A noticeable feature of the contemporary novel is that it has become increasingly saturated with history and writers from the postcolonial world in particular are becoming even more deeply historically conscious. Literature representing historical events, and historiography using elements of the literary discourse have helped blur the distinctions between the two disciplines and Ghosh's work can be viewed from the perspective of 'literature as historiography'. Amitav Ghosh treads , quite adroitly, the fine line between historicizing fiction and fictionalizing history. In this thesis I have approached the novels of Amitav Ghosh from the historiographical standpoint.I have selected four historical novels for my study. The novels are : The Glass Palace , and the three novels published as Ibis Trilogy , namely Sea of Poppies , River of Smoke and Flood of Fire. The introduction covers the relevance of historical novels, Ghosh's life and works and the reception of Ghosh in India and abroad .The methodological parameters I have adhered to is mainly the New Historicist method since it has made useful contribution to the development of postcolonial discourses as well as to the study of history and literature. But my approach is broadly eclectic. I have applied the theoretical formulation of theorist who do not strictly belong to the New Historicist trend.I discuss Ghosh's novels from a thematic perspective. The second , third and fourth chapters lean somewhat more towards theory while the fifth and sixth chapters are devoted to the textual analysis of the novels. In Chapter Two, "Towards A Literary Historiography : History, Fiction , Narrative and Genre" , I build an argument that the historical novels of Ghosh can be interpreted as a form of 'literary historiography' . I set out to explore the relationship between history and literature and then relate them to the question of narrativity.Chapter Three is History as Storyworlds. The most distinctive quality of Ghosh is his storytelling ability . In creating a world for the novel the writer enters story space. Howhe builds his storyworlds and the theoretical underpinnings of this process is examined in this chapter. In History as Resistance , resistance as a strategy is viewed from the subaltern perspective. Ghosh's endeavour in recuperating the subaltern and his exploration of the subaltern consciousness forms the body of this chapter.

The main objective of this is to institute a critical and comparative study of the problem of women's status and dignity from philosophical and sociological considerations in major world religions. This problem is important from ethico-philosophical considerations from the perspective of sociology of religion. The discussion covers five major world religions, such as Hinduism, Buddhism, Judaism, Christianity and Islam. It attempts to open a chapter in philosophical foundation of sociology of religion, which consists of empirical study and philosophical evaluation. It is indeed true that the laws, norms related to the status of women irrespective of religions originated and developed in different socio-cultural and historical situations. But women's status is pictured as mostly static and marginal in the society. Without the vindication of the rights of women at par with male counter-part as human beings sociological study of religions about women's issues will fail to address the 'why-ness' aspect of the said problem. Therefore, the feminist ontology as well as ethics ought to have been explored in the second chapter of the thesis for advocating equal dignity for all human beings in society, irrespective of different religious community. It is suggested to prepare a philosophical foundation for the vindication of the rights of women and new norms for dealing with the problems related to women without contradicting the philosophical aspects of major world religions. At the beginning, we have instituted our enquiry about the roles of reason and society in making religious rites and rituals. The thesis ends with the searching for the ontology of womanhood or what is called the essence of woman. The study finds that woman is not being treated as a human being at par with male counterpart in all major world religions. She is usually treated as a means, not as an end. Her identity is socially constructed by male-chauvinistic power structure. Finally, comparing the approaches of different major world religions with regard to the ideal and the actual status of women, it is showed that women are almost always regarded as secondary or inferior to the men in the major world religions, although Buddhism gives a comparatively better picture in the context.

If language is the medium of expression of ideas ,feeling and motivation in writing, speaking and in kinesis ; and if language possesses a science of its own then ideas , feelings and emotions should be analyzed in terms of the linguistics rules and nuances . I shall be delving deep into the core of the concept of 'belonging' from this very stand point in the successive paragraphs. We consider the term 'belonging(s)' which is basically a noun and means 'the thing that somebody own which can be moved' (102 Oxford Dictionary), has its root in the term 'belong' which is a verb. As a noun 'belonging(s)' is interpreted variously in various dictionaries Collins Cobuld defines it as 'the things that you own specially things that are small enough to be carried' (96). Whereas Cambridge ALD defines the word as noun means 'the things that a person owns, especially those which can be carried. Webster dictionary defines it as verb 'to be a part of something (Webster: 83). The word indicates both mental and physical status of some body or something taking together. Random House dictionary defines the word as noun 'the quality or state of being an essential or important part of something' (Random House 76). Coming to the root word i.e. 'belong' which is verb Oxford ALD 8th suggests its origin in middle English from 'be' and archaic word 'long' therefore belong means together with. From this verb an uncountable 'belonging' word coined which is my concern and is defined as 'to feel the sense of belonging' which could be explained as to attach to somebody or something as a part of our own belonging(s).

Pharmacist reviewed the drug therapy, identified the drug related problems during ward rounds and discussed with physician and suitable suggestions was provided which had been documented. MMAS-8 and SF-36 are used in the study to find out medication adherence and quality of life respectively. During the study period 770 patients data was collected, out of which 58% were males and 42% were females. The maximum patients were in the age group of 60-70 range (50.4%).A total of 813 drug related problems were identified from 770 study subjects. The number of drug related problems was predominant in males than females. The most common drug related problems was found to be drug interactions (40.9%). Patient counseling and health care information leaflet are the most interventions in the study. Providing patient counseling, it yields a positive impact on patient compliance and their quality of life. No one can deny the fact that agriculture has an important role to play in the economy of Jammu and Kashmir. Eighty per cent population of this state lives in villages and depends on agriculture. The state cannot progress unless the economic condition of this vast majority improves and the standard of living of people gets enhanced. Agriculture itself is a vast field. It's like a tree which has endless branches. One among them is related to saffron cultivation. Saffron has several names-Zafran, Kesar, Kang, Kong Posh etc. The Kashmiri name Kong posh, the flowers of Saffron is a representation of originality and transparency. The vast stretches of saffron fields give the impression of a newly wedded bride draped in a saffron shawl taking a nap. Kashmir is known as the valley of flowers. Among several varieties of flowers grown here, saffron has its own importance and utility. Saffron (Crocus sativus L.) belongs to the large family of Iridacee and to the genre Crocus, which includes about 80 species disseminated primarily in the Mediterranean and south-western Asia. Among these, saffron, recognized as the most expensive spice in the world, certainly represents the most interesting and attractive species, for the coloring, bitterness and aromatic power of its dried stigmas. Saffron is a geophite herbaceous plant, whose stigmas have been used from ancient times as a spice in food, as a dye, in perfumes and cosmetics preparation and for medicinal purposes. Nowadays, it is almost exclusively used for food coloring and flavoring, even though recent studies are boosting interest in its medical properties. Saffron is famous only as a sophisticated species; it propagates solely vegetative by means of corms, underground stems performing as storage and reproduction structures, and does not generate seeds or exist as a spontaneous plant.

Excerpt from the book:The Tao that can be trodden is not the enduring and unchanging Tao. The name that can be named is not the enduring and unchanging name.(Conceived of as) having no name, it is the Originator of heaven and earth; (conceived of as) having a name, it is the Mother of all things.Always without desire we must be found, If its deep mystery we would sound; But if desire always within us be, Its outer fringe is all that we shall see.Under these two aspects, it is really the same; but as development takes place, it receives the different names. Together we call them the Mystery. Where the Mystery is the deepest is the gate of all that is subtle and wonderful. All in the world know the beauty of the beautiful, and in doing this they have (the idea of) what ugliness is; they all know the skill of the skilful, and in doing this they have (the idea of) what the want of skill is.
