"This work is not intended to be a roster of listing of names. It is meant to bring substance and meaning to the lives of those who fought for their beliefs in the Civil War. Histories have been written of the many Wisconsin regiments and their exploits. Each of those regiments consisted of hundreds of individuals of various backgrounds, ideals and occupations. Those who fell through disease or wounds left behind a grieving family. Those who returned carried on in their traditions and worked to create a better life for themselves, their families and neighbors. My intention is to find parts of the history for each individual and to identify the final resting place of every Civil War veteran who is buried within the county. These volumes represent my findings prior to 1993.""The following criteria were used to determine if a veteran should be included in these volumes:1. He was known to reside in Winnebago County prior to the outbreak of the war, as proven by census records, biographies, cemetery inscriptions and records, military records, etc.2. He was known to reside in Winnebago County after the war, as proven by any of the above.3. He is buried in any Winnebago County cemetery, whether proven to have resided in the county or not.4. He was listed in the official records as having resided in Winnebago County at the time of his enlistment."Entries are listed alphabetically and include the following information when known: rank, company, division, birth, death, parents, spouse, family line, children, activities during the war, prisoner of war, post-war occupations, and sources of information.

This new index has been compiled from the death and burial records of twenty-four churches in Hamilton County, Ohio. It contains nearly 11,000 deaths recorded in the death and burial registers of individual priests and ministers before 1850. Although index entries vary considerably in detail from church to church and year to year, a particular entry may contain any of the following valuable information: full name and maiden name (where applicable) of the deceased, names of parents, surviving spouse, date of death, age at time of death and date of burial. Entries are alphabetized by surname and are coded with a letter or letters corresponding to a key of churches, allowing researchers to consult the original records for clarification; an "*" preceding the church code denotes an original record containing birth information for the deceased. An alphabetical listing of maiden names and corresponding married names follows the index. Hamilton County, Ohio, Church Death Records, 1811-1849 is intended to supplement the cemetery extractions published in the Hamilton County Burial Records series (also published by Heritage Books, Inc.). Although these church registers do not provide a complete record of Hamilton County deaths and burials for this time period, they can be used to fill in gaps in the official record and suggest new avenues for genealogical research. This volume is particularly valuable for family researchers whose ancestors may have passed through Hamilton County during the western migration but were not residents. The deaths of transient pioneer families are often unaccounted for in county court and cemetery records and were seldom noted in the obituaries of Cincinnati's newspapers; in some cases church registers are the only record of the deaths of these individuals.

Calvary Cemetery is located in the Cincinnati, Ohio, suburb of Evanston and covers thirteen acres. The first burial was recorded in November 1865; over 17,000 interments have since been made and the grounds remain active. This new work reprints Calvary Cemetery's burial records in their entirety, cross-referenced with readings from headstones and markers to ensure accuracy. Records are arranged alphabetically by surname and contain (wherever available): full name of the deceased, date of birth, date of death, age at time of death and date of interment, with cemetery section, lot and row numbers. Generally, these records contain little supplemental information but do occasionally note familial relations (such as father, mother, sister, or brother), military service and name changes. In addition to thousands of Cincinnati area residents, Calvary Cemetery is also the resting place of Sisters from three religious convents: the Sisters of St. Ursula Convent and Academy in Section E, the Little Sisters of the Poor in Sections S and I, and the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur, also in Section I. These women are listed together with fellow members of their order, identified by both their birth and religious names. Their surnames, as well as those of allied family members, are included in the "Additional Family Related Surname Index" which closes this volume. A map is included showing the locations of all burial grounds in Hamilton County, followed by plats for each section of Calvary Cemetery.

