Il nous conte les épreuves qui le mènent à une transformation intérieure et sa vie auprès d¿un des plus grands Maîtres de l¿Inde contemporaine, Amma (Mata Amritanandamayi). Le tome 2 reprend le récit au moment où il est venu vivre dans son ashram, en 1980, après avoir passé douze ans à Tiruvannamalai, à l¿ashram de Ramana Maharshi. Né aux États-Unis, l¿esprit analytique des Occidentaux lui est familier. Son long séjour en Inde, où il s¿est imprégné de culture spirituelle et a vécu conformément à cette grande et ancienne tradition, lui permet de présenter cet enseignement d¿une manière facilement accessible à tous. De 1990 jusqüà 2001 il dirigea le Mata Amritanandamayi Center à San Ramon en Californie. Il y a donné des cours sur l¿enseignement d¿Amma et sur les Écritures de l¿Inde ancienne.
