This is a true story about me, Carl E. Franklin; a young Black man that grew up in a small southern Texas town. In my autobiography or memoir as some would put it. Here I talk about how I and my family grew up being poor. I will tell you about my experiences with my family as we moved from place to place as migrant workers. I talk about the hardships we endured along the way. In this book I talk about the racism that I have encountered as I grew up. Not all Blacks grew up poor, but unfortunately my family was one that did. I am here to tell my story.

A HISTORY OF ORTHOPEDICS portrays the beginning of orthopedic surgery from ancient times to the current era. It follows the gradual development of a specialty from Egypt to the European continent and England and from there to the United States of America. After the discovery of anesthesia and x-rays in the 19th century, a more rapid development of surgical endeavors led to the current situation where arthroscopy could view and treat deranged joint mechanics, and painful arthritic joints could be replaced. Many of the important persons who helped reach this current state are listed with their contributions. Whereas in the 19th century orthopedic surgery was still considered part of general surgery, in the 20th century the two specialties became separated. In addition, there was a struggle between conservative practitioners (the "Strap and Buckle" doctors) and those who felt surgical intervention provided better results.

My book is about a family that moves into a castle that has creatures running around it. The author served in the U.S. Army, the U.S. Army Reserve, and the Army National Guard.After the author''s first tour of duty in the U.S. Army (Active Duty), he began his college career. He earned an Associates degree, a Bachelor''s degree, a Master''s degree, a Law degree, and has completed all requirements, except his dissertation, fora PhD.