The fifth book of this Missouri series includes information on counties covered in the previous volumes and also new information on previously covered counties. Census records for Missouri started in 1830, but many travelers and permanent settlers were missed in the census years or only lived in the state between census years. The purpose of this collection is to help the researcher pinpoint his or her ancestors between the census years. Missouri was a gateway to the West-a key location in the nineteenth century. Both the Santa Fe Trail to the southwest and the Oregon Trail to the northwest began at Independence, Missouri. The starting point for the Pony Express, which delivered mail from there west to California, was at St. Joseph, Missouri. Settlers and new immigrants from Germany, Switzerland, Ireland, England, Poland, Bohemia and Italy flooded into Missouri when statehood was granted in 1821. Through the last half of the nineteenth century, each new Gold Rush lured more people to Missouri on their way to make their fortunes. Here, the author has collected information from newspapers, church and cemetery records, muster books, tax and assessment lists, marriage books, deed books, land owner lists, voter lists and other sources. A list of "dates to remember" covers important historical events in the U.S. from the years 1821 to 1911. The following counties are covered: Atchison, Buchannan, Butler, Caldwell, Cape Girardeau, Carter, Chariton, Grundy, Laclede, Madison, Morgan, Nodaway, Pettis, Polk, St. Louis, Stone, Sullivan, Taney and Texas. There is also a miscellaneous section which includes letters, military lists from several wars, mortality schedules, and much more information about Missourians. A surname index is included.

The "Notes" series contain genealogical data on the older generations of the families discussed in the "Visitations" series, to which they are directly keyed. The bulk of the material in these volumes consists of documents, abstracts and other supporting material. Volume 13 consists solely of pedigrees, some with illustrations of family crests. Pedigrees include: Adams; Boughley, Baronet, formerly Fletcher; Cazalet; Crisp; Dilke, Baronet; Dimsdale, Baron; Ekins; Eliot of Port Eliot, County Cornwall (Earl of St. Germans); Fetherston of Packwood; Fonnereau; French; Fripp, Viscount; Hayter; Hinchliff; Homer of Sedgley, County Stafford; Howe, Earl; Madan; Mytton; Passingham; Peckham; Pennyman; Rhodes; Rushbrooke; Thorpe of Nottingham; Vassall; Whitmore; Zouche, descent of the Barony of. This volume includes an original full-name index.

The twenty-one volumes of "Visitations" (1894-1921) together with the fourteen volumes of "Notes" (1896-1921) contain a vast wealth of English and Welsh pedigrees and supporting documentation. The "Visitations" series records the genealogical information contained in the Herald's Visitations of the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries. The pedigrees start with the grandparents of the principle person, and contain notices of all descendants of their name, covering five generations in most cases. A significant amount of genealogical and biographical information is given for each person. These volumes consist mainly of pedigrees, but there are also some wills, land records, extracts from parish registers, copies of monumental brasses, etc. In addition, the volumes contain illustrations of arms on record at the College of Arms, reproductions of autographs, seals, book-plates, portraits, etc. The "Notes" series contains genealogical data on the older generations of the families discussed in the "Visitations" series, to which they are directly keyed. The "Notes" series contains some pedigrees, but the bulk of the material in these volumes consists of documents, abstracts and other supporting material.These Visitations are not to be confused with those of earlier centuries which were often erroneous. The present works have been characterized by P. William Filby in his bibliography, American and British Genealogy & Heraldry, as having a "high standard of accuracy." Dr. Howard died after a few volumes were published, but the work was continued by Frederick Arthur Crisp. Mr. Crisp was an antiquarian and publisher who produced scores of transcripts of parish registers, genealogies, etc. in addition to the present series. The pedigrees in these two series are indexed in Whitmore's Genealogical Guide (1953). Volume 11 lists pedigrees (from various counties): Abercromby, Barlow, Cave-Browne-Cave, Clark, Coode, De Chair, De Mauley, Freeman, Goddard, Grey, Hamilton, Harrison, Hodsoll, Hunt, Jackson, Jones, Landon, Lockett, Norbury, Patchett, Phillips, Portman, Raglan, Roberts, Roddam, Shedden, Sieveking, South, Steedman, Taylor, Teague, Thursby, Welch, Wood, and Worsley.
