There is a global paradigm shift in higher education such that, many nations consider cross-border higher education (CBHE) as an effective strategy for providing higher education opportunities to all irrespective of national boundaries, at a relatively low cost, and without irrationally compromising quality. Despite the nations being aware of the benefits of CBHE, there is still little evidence of significant collaborations among East African countries in this aspect. Consequently, this book analyses various issues and snags in CBHE in East Africa and their implications for sustainable higher education in the region. Besides the differences existing among East African countries, the book suggests that countries and higher education institutions, in particular, should, inter alia, promote regional synergistic approaches for the provision and regulation of cross-border higher education to gain a prerequisite momentum for global competition.

Electro-discharge machining (EDM) is a nonstandard electro-thermal machining technology used to produce geometrically complex or hard material parts that are highly challenging-to-machine by traditional machining methods. By igniting quick and repeating spark discharges between the tool and work piece separated by a narrow gap of around 0.01 to 0.50 mm, the method allows for the controlled erosion of electrically conductive materials. This void is filled with a dielectric fluid, either by flooding or immersion. The goal of this study is to evaluate the optimal process parameters of Argon gas assisted machining on P91 steel super alloy material with copper as a tool electrode and kerosene as a dielectric fluid. Experiments were carried out to determine the link between the current pulse on and off times, as well as the material removal rate and tool wear rate. EDM in gas is recent modification in machining method. In this method, EDM is performed with gas and kerosene-based oil, so that pollution reduces. The greatest advantage of EDM in gas is very low level of electrode wear rate.

This study aims to identify the state of play regarding non-pecuniary sanctions in cartel convictions by the Administrative Council for Economic Defense (¿CADE¿) in the period between 1999, when the first cartel conviction by CADE occurred, and 2022. The hypothesis to be tested is that although CADE has had legal powers to impose non-pecuniary sanctions for over 20 years, it has not yet defined clear and objective criteria for the imposition of each type of sanction, which can lead to legal uncertainty. Therefore, this study contributes to current discussions, both in Brazil and abroad, regarding the objectives of competition sanctions and ways in which to enhance enforcement against cartels. In order to identify the state of play and the criteria applied by CADE in the adoption of each type of non-pecuniary sanction, an analysis was conducted of each conviction from the perspective of to whom each sanction was applied to (companies, individuals, or associations). Based on the research results, recommendations and an analysis of prospects were made regarding non-pecuniary sanctions in Brazil, considering international experience as well.

The general objective of this study was to analyze the determinants of household graduation from PSNP. Specifically, it was focused on seeing how demographic, socio-economic, natural calamities, and institutional factors influence the graduation of households from the program.The research area was purposefully selected and examined based on the aforementioned specified objectives. The research used both primary and secondary data sources. The researcher utilized a combined technique of quantitative and qualitative data. A survey questionnaire was created, supplemented by exploratory research, reviewed by a panel of academics and experts, and pre-tested to ensure its validity and reliability. Furthermore, the study was supplemented by focus group discussions, key informant interviews, and personal observation.The data in this study was analyzed using descriptive analysis, a t-test, and a binary logistic regression model. Some of the explanatory variables have a positive and significant influence, while others have a negative and significant influence on household graduation from the Productive Safety Net Program (PSNP).

It was found that conventional fillers, i.e SCF and graphite flakes could effectively enhance both the wear resistance and load carrying capacity of base polymers. With the addition of sub-micro particles, the frictional coefficient and wear rate of the composites were further reduced especially at elevated temperatures and high loading condition.
