome things that his brute strength cannot. "Catty-P" starts off as a caterpillar who would like to be in the air force, but is too young to fly, but she transforms and sees life from a whole new perspective (and doubles Bumble's air force). "Mumble" is a worm and slightly depressed. He sees all the things that the others can do and has low self-esteem as a result...but, through selfless acts, is elevated by the friendship of "the crew." Then each member of the crew of five have an individual adventure, followed by a few team efforts to deal with flood, building disruption, the vanity of a handsome "Red admirable" butterfly and a final summary by Mumble. Each adventure has their own original watercolour painted illustrations and the result is magic.
