The inspiration for the major motion picture "Enemy" starring Jake Gyllenhaal and directed by Denis Villeneuve Tertuliano Máximo Afonso is a divorced, depressed history teacher. To lift his spirits, a colleague suggests he rent a certain video. Tertuliano watches the film, unimpressed. But during the night, when he is awakened by noises in his apartment, he goes into the living room to find that the VCR is replaying the video. He watches in astonishment as a man who looks exactly like him-or, more specifically, exactly like he did five years before, mustachioed and fuller in the face-appears on the screen. He sleeps badly. Against his better judgment, Tertuliano decides to pursue his double. As he roots out the man's identity, what begins as a whimsical story becomes a "wonderfully twisted meditation on identity and individuality" (The Boston Globe). Saramago displays his remarkable talent in this haunting tale of appearance versus reality.

Sergeant Michael Dunne of the 10th Canadian Infantry Battalion has survived some of the worst fighting of the Great War. Wounded on the Western Front, he returns home to Calgary, a broken man suffering from neurasthenia and facing trial as a deserter should he ever attempt a return to the battlefield. In Calgary, he finds a complicated love with Sarah Mann, a nurse dismissed from her position because of her German ancestry. Sarah is struggling to care for her chronically ill younger brother, David, and is devastated when he finds someone to lie on his medical certificate so that he can enlist in the war. Though Michael is haunted by his memories of the battlefield, out of duty and love he follows David to the Front. Neither of the two men knows what lies ahead. It is November 1917, and Michael, David and the rest of the Fighting 10th are about to plunge into the hell known as Passchendaele. Based on the epic Canadian motion picture written by, starring and directed by Paul Gross, Passchendaele immortalizes the story of a battle that has become synonymous with the horrors of the First World War. Yet Passchendaele was also the scene of Allied victory, a triumph carried by Canadians, and one that helped form who we are as a nation. In a story of war, love, futility and sacrifice, Passchendaele reminds us of our country's greatest strengths and our lasting achievements.

The C-Type Natriuretic Peptide (CNP) is a peptide hormone that has been shown to possess anti-cancer and renal protective properties. This experimental study on Swiss albino mice aims to investigate the potential of CNP as a therapeutic agent for cancer therapy and renal protection. In vitro and in vivo experiments were conducted to evaluate the effect of CNP on tumor growth, cell signaling, apoptosis, proliferation, and chemotherapy-induced nephrotoxicity. Biochemical studies were also conducted to assess the biomarkers associated with cancer and renal damage, such as oxidative stress, inflammation, and angiogenesis. The results of the study revealed that CNP treatment led to a significant reduction in tumor growth and nephrotoxicity. CNP was found to induce apoptosis and inhibit proliferation of cancer cells, while also protecting the renal function against chemotherapy-induced damage. The mechanism of action of CNP involves activation of cyclic GMP and nitric oxide pathways, as well as modulation of cellular pathways and gene expression. Additionally, CNP was found to possess antioxidant properties and to modulate the immune response, which contributed to its anti-cancer and renal protective effects.Overall, the findings of this study suggest that CNP has the potential to be a promising therapeutic agent for cancer therapy and renal protection. Future clinical trials and drug development studies should be conducted to further investigate the efficacy and safety of CNP in cancer prevention and treatment.

But there's no road map for being the first trans girl at an all-girls school. And when she tries to join the Sibyls, an old-fashioned Ainsley sisterhood complete with code names and special privileges, she's thrust into the center of a larger argument about what girlhood means and whether the club should exist at all. Being the figurehead of a movement isn't something Tara's interested in. She'd rather read old speeches and hang out with the Sibyls who are on her side--especially Felicity, a new friend she thinks could turn into something more. Then the club's sponsor, a famous alumna, attacks her in the media and turns the selection process into a spectacle. Tara's always found comfort in the power of other peoples' words.
