How do you pray in a time like this when your mind is gone so fast, you can't think? How do you pray in combat when your mind is off? When we went to South Vietnam, I could go to the front line to fight the enemy, but I couldn't ride on the front of the bus, illegal in south. Draftee were ordered to join the armed forces, most of the men were from the south and southwest. President Kennedy had asked fellow Americans, asked not what your country can do for you but asked what you can do for your country. We were all drafted by him. No one knew for certain if this was the start-up that change the prejudiced of the country. I believed that we want to serve our country and would overlook our own prejudices in order to serve. We were together all of time in training and fellowship, on and off duty. We would overcome culture and ethnic differences. The army had a timetable set to get this division in the war in Vietnam (First Cavalry Airmobile). So the training was very hard and fast. This was the first time helicopters would be used to fight in a battle. The battalion commander Col. Moore had us well train and disciplined. By the fellowship we had become brothers before going to Vietnam. After fifty years, we still get together; we meet once a year. We would need this brotherly love to fight for each other in the bigger battle of the war. In combat, you don't have time to think about what you are doing; you just do it. Your training takes over. How do you pray in a time like this when your mind is gone so fast, you can't think?

Krista is about to finish grade three and looking forward to the holiday at her grandparents’ place, when her parents tell her that this year she will be going on her own. She would get one for bravery, another for her ability to spend a day alone in the outdoors, and so on. Krista’s grandparents have prepared a further adventure for her.  They will all go together for a week-long hiking trip through the foothills and mountains and they will have a horse to carry their stuff.  Krista, who never slept in a tent, has to prepare herself for the trip.  She is thrilled with the plans for her holidays! The hiking trip is beautiful and for Krista, her “hunt” for the badges makes it unforgettable. Tears on Paper has been both a curse and blessing to write and it has taken many years. The curse comes from truly diving into the reality of foreign pain and the ensuing inability to avoid it. Melanin Man Series It was really a roller coaster and page turner. It was intriguing from the very start and well worth the read. The story's main character was particularly interesting. The Adventures of Melanin Man is truly a book showcasing a melting point of culture. I must say that at first the name seemed so farfetched and it appeared like this would be just another book but it really exceeded expectations. It indwells a new sense of pride to recognize what power lies within yourself. I particularly like a book that causes one to spend time in quiet contemplation and this is exactly what this book did to me. Alfred Porter in this book shows we can create a better world in the spirit of love and togetherness as demonstrated by the major characters in the book.

As one goes through life, adventures happen. Good, bad, or mediocre. It is what we do with them that matters. Life is more than the function of just breathing.
