The book Thermal Power Plants - Advanced Applications introduces analysis of plant performance, energy efficiency, combustion, heat transfer, renewable power generation, catalytic reduction of dissolved oxygen and environmental aspects of combustion residues. This book addresses issues related to both coal fired and steam power plants. The book is suitable for both undergraduate and research higher degree students, and of course for practicing power plant engineers.

The book, while having only five chapters, covers a wide range of topics in genetic engineering of microorganisms, plants and animals. Specifically it covers both the natural and social sciences. In the natural sciences topics ranging from the genetic engineering of microorganisms to produce antibiotics, the gene targeting and transformation in plants, the generation of marker-free plants in response to biosafety concerns, as well as the generation of transgenic animals and those derived through cloning are covered. Myocarditis is a clinical syndrome, most frequently of infectious etiology, that occurs with a broad range of relatively non-specific symptoms, and consists of an inflammatory process of the heart with necrosis and degeneration of the myocardium by inflammatory infiltration of immune cells. The infection can cause direct injury of cardiomyocytes as well as immune-mediated destruction of the myocardium, leading to cardiac dysfunction. The mortality from ischemic heart disease has decreased in recent years. The better understanding of risk factors associated with development of coronary artery disease has significantly contributed to this decline. Improvements in medical and interventional therapy have reduced the complications associated with acute myocardial infarction as well as revascularization. After the introduction of imaging modalities, the noninvasive characterization of regional function, perfusion and metabolism allowed for more sophisticated tissue characterization to identify reversible dysfunction with high diagnostic and prognostic accuracy. We now can legitimately claim that computed tomography angiography (CTA) of the coronary arteries is available. In the evaluation of patients with suspected coronary artery disease, many guidelines today consider CTA an alternative to stress testing. However the nuclear technique most frequently used by cardiologists is myocardial perfusion imaging (MPI). The combination of a nuclear camera with CTA allows for the attainment of coronary anatomic, cardiac function and MPI from one piece of equipment. Assessing cardiac viability is now fairly routine with these enhancements to cardiac imaging. Traditional coronary angiography presents a variety of limitations related to image acquisition, content, interpretation, and patient safety. Barriers to such improvements include the paucity of clinical outcomes studies related to new imaging technology, the need for physician and staff member training, and the costs associated with acquiring and effectively using these advances in coronary angiography.This issue is full of important information that every cardiologist needs to now.

The level of surface water quality protection is variable around the world in large part due to the relative effectiveness of environmental regulation and the degree to which science influences the regulatory process. In the United States, at the federal level, the Total Maximum Daily Load (TMDL) has been an effective policy and water quality management tool for dealing with both point source and non-point source pollution. The TMDL provides a rational framework for estimating the assimilative capacity of the receiving water body for certain contaminants and applying factors of safety and incorporating acceptable levels of water quality criteria violation - provided the local stakeholders have a say in the decision making process.
